I like this part of the game a lot. Has a good atmosphere and you learn a lot about the world.

Dummy is an exceptionally weird and random boss.

My experience with the game so far has been similar to that of 2015. That is, I've thought of the game as "okay", but this time it has had some more interesting fights and more beautiful music. I'm thinking that it will probably unfold as a better overall experience as I go further (can't wait to do Genocide), since I also want to hear more of the game's music.

I've also thought that it has been pretty easy to advance, while at the same time realizing that I've already died multiple times, so I think the difficulty is pretty much "Just Right". I like the balance the fights have when you're facing multiple enemies as opposed to just one, so a combination of more than one is still chalenging but not broken.

Preparing the write-up for later in the day...

Upon reaching temmie town, I met Temmie, its friend Temmie, it's other friend Temmie and... you guessed it, its friend Bob (lol). I saw an egg, a sculpture (IIRC), a creepy painting of a temmie watching me, a dancing monster (I thought I was about to battle it since the music stopped, but no, it was just lonely), a painting full of rich history of temmie, and an allergic-to-humans temmie.

I entered the shop and... Oh boy, temmie has fevhufs to say. "Okay..." The turtle in the last shop told me this was the place to sell stuff, so I did just that: I opened my box and started selling things, although... Temmie REaLly wanted one of my items, but Temmie wanted to pay for coolegg, although I REFUSED!!! Then Temmie instisted but I still said NO!!! It broke my heart at first seeing its desperate reaction, but I wanted to say "no" until something happened. Well, I just wasted a good oportunity for some extra gold. Eh... I still sold many items (mostly the ones used to attack), but I'm still keeping the snowman's head to date. I also bought some temmie flakes -normal, cheap and expensive-, only to find out all of them were pretty useless and had exactly the same effect.

I wanted to "pAy for coolegg", so the next day I grinded for gold in order to pay Temmie's higher education. I fought some unbelievably (not) scary wild temmies, who wanted to destroy me while at the same time finding myself cute (??? The heck is that logic?). Flexing isn't cute for temmie, though. (Y'know, this kind of reminds me of that one episode from a cartoon of my childhood called something like Scooby-Doo the Pup or something [I only know the title in Spanish], where there were families of giant dogs having humans as pets, and fed them hamburgers.) Anyway, I thought that paying for college was going to make Temmie a super normal but educated dog that talked properly, but nooo... It just made its body go away but have its face in the air for a moment until it finally returned saying that it learned a lot, and only offered me an armor for 2000G! "You know what, I have better things to do. I'll probably return later anyway... If not, I can replay it after finishing the first mode". So I went on my way...

I continued exploring every path until I reached some Echo Flowers, and stumbled upon many writings saying that seven human souls had the power to break the barrier in which every monster is trapped because of the humans' spell. I was the seventh human, so... Yeah, this was kind of awkward. I saw Undyne once more and thought: "Am I finally entering battle with her? Nope, not yet!" The little kid monster got confused about the situation and left with Undyne, so I proceeded.

I reached a point were Undyne got to me after the kid talked to me. i didn't know if I accepted or refused to insult him, but he tripped in the middle. Meanwhile, Undyne was getting closer. "Eh... Uh... I don't want her to do the kid anything, but I also don't know if I'll have the time to see what happens"; so I reached the kid before Undyne got to me, and it all ended there.

Finaly, Undyne wanted to fight me. It was the "first" time I saw her face (y'know, in-game), so my speculation of her true appearance was confirmed. I saved there and prepared myself!

End of the recap.

Anyway, I'm here stuck with Undyne. She's pretty difficult. I can get around most of her first attacks with ease, but the yellow arrows that attack you from behind are killing me... Literally.

Ah... Finally I can do a proper write-up. I remember having 10 sessions so far, so...

Day 11 (IIRC): A Hero appears! Time to flee!
Time spent: Approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes.

