Got it way back when it came out, didn't play it very much and kinda forgot about it. Recently picked it back up, and I'm really enjoying it. Currently about halfway through Chapter 6 and it feels like I'm nearing the end. Airy is being very suspicious and I don't like her. I also have Bravely Second sitting here, and I'm actually pretty excited to get to it.

I'm aware of how people don't like the second half, but iirc you can speed through it pretty quickly so it's not too much unbearable. I never even got around to finishing chapter 4 yet.

The games themselves (the mechanics) are pretty good.

It would have been an instant classic if it was done in 2d instead of the crappy 3D, though.

I don't know. The graphic style doesn't detract from the fact that it repeats certain things 2 more times then it really needed to before people started asking "ok, we are doing something wrong here, what is the real issue?".

The game would have been awesome with just 2 fewer repetitions, really.

I really liked the first one up until about halfway through when it forced you to replay the whole game 5 or 6 times in a row. I haven't played the second, but I'd still like to someday. The gameplay/battle system is a lot of fun.

They keep beating me over the head wtih "Airy is lying to you!" Even the title screen says "Airy Lies". They're doing this so much to the point I'm thinking this is a red herring. Ah, who am I kidding, Squeenix isn't that clever.

is there a point to, or rewards from, the boss rush? Or is it just a big end game challenge? I can't survive like 1 turn at the Qada/Ominus/Mephilia/Yulyana fight. >_>

Been through the final pillar of light and fought Airy. Yes, this game has serious narrative issues. Multiple characters knew about Airy, and only 1 explained it, and very very poorly at that. At no point did anyone really warn you and say "airy is satan's foot soldier, ignore what she says"

Oh wow... you actually finished that turd? The game started out SOOOO strong. And then you are told to do it over again... and again... and again. I made it a couple hours into the "second" playthrough before I looked up a guide to see where it was going. Thank goodness I did because that game was nowhere near good enough to play through four times.

It's become the devs MO at this point. They only have enough content for a 10 hour game, but JRPGs are supposed to be long so they just make you do the same shit over and over.

That isn't the issue.

The repetitions can be knocked out MUCH faster than the first time through. You will spend most of the repetitions in the first one (where you may be checking out the new monsters and grinding a bit) and the last one (where you want to take care of stuff before finishing the game).

All the repetitions other than the first and last are pretty much pointless. But they ALSO don't take much time.

Yeah most of the repetitions felt completely pointless. Like 80% of the second half of the game is completely optional fluff.

I still enjoyed it well enough, mostly because the battle system was pretty fun.

Anyway, beat the first game, played Second for about an hour so far.

Uhhh.... I don't think so? I woke every crystal, and went to the Chasm and killed Ouroboros. Unless the second ending you're referring to is the secret gyroscope movie, which I did see.

There is also the ending where you rebel against Airy by having Agnes continue to channel energy into the crystal until it explodes (you don't have to stop doing it because Airy tells you to), which causes Airy to try and kill you right then and there. This is technically the false ending because you foil Airy's plans and never let Ouroboros escape, however, it's also an interesting (and still good) ending because your party stops being so naive and actually makes a decision for themselves.

I don't think I'm liking Bravely Second as much. Idk, maybe it picks up once I get more Jobs. The writing actually got worse, imo. Every character has some weird quirk(s) that were kind of there in the first game, but weren't nearly as annoying.

Also why do the voice lines sound terrible?

Also, I got Red Mage but it says I can't get Thief. Please tell me I don't have to wait until NG+ to get Thief.

Saying whether or not there's a NG+ sorta ties into the way the game progresses so it's kinda spoilers? Maybe?

Rest assured that you can get all jobs in a single play through, but it will be a while before you can access the jobs you didn't pick before.

You can get both jobs/classes in a single playthrough, without anything like NG+. You have to choose between which one you get first for a number of the jobs/classes, and the other one then becomes unavailable for a little while until you then get the opportunity to get it later.

I heard this much going in, so naturally I went thief first for completionistic purposes (i.e. just in case some enemy between the first chance and second chance for thief happened to have some unique steal or something. That said, I never did look into whether or not that was the case so its quite possible that it just got me a bunch of potions and some equipment that had alternate acquisition options).

Well, unless you are a nutcase completionist, even if there were such a unique item, it would be extremely outclassed by something you can get later anyway so its fine.
