No it is not. Xenogears suck shit and it's not solely because of disc 2 either. The plot was complete shit. It was at a time where Square thought having a super confusing deep plot = good plot. They tried it with Chrono Cross too and that shit is straight up shit. Also the deathblow mechanic is some inconsistent horseshit with no real consistent way to level it up or being learned.

Not enough human dungeons and battles IMO which made leveling up pointless since the major fights were in Gears which was mainly equipment heavy instead of actual levels.

Nah; People figured that out long ago. Each deathblow requires a certain amount of a specific attack animation to learn it/progress towards it.

unlocking triangle, square, X might require 50 of the third triangle animation, 50 of the second square animation, and 50 of the X animation.

You gotta remember that if you spammed triangle (for fei anyways) he had... 4 animations he cycled through, and square had 2, and X had one. Pretty simple to keep a running tally in your head.

Same here, after I finish FFVIII I'm starting Xenogears.

Let's not forget that human fighting/leveling up as a human is fucking meaningless. I think there's like 2 good human dungeons and that's it. Everything else is robot fighting and they are based on equipment, not level ups.

There wasn't much confusing about the plot. The history of the characters and their motives maybe a little bit. But you still knew who the good and the bad guys were in each situation. Either way, the character styles and behavior and dialogue is still among the best we've ever seen in a video game.

Naw the plot isn't confusing. They were trying to make it a clusterfuck because Square thought clusterfuck = deep meaningful plot. They tried it with Chrono Cross too.

Also, the gears would get more powerful the more powerful your character got (in certain ways). Later on, you'd have to get creative in your strategy for gear battles, too. What equipment to use, when to refuel, when to charge up power. Etc.

No you fucking don't LMAO. This game is a fucking cake walk with the Gears. Get gold, equip the best equipment you can, roll through dungeon and boss fight with ease.

I disagree entirely. It's one of my favorite games of all time, a rare blind buy that ended up paying off. Better than most of the Final Fantasies

Bosses were all super easy if you had the best Engine for your gears at the time (cause engines were power) and the best frame for max HP. Then you get the deathblow modules that unlock the X deathblows for your gears because they do stupid amounts of damage at very minor fuel cost.

unlock Infinity mode later and abuse that and bob's your uncle

The difference is final Fantasy 15 actually got completed while Xenogears never will. That said the incomplete xenogears is still much better then the completed FFXV.

Well maybe you should have fucking told Square not to start development on FFVIII when Xenogears is already halfway done. FFVIII was the game they didn't have the funds for.

Except FF8 is better than Xenogears. I actually like both games but Xenogears, even despite the second disc being unfinished, has many faults with it's gameplay. The leveling aspect already mentioned being a big part of that.

And yeah FF8 has it's faults too. At least levels and junctions have meaning whereas in xenogears, you buy the next piece of equipment and the fights become steamrolls. And if you don't buy them, you get steamrolled.
