Anyway, I was in 7th grade. We were at a Safety Patrol meeting. Then they had us go back to class.

It was between classes and two girls who got to school late ran up and told me. I remember a teacher who was in tears because she couldn't reach her husband that was a pilot. We basically shut down regular classes and had tvs on in a few classes and the library. It was very surreal.

I was in my first year of high school. Walked in the building and everyone was talking about it. One of the towers had already collapsed. Thought people were joking until I saw the footage. It didn't seem real or make sense.

All day there were televisions in classrooms to follow the news. Then I got sick and was at home watching the news for a few days. I was in close proximity to an international airport and the air traffic silence for days was eerie.

It was my day to help the manager open the bank and one of the first things we did was turn on the t.v.s in the lobby. The news was on the t.v.s and we saw it live when the second plane hit.

Weird... I was also a college freshman in 2nd period Spanish class. Didn't learn about it till class was over then. Then 4 or 5th period global studies class we went and watched the news

I was in kindergarten. No memories of the actual day, but I remember a few days later seeing a tower in my town and thinking wow they built that back up pretty quickly

17 years ago, I drove to work at Smith&Nephew in La Jolla, CA. My shift started at 6 am. The first plane hit just as I parked my car.

Was getting ready for classes at college, got a call from my friend that classes were canceled and to check the news. Tuned in just in time to see the first building collapse.

I don't really remember but my grandfather was in New York at the time so we were trying to get a hold of him most of the day (he was fine). He didn't have a cellphone so we kept trying to call around to hotels he may have stayed at, and finally we found the number for the local office of his company and he was there.

5th grade lunch time, then Next year we had the DC sniper. What a time to be alive.

I was sick and wondered why my dad wasn't at work, he told me a plane crashed into the pentagon.
(he didn't work at the pentagon, he worked like 10 minutes from there.)

I was still sleeping in because I was in that stay up all night, play video games, and masturbate to internet porn phase. My dad woke me up later in the day because my best friend was calling me from college (my first year of college didn't start until October of that year). I was the first person he called. Not his parents or anything. His college called off classes until they figured out what was going on. Thought it was a dream since I was half awake.

Sophomore year of college. Didnt have any morning classes, so I was asleep. Got woken up from a phone call from my mom yelling Were under attack! Ran to the TV expecting to see some shit with China (a US spy plane had recently been captured by China and was causing headlines), only to instead see the first tower on fire. I was watching the news when the 2nd plane hit.

All of my classes were cancelled that day except for one. The professor wanted us to come in and talk about it. I seriously didnt wanna be at that class, I wanted to be back in front of my TV.

Was getting ready to cuddle with an ex and go to sleep (it was about 10:45pm in Australias east coast) then breaking news took over the late night news.

A tower in New York was smoking, no one knew if it were an accident or what.

Then it all changed when the second tower got hit. The scheduled programming was scrapped and the CNN feed took over.

Woke the next morning and got caught up with everything else that happened

I saw it before I heard - I could see the smoke rising from the buildings rising on the horizon, and I was like, "What's that? Must be some sort of fire over there." Then after hearing what was actually going on, I spent a lot of the rest of the day like everyone else, trying to call into the city to see if the people I knew there were okay.

I was getting most of the news over the radio while at work that day. I didn't really get to see any of the images until later that night.

I was in 10th grade. I don't recall what was going on in first period, but I didn't know anything about it until I walked into the gym for second period and people were talking about whether it was some kind of conspiracy. We watched TV the whole class and more or less got up to speed.

My English teacher's son worked at the Pentagon, and by English class she was already gone to check up on him. Turned out he didn't survive.

Then somehow rumors got twisted around and there was talk of a gas shortage in my town. Which led to everyone lining up at gas stations.. which almost led to a gas shortage.

Not really. They let classes out early, didn't know why. Then went to work where we didn't have online service at the time. Plus I don't watch the news so I don't recall who mentioned it first.

I know it sucks and all but is this really the kind of thing we want to mark as a holiday?

It sounds insensitive to say it today, but one day in the future, people are eventually going to treat 9/11 as just as much a day to get off work as both aforementioned preludes to massacre.

It was a regular day for me. Went to school. Homeroom teacher told us there isnt anything we can do and to focus on school. That was that. Its weird seeing people talk about how school was cancelled or that they didnt do anything in school. Well I can understand school being cancelled if you lived in NY.

Considering the two I mentioned previously, it wouldn't be the first time such a day would eventually be treated as a holiday.

After all, it took 300 years after Columbus' landing to finally make it a holiday.