So I stepped forward and entered battle. I remember having done the first part of the battle a month ago and dying once, so I tried again and, as I said before, I died a few times. 4 times more or less. I listened to the cool theme song (Spear of Justice), and man, it's good! I really liked the "turn yourself green and be en guarde" mechanic - it really tests your reflexes.

As I kept dying, I also realized how pathetically easy her first attacks are, so I kept "challenging" her on subsequent attempts just for fun. I also tried sparing her, of course. It's a pretty dynamic and balanced battle. I kept dying on the part with lots of yellow arrows that scrambled my brain every time, but I finally got past them somehow and tried sparing her until it no longer worked. I pleaded again (since at the beginnig of the battle it didn't work at all), and this time it had a slightly different effect. "Wow. This is truly an RPG!", I thought. I tried every posible thing afterwards to see if I had any luck, like challenging, pleading and sparing, but with no luck whatsoever.

...Until she told me that I could never ESCAPE from her, in red letters. I fled without realizing the clue until afterwards, but she got back to me and told me to "stop running away" from her. I went into the cave and kept running until I got an incredibly inopportune call from Papyrus: "YOU KNOW WHAT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA? IF YOU, UNDYNE AND I HUNG OUT SOMETIME!". I managed to go right until I reached a river of lava with Sans sleeping right there! Like... Right there! Undyne looked at him, I stopped to see that funny situation, and continued fleeing. Undyne finally fell when we reached a wter cooler, where I spilled some wter, then filled a cup again to give it to Undyne. (Actually, now that I think about it, she looks blue, and fish-like... Is she actually a fish-monster? Anyway...) She left and everything returned to normal. Sans left as well.

I went some more screens back and kept calling Papyrus to see what he had to say. I saved and saw a man offering me a true puzzle, which I didn't do right according to him. Meh... I returned to the later screens and saw the big red sign: "WELCOME TO HOTLAND". I saved upon reaching the lab area, talked to the guards, and went down purposefully. I saw the riverman-- er, woman, whatever. I went back to the waterfall to check the other screens before I went to Snowdin (since that's where Papyrus said he was going to be, at least if I understood correctly. I reached a Woshua placing piles of garbage in order. I entered the ghost house without anything worthwhile to do. I saved again. I went to Undyne's house and saw Papyrus standing there, waiting for our... date, I think? I declined the offer ("not yet"). Then I went to Snowdin.

Every screen without a purpose before was now occupied by this riverwo-- eh, whatever. I talked to a few monsters in town, and reached the "librarby" where I wanted to refresh my memory. "So monsters are made of magic... Interesting". I proceeded to Grillby's, but nothing worthwhile was there. I went to Sans' house and entered Papyrus' room, called him both in and out, and left.

"Where should I go now?" To Undyne's, or to the lab? I saved in the lab area, but I ended my session there, since I saw an old man or monster coming out.

Current overall time: 408:47

Apologies. This was a pretty busy weekend.

Day 12: Armed to kill, skilled to cook... NOT!
Time spent: 30 minutes.

So...

I went to Undyne's place. I took a glance at her house, and it was indeed fish-shaped --something that I previously had not noticed. I talked to Papyrus and he knocked the door. Undyne saw him: she was glad! Undyne saw me: she was petrified. "Why don't. You two. Come in?"

Okay, so we came in, and Papyrus gave her a bone (I think it's more like a bone-shaped cookie?) as a present, supposedly on my behalf. "EXCUSE ME! I HAVE TO GO TO THE BATHROOM!" "The bathroom? Now this isn't realistic... What can a monster, entirely made of bones, do in a--" *Papyrus flies out the window* ... "Uh... ehe, LOL" (I honestly don't know exactly how I reacted; I just remember I was stupefied and that this scene reminded me a lot of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. By the way, I thought Scott Pilgrim's scene was funnier, but it may be because it's not the same to watch an expertly timed stunt in a movie than watching the scene on an 8-bit-ish game. But man, it was funny nonetheless!).

