Well, if somebody was unemployed for over ten years, they really would have to be trying >_>

I sincerely dont know how people go that long without working. I went seven months recently. The first 3 were okay since I was travelling and visiting friends. The last 4 I spent waiting to get cleared for my new job made me want to lose my mind.

It's rather fun waiting for return calls/emails from employers after providing your resume and CV, following up, and still not even getting a "no", like you live off of the morning dew or something. The problem with having a STEM degree is people think that there are "better jobs" you're going to flee to at first opportunity.

I don't really care if they don't get back when I haven't even interviewed. I mean, I'm the one who submitted a resume, and it's not like they really have a lot of control over how many they get, so why should they have to deal with all of them? Granted, it's usually an automated email that probably takes one click anyway, but at this point I'd rather not hear anything. It just sets me up for disappointment any time I get a new email and find out that is what it is.

If they interviewed, though, they should get back. They decided they had some interest, now they've taken part in the process as well. The least they could do is commit to closing the loop instead of leaving you hanging.

Also I have no idea what "live off of the morning dew" is supposed to mean.

Come to Wisconsin. Local retail can be as high as 14 an hour starting and I was just looking at a 3 bedroom house on an acre of land for 39,900. I mean it is 10 minutes from town, but still not a bad price.

Lol not good enough to get hired, not memorable enough to remember if they've interviewed you.

To be fair he didn't say whether or not they interviewed him. I've had companies do a similar thing to what he described, assuming he means there was no interview. Not a good look either way, but if they actually did have an interview too, then that place is pretty wack.

Meaning you didn't even get an interview?

Correct. Typical procedure now is:
1: Review application.
a: If CV is attached, applicant is over-educated, and will engage in disputes with management, or will risk the employment of all superiors, if the applicant does not immediately jump to the next job hiring at a more attractive pay rate. Round file application. Else, continue.

2: Check applicant's social networking profiles.
a: If not present, round file application.
b: If present, determine if applicant is an alt-right nazi bigot (follows or likes Republican politicians/officeholders)
b1: If so, round file application, else continue.
c: If profiles are not sufficiently tenured, roundfile, else continue.

3: If access to NICS is available, determine the ethnicity and other labels of the applicant. The more boxes we can check, the better, but if unavailable, contact applicant for face to face review. Be certain to confirm pronouns and such; we can't afford to upset Kris in corporate HR again.

Apply for every position at every local grocery store every two weeks. Eventually they will pick you. If you don't get picked after the interview keep doing it. They won't remember you.

I never had any luck with any other local places. One bar actually pulled out a stack of resumes they had to go through to show me. I made the mistake of bothering with that for 3 years. Admittedly, I did get burnt out and lazy near the end and ended up applying at one place in a month.

Apply to big places and apply to every position.

Spoilers: My job is shit and yours will be too.

Oh, and for the record, having an Electronic Engineering degree was a major red flag even before the last job I worked, which I have been informed is its own kind of resume poison; as in companies will put your application on the bottom of the stack if you worked for a certain set of companies, even if it was for a decade.

Wait, are you attaching both a resume and a CV? Uh, isn't that supposed to be kind of one or the other? I don't even think most people know the difference between the two... HR people maybe, but probably not everyone involved in their hiring process.

It honestly sounds like you're just making excuses for your own failures, this stuff all sounds like wild conjecture. I doubt you have any proof that an employer called you an "alt-right Nazi bigot" or wanted to hire somebody more diverse. Also if you're really worried about your social media profile then maybe don't follow those people? Or make it more private? Or change your last name on it so they can't find you? Or use an alternate account? There are so many more options than just pouting and acting like you're being persecuted.

Hello fellow cheese head. Yes much of wisconsin currently has a labor shortage and property values are very reasonable.

Collectively my unemployment stint has probably been more than that but it's been several years since my last job so 3 months is nothing. Still any form of unemployment sucks.
