I've been watching the entire show on Hulu. Up to season 16!

There is a noticeable dropoff in quality after the 200-201 nonsense, which isn't even on Hulu. Had to watch those uncensored online.

Yeah Matt and Trey were really upset about that. And both of those episodes are perma-banned everywhere except DVD (and 201 is censored on the DVD; you can only find the uncensored one on, well, you know).

Same goes with Season 5's Super Best Friends. A DVD-exclusive at this point.

I think it's likely. The titles of episodes at the end of S20 were suggesting they were done serializing South Park, but then S21 was serialized.

I love their attempts at serializing their seasons lately, though S20 ended up being a train wreck in that second half...but even in their best recent seasons, I get why it's a bit divisive.

Yeah I looked up Super Best Friends, too.

Muhammad wasn't even used in an offensive way in any of those three episodes. He comes off looking awesome. Osama Bin Laden as a Looney Tunes character or asking Al-Qaida to suicide bomb New Jersey is way worse than "Muhammad has power over fire, helped build a giant stone John Wilkes Booth, and his followers are crazy people who threaten to kill anyone that draws him". Hell, the Family Guy 'retaliation' was a more offensive way of making fun of Muslims.

The issue isn't whether the portrayal of Muhammad is offensive, or whether Muslims are being made fun of, it's that Islam actually forbids the physical depiction of Muhammad.

Not saying I agree with CC's decision, but I'm saying that that was why there was outrage, not because they were simply meaning mean to any one person or group of people.

We dont know but i expect to keep the ongoing plots at a more season 18 or 21 level where it doesn't really affect the a plot as much and leaves room for a few standalone stories. In a way this new episode might even be a sort of continuation of the whole cartman/heidi breakup plot twist from last seasons finale, since breakups has been known to drive people to murder(and i think the parkland shooter was recently dumped by his ex gf shortly before the tragic event) and i can see cartman doing something insane like this.

Cartman was honestly so bad in S21 I wouldnt have minded if they killed him off. Like he was just not funny at all and an unfunny Cartman is just a bad character

I don't agree that S21 Cartman was bad as a viewer, but I will agree that Cartman without humor is a chore to deal with.

Cartman even around S13-14 Cartman was really starting to wear on me. Actually, by the time I stopped watching, none of the four boys were in my top 5 characters (MAYBE one would have squeaked in if I excluded the long-deceased Chef who I just could never forget).

I like a couple of the kids quite a bit. Butters and Kenny really shined the last couple seasons so it was really sad to see Kenny almost completely absent from the latest season. Ike is usually always amusing too. Its hard to top the best adults though. I mean Randy is just so good and Ive always loved Garrisons antics.

By the time I stopped watching, Randy, Mr. Garrison, Ike and Butters were my favorite characters still on the show.

I am so glad Garrison is involved in South Park again, and him becoming President is both a great representation of his own character and an interesting representation of real-life events too.

Not sure anything ever beats his evolution-lesson and Christmas caroling though.

I like the parts with KKK Mr. Hat and the part where Mr. Hat beats up Mackey. The episodes where he gets his sex change, the eggs, the 300 parody and the one where he wants his penis back are good stuff too. The best part about Garrison is how often they mix it up with him and manage to still keep him hilarious.

I really need to watch season 21. I thought season 19 was pretty great and 20 amazing. Really thought the serialized approach freshened things up, though I certainly don't want them to drag it on. But there absolutely was a horrible dip in quality...I want to say around seasons 15 and 16? Probably not too long after episode 200, and 16 might have even been the worst from what I remember. But seasons 18 and onward were all great -- just need to catch up on the most recent before now!

S17 is where I draw the line for their worst modern season, but yeah, they were dwindling until they found their fresh sense of life with serialization.

I stopped watching with the member berries season. That was terribly unfunny.

I liked 19-20, but didnt like 21 so it might not be for everybody. Really so much of the season is dependent on if you can tolerate and unfunny Cartman

Since the Black Friday triology though I've enjoyed all of it outside of season 20.

Siding with malyg, though Black Friday ran too long and should have just been a two-parter.

This is still mostly correct, but after looking upon the episode list, I think I actually meant 16 and 17. Or maybe I'm just overstating season 15's quality because of standouts like A History Channel Thanksgiving. Even season 16 has the same random hits among a sea of mostly misses, like Insecurity and Obama Wins. I remember loving all of these more than You're Getting Old, but otherwise, malyg basically nailed it.

I also didn't find the Black Friday trilogy all that great and think it's highly overrated. But it's decent enough, and it is the exact point when the show started regaining traction.

Looking at the early season 15 episodes, which was the last time I watched the show regularly, I don't even remember some of them. Humancentipad and Royal Pudding were fantastic, and You're Getting Old was very good at what it did even if it wasnt a laugh fest. Funnybot was a big time low for me though. A bottom 10 episode IMO. The others I dont remember too much about. I dont even remember Crack Baby Athletic Association at all.

I thought the show turned to garbage around season 10 honestly. I remembered the Hybrid Smug episode in particular being the breaking point for me where it was like "okay is this show about being funny first or is it about trying to get up on a soap box and doing some random social commentary of the week." Don't think I stuck with it much longer than that. It's possible it had some random revivals of actual humor in the meantime but yeah that's how I felt about it.

You guys ever rewatch early seasons and wonder what happened to some of the background characters? There are some they had for a while and never really did anything with like literally Dog Poo aka that kid who is always super dirty looking. I know with Pip at least they killed him off, but others have existed for a very long time and never really had any sort of role at all

I like the Hobbit as well.

I think all of you complaining about the decline in quality need to realize that Matt & Trey started putting all of their creative/comedic energy into Book of Mormon and the video games.

I would be happier if they dropped the series altogether to focus purely on their other endeavors, but the show basically funds all of these other platforms.

Well going around with huhuh thats gay is a bad character in 2018.

You are right overall though. I was bummed out when a kid went to the nurse and it was no longer Nurse Gollum.

I kinda miss Kitty. Does Cartman still have him?

Also, 5 is the best season, by far. I'm also a big fan of 13, but I know that one is pretty polarizing.

I feel the exact opposite of this. They're far from my favorites, but I feel like the early seasons aged the best and will likely always be the most timeless. This is just in their nature, however, as it's before the show went the whole "commentary and lampooning of contemporary issues" route. Sometimes I miss the old style, but I enjoy them both.