"So you've come to rub your victory on my face?" I, of course, answered 'No', since that's what a pacifist little child named Lily would do. Undyne talked to me about being friends, so she let me explore her house as a guest. The same nice, comfortable melody of my date with Papyrus started playing. I explored the house, watching lots of cool stuff, such as a fish-shaped cup ("I knew it! She's a fish-like monster!"), a drawer with tiny weapons, a piano (where she told me something about a guy named Alphys), a hot fridge, and a giant sword. Upon reaching the sword, she said that humans' history rules, partially because they used to wield swords 10 times bigger than them, so she asked me if this was true; I kind of wanted to make an exception here about my general rule of "telling the truth", since I wanted to be polite and keep her illusion alive, so I said 'True'. Needless to say, she was ecstatic (well, mission accomplished!).

Then I sat down to proceed. She offered me a beverage, so she pulled out different ones. "What would you like?" Well, I stood up and BAM! "WHERE ARE YOU GOING?! Don't get up! You're the guest, SO SIT DOWN AND ENJOY YOURSELF!!!" LOL (I was a little scared for a moment. What I thought at first the moment she threw the spear at me was that this was all a trap to kill me right here, right now, so I was pretty much screwed. But no, she was just... Rad and extreme). "Um... Why don't you just point to what you want? You can use the spear." I anaized all of the options available, knowing that I could maybe have multiple ways to end the conversation, but when I saw the "blatantly obvious pick" text, I proceeded to check every option... Although I was hesitant on actually pointing out to Undyne because I thought it could mean me throwing the spear at her, or instant death, but no. "... What? Are you hitting on me?" "Hahaha! Da heck with this pun?" I finally picked the tea, and proceeded.

She sat down and talked to me about Asgore. It was a lovely story indeed. I could actually picture it: She was a lonely, unskilled girl, wanting to be powerful. This shows the "human" side of her, which is nice.

But then... "Wait. This is supposed to be Papyrus's cooking lesson! So if he's not here, you're gonna take it for him!!! She grabbed me in a disturbingly violent way until she let me go next to the kitchen. She pulled out the vegetables and asked me to hit them hard.

(Continues in next post)

[...] I think I made a mistake by choosing to hit them hard instead of wimpy, since Lily would have probably be a little nervous or hesitant by the situation, but I also wanted to be polite, so... Okay. "Something something hopes and dreams something something!" She then asked me to prepare the noodles. I proceeded to put them in forcefully as well, just to match the previous option. "Ugh, let me do it" *BAMBAMBAMBAMBAM* And then came the turning-the-stove part. Ohhh boy. I kept pressed the Right key all the time, and Undyne was still wanting it to be hotter. And hotter. And hotter! Until it all exploded.

I don't quite remember the moment I entered battle --if it was before or after the cooking lesson--, but instead of sparing her, I prepared myself doing a fake attack, which somehow managed to hurt her (okay, 1 damage, but still!), and ended battle. "Something something hopes and dreams!" Boy! The lovely song of my date, combined with the fact that this is like the third time she says "hopes and dreams" (the first time being probably the moment she first talked to me) leads me to think Undyne has something to do with that song. Anyway, she promised me to kick my butt once I got past Dreemurr and crossed the barrier, since apparently that's what friends do these days. After everything passed, we got out of there.

I saved afterwards, not being able to enter the house anymore. This... was... something. I certainly did NOT expect any of that, especially the cooking part. Everything happened so fast (even when I read really slowly) that I had to refresh my mind with YouTube, but being careful with what I see on the search suggestions or comments since everything's extremely spoilery.

That's it for now.

Day 13: Phone-calling "Did you know...?"; killer robot hosts a show.
Time spent: ~40 minutes (IIRC).

I opened the game, and the first thing I noticed was Undyne had joined the main menu, standing on top of Papyrus's head (or at least that's what it looks like...). "One more enemy befriended!"

I tried what you told me about calling Papyrus, knowing that Undyne is now with him. I did this on every screen of the central waterfall area, which means that I still have lots of screens left to cover. I'm feeling lazy about covering all of them, but otherwise it's been pretty informative and fun. Halfway through the process I thought about the screens I didn't cover with Papyrus, such as the ones from the Snowy Mountains, so I don't think I'll get the original messages he had, but going back without having transportation between areas to make the process faster just feels like a chore. My completionist self, though, is not satisfied by skipping even the smallest details. (Luckily, the game invites you to replay the game by having multiple options to answer to every question, so it compensates.)

Anyway, I went to: Undyne's, Napstablook's, the area with the tiny bird, the waterfall, the farm, the shop with the old turtle, and to all of the Hotland areas, from the puzzle dude to the lab. I learned interesting things about Undyne, which was answering almost every time instead of Papyrus. I also noticed you could call them a total of 2 times per screen, which is kind of neat. At one point, Papyrus suggested we should hang out... But we already did that. It really sounds like they are having a good time hanging out. Actually, I think they aren't really having a regular phone, but a landline phone at that. I didn't visit Snowdin, though, since I thought it could mean advancing more on the story, but man, I can almost picture it all: They're chillin' in the couch watching TV, maybe drinking soda (or whatever monsters drink these days), chatting with me in the meantime. That sounds so peaceful and relaxing, considering they're also in a peaceful and lively little town. Oh, and I learned that the technology they have is thanks to whatever drops down as garbage in the waterfall. I could understand by that why they have so much modern technology akin to the humans'. After all, we're in the year 201X, right?

I also tried the yellow snail mini-game three more times. It didn't work at all, so the third time I pressed Z as fast as I could from the start just for the lulz of watching it burn in flames, and thinking it could maybe give a different effect if I kept doing it before the other snails reached the goal.

But no.

So I went to the lab. There was some weird interference in the phone calls, so I just went on my way. I saw a big screen and and old, dorky dude-- wait... What? Are you serious? Are you telling me it's a "she"? Anyway, his-- er... her name was Alphys. (Yay, now we know who Alphys is!) she explained me about her fixation towards me and that she had been observing me all this time via a monitor a la Dragon Ball Z's Cell, and that she had been rooting for me all this time. But... She created a killing machine, which didn't arrive late at all to the party. Like, almost a literal party. I was invited to answer every question... or die. "Oh boy."

I entered battle. The music wasn't that good, but I think it fit well if this was an NES game. Just by that standard is it good. I checked its stats and wow, it had a lot of defense, logically. I was alternating between 'Crying' and sparing, to no effect. "Darn it, I don't have many healing items..." I answered its questions, noticing the time flying off, so I hurried. "What are monsters made off?" "Oh! Oh! I know that one!" I selected magic, since that's what I read back on the library, though I couldn't help but notice "Hopes&Dreams" once more. [...]

[...] I kept answering while also being tempted to answer incorrectly to see what happened. Didn't have to worry about that, though, since I soon faced hard ones. The name of the King was Asgore Dreemurr (I knew that one); one question said "Heck Yeah" four times, but I was able to pick the right one: the one on the bottom left co-- (wait, maybe every answer was valid. Hmm...). I stumbled upon an overly complicated math question, in which I just waited for the time to be over (I had to eat something to replenish health). I did that with the next one as well, the one in which I had to guess how many letters had certain worddddddd (I later noticed my damage decreased by half each time, but I don't know what would've happened if I reached 2 HP). Finally, I had to answer who does Alphys has a crush on, and I correctly answered "No idea" (although I was tempted to answer "The human").

Okay, so my life was spared and I kept exploring the lab with the lights on. Alphys upgraded my phone while also acting really nervous and went to the bathroom. I saw some human "history" books as well as some inventions. The only things that really caught my attention were a poster of an anime girl with cat ears, and a figurine of said girl in the bottom floor.

I tried going right, but the road continued, and I wasn't feeling like it yet (gosh, the music tone is so ominous right there!). I went back and saved on central Hotland.

Total time: 471:50

aww man, you missed the best answer to the crush question

Ftr, for the impossible-seeming questions like the math one, the trick is that Alphys is signaling the correct answer to you in the background!

I mean, the hints to it being Undyne are pretty subtle.

"Would you smooch a robot?"
>HECK YEAH
>HECK YEAH
>HECK YEAH
>HECK YEAH

Also, funny that the math is actually legit.

Day 14: Chit-chatting all the way; a forgotten hidden treasure found; hot puzzles; "mommy, please don't let them cook me!"
Time spent: 2 hours.

It's pretty nice watching the Language Select menu being covered by a shower of dry leaves. I saw them before, but I didn't mention it. What I did realize this time around was that when you start a new game, the musicalization is pretty simplistic, but as you progress, it becomes more well-crafted. Neat.

The first hour or so of playtime was consumed by my need to check every single screen --from the door to the Ruins, all the way to Hotland-- on my phone. It was a tedious task, but I had to do it. Every screen before Snowdin Town was answered by Papyrus, so at least I rested knowing that I didn't miss anything after meeting Undyne. I noticed a couple of what seemed to be small typos, like seeing ".." at the end of a sentence said by Papyrus, and maybe other ones I don't remember. Oh, I remember one of them appearing to be a typo but was not: "Pupularity" (Was that it? I think so...) I checked Sans's crossword this time, and saw at least one word (that I also don't remember) that wasn't written to be found. There seemed to be another one: "Snot...? Oh, it's 'skeletons' backwards. lol" I noticed there weren't any enemies this time, just regular "teens" and other monsters to whom I could talk peacefully. I played with the snowball trying to get a good score, but it wasn't that worth it. I finally reached the door to the Ruins, closed as before. (You know, knowing that I can never, ever come back to Toriel, leaving her behind without being able to look back... It feels so nostalgic. It feels like I've left something really precious. At least I hope I can come back in one way or another, or watching Toriel later in the game.) I returned to Snowdin, but I forgot that I hadn't checked one screen: the one with the reel on the water! "Darn it..." Well, I went back, hoping that Papyrus told me something useful about that note... But no.

Anyway, I went to Snowdin's "Snowed Inn", sleeping in there, but for the life of me, I can't understand WHEN or HOW do I have to go there to "go over my mximum HP"... Or so I thought. I talked again to the bunny monster in the shop to see if she had anything else to say this time around, but no, so at least I refreshed my memory; although, she did mention the monsters lived in the Ruins, but that the door was sealed a long time ago. Is she actually talking about the door I passed through, or the door I still have to open in the Snowy Mountains?

Well, I kept walking, went through the waterfall area, and reached Onion-san. Onion told me about their band: The "Red Hot Chibi Peppers" (since this is a family-friendly game, and Toby Fox has carefully planned the game to be cute but epic, I thought that, as awesome as the RHCP are, it's kind of weird he chose a band that literally has a song named after, and based around, a Spanish curse word). Later I realized that every screen you've passed through after the Ruins is also passable a second time... or at least up to the point where you get pushed by the kid monster up a platform when you put down your umbrella. Speaking of which, I passed the piano room from before, not knowing how to solve the puzzle. Turns out, I didn't actually put the umbrela on the statue the last time, so maybe my mind tricked me when I looked at a video for reference of what I had done up to that point. This was evident as I could no longer take away the umbrella, and that there were notes up in the air. The text box said that "only the first 8 matter", so I went ahead, memorized the notes, and played them over on the piano. Boom! A secret door opened. I went through it, and I found a rare, red gem; but I couldn't take it since apparently "I had too many dogs with me". "What?..." *checks inventory* [...]

[...] "What's this? When did I pick up a dog? Well, I might as well use it..." *doggie steals the gem* "FUUUUUUUUU!!!"Now my inventory was full of dog's... uselessness. Maybe droppings. Poo, or whatever. I tried to use them, but nothing happened.

....

"FUUUUUUUUU!--"

Was that the same dog that stole something on Papyrus's fridge. Darn burglars... (Now I know why you guys were intrigued by my actions passing through this area.)

Well, I went to the old turtle's shop, trying to sell, although it still wasn't possible. So I went to Temmie Village and learned some useful information that I didn't check before, and it was interesting. The armor now osts 900G less than last time. Hmm... Well, I sold the dog's... uselessness, and went on my way.

Finally, I reached Hotland. Alphys kept interrupting my progress by updating her Faceb-- ehem, "social network" status. Alphys looks and sounds like your typical introvert nerd, but not only is she an adult monster, she's a "she". And not only that, it seems to have a crush on a girly-looking, gender neutral child. This is messed up in so many levels. I've also noticed that when any monster talks about someone that isn't a "he", "she" or "it", they talk about said subject as "they". I don't know if that's actually grammarly correct in English, but to me it sounds a little weird. It's odd and maybe a little unnecesary at times, but hey, if it works, it works.

I kept thinking: "Man, this music is so (ironically) cool!" I went through multiple puzzles, some of them involving lasers (which were also cool to avoid). I fought an airplane-like monster, where I realized I had 30 out of 20HP... So... Was "sleeping" at the Inn actually useful? Well, I got through some steam machines, and a lot of the puzzles were really easy with Alphys guidance... which was also kind of annoying. I got a frying pan and continued solving the puzzles to open a door. When I went to the left, I solved a seemingly more complicated puzzle without even knowing how. I just made a couple of movements, fired, and got it first try.

Okay, so I went through the door up to a very dark room, and with no response from Papyrus or Undyne on the phone. "Okay, what's next? A boss?" Alphys turned on the lights and "WELCOME TO THE COOKING SHOW!" "Oh my..." I inspected everything before going for the sugar, eggs and milk; then I grabbed those things and put them on the table. "NOW, THE LAST INGREDIENT IS... A HUMAN SOUL!" *freaking monster grabs a freaking chainsaw* I was genuinely a little scared when Metatton got near me. "Easy, Toby Fox! I thought you were less sadistic!" Well, Metatton made me reach another ingredient once Alphys intervened, so I went ahead and used my jetpack, trying to purposefully crash against the objects the robot threw at me just to see what happened if I lost, but it turned out to be the same since the time stopped when I stopped, and advanced when I advanced, all of it carefully planned.

Well, I finally saved afterwards and ended my session.

Two things:
TEMMIE armor decreases its cost whenever you die, iirc.

And the dog stuff can be used as an infinite money trick due to replication(and heals due to the occasional dog salad), but both are optional.

Yea, that's what I thought, too, at the time.

Okay, so I've checked every spoiler tag on this topic and I'm pretty glad I knew most of these things. I'm not really sure if I made a mistake by letting doggie steal the gem, but I'm also certain this won't be the last time I see it.

I'm not sure I'll be able to play today, since I've got some commitments, but I'll do what I can.

Oh, btw, could somebody explain to me what "tsundere" and "yandere" mean?

Don't worry it isn't, there's literally nothing else you can do.

The whole thing is just for a joke (though the item is deceptively useful)

Basically, tsundere is someone that is in love with someone but doesn't want to admit they are (so they often act like they don't like the person because of embarrassment) whereas yandere is someone that likes someone so much that they turn murderous to people that also show love (even perceived love) to that person.

Well, not necessarily murderous...but at least very possessive of the love in question.

I was a tsundere my whole childhood!

Well, kind of... I started to get intimidated by just being around my crushes as Elementary School passed on.

It's less 'too shy to admit it' and more 'denies it/treats them like they don't like them but actually does'

Undyne is actually a pretty good example of a tsundere toward Papyrus (though of the friend variety and not lovers). Dumps on him all the time, but actually cares about him a lot, especially when he's not around.

Probably the most stereotypical tsundere line is after they help out the one they're tsundere towards/give them a gift/something like that, they say something to the effect of (lets say they give them cookies as a present) "Don't get me wrong, I didn't do it for your sake or anything! I just made too many and didn't want them to go to waste!"
