I think Im going to not have a place to live for about a week.

Luckily I should be able to stash enough clothes, but otherwise I dont have much supplies. Any tips on where to sleep/eat/shower?

Oh also Ill have deodorant and a toothbrush.

if you can get a weeklong trial membership at a gym itll do you some good.

dont count on sleeping there, but you can shower and change and shit at least

as far as food goes, are you actually broke homeless, or just in between living situations homeless? because there are resturants.

I have access to my schools rec center. Not sure if there are showers there, but worth a look. Im not super broke, but I dont have tons of money either. Honestly if I eat one meal a day, I should be able to get by just going to restaurants.

Im thinking I might stay at the library until it closed (2am), and then figure out what to do from there. I dont have transportation, so staying somewhere not close to campus isnt a great idea for me.

If you have another place lined up, does it really count as being homeless?

You can't just check into a hotel/motel or stay with a friend?

Otherwise, you can just buy a tent and stay at a campground for a week.

Yeah, but he might be worried that they're going to rape him while he sleeps or something. (ie, not that it's uncomfortable to ask, but that he feels uncomfortable being there.)

Wasn't there a poster a year or two back that made a post that they might be homeless for a few months and then never came back?

I agree with the gym idea. Get yourself a lock or two and you can even store a decent amount of stuff in a locker.

If you have a tent, camping can be a cheap way to spend a night.

seriously though melo, your schools rec center or a gym membership will do a lot of good to keeping you clean and healthy while you are in between living situations.

as for food, maybe check for a nearby food bank.
check and see if any local community centers are doing a free dinner night (easier to find this sort of thing if you are near downtown or another place where the homeless congregate.
keep in mind that bread is cheap, and while not extraordinarily healthy as a primary portion of your diet it is better than malnourishment

its fucking rough on the streets man, but you will come back to your normal life with a newfound appreciation for shit youve taken for granted.

You could also ask a church, if there are any near. Some actually do try to help people. Obviously, like everyone is saying, you school's Rec center or a gym would be a good place to clean up and maybe store stuff in a locker. Just always check to make sure you can keep stuff locked up for more than a specific amount of time. If you can find a place with a microwave, you can get some cheap microwave dinners or something.

I would still try to find a friend who would let you stay over. Even if you just buy a tent and sleep in the backyard. It would help us to help you if we actually understood what was going on, but I understand if you don't want to talk about it. Best of luck.

Also, if you can fit everything you have into a locker, you could always get on a bus and sit in the back and take a nap. People do that on the bus at the place I work for. Plus, the bus drivers normally keeps the bus a good temperature. It's get you out of the weather and keeps you cool(or warm in the winter).

Also, if you know someone who can get you onto a military base, that could help. The hotels on base are usually super cheap, IIRC... Though, that wouldn't help if the base wasn't close enough to your campus...

just having a space that you can call yours is huge
having your own toilet
having a place to sleep that actually feels moderately secure and comfortable
having a place to keep your shit so you dont feel like you constantly need to keep track of your every posession

I was homeless from 16 to 17 when I joined the AF (lived on rooftops). I have plenty of tips. Now that I'm old, I may give it a shot again, only this time with a car (which I would sleep in), just so I can travel around (without spending a ton of money on hotels etc). I can always rent a room anywhere I am quickly if I feel the need to have a roof for some reason.

So yeah, as has been mentioned a fitness center will give you TV you can watch (usually coffee/tea etc you can drink as well), along with showers (some have pools hot tubs as well). For $10 you can do planet fitness though, and it actually has free all you can eat pizza on the first (monday I think) and ....donuts? on the first tuesday (my friend was telling me about it), so if you make it to them, it covers the $10 in food.

As adults cars are actually pretty good places to live and WAY cheaper (even then renting a room). Renting a room can only be $400 or so a month in most places though, and gives you power for video games/tv/internet etc....so at $13 a day, it's pretty worth it in my opinion.

That being said libraries have electric outlets for a laptop, so you can play games (your steam games) there if you want, Mc Donalds and tons of other places have free wifi as well (including many hotels...once you have the password). It would be easy to park and sleep in hotel parking lots if you have tinted/covered windows etc (many have free breakfasts as well...supposedly for guests but I have seen homeless people in there before).

To store you clothes, books, video games etc...rent a storage locker. You can get a 5x5 which is enough space to store clothes etc, for about $30-$50. A 5x10 is actually large enough to sleep in, and you can do that during the day (sleep during the day when it's warm, and then do stuff at night when it's cold....would be great for alcoholics).

I have volunteered at food banks as well, they give out tons of food and there are often multiples in any area, so you could easily go to more then one and have more then enough food for yourself as well.

Most cars, even compact ones, can actually be altered to allow you to sleep comfortably and not have to be in the drivers/passangers seat. If the back of the car/front of the trunk folds down, you can put the passenger side seat back and sleep diagonally with a few blankets put down to even everything out. Should allow even a 7 foot person to stretch out in a normal sized car.

If you have no car, try rooftops if your in any kind of shape, nobody ever goes up there. Apartment complexes for instance are good, but the best when I was 16 was movie theaters as they are easy to climb and they have over hangs up top, that stops the rain. A sleeping bag and bam, your done.

If you need to get mail, you can get a PO box...it's cheap and easy to check often. That would let you work as well. A cell phone is $30 a month and gives you a method to read at night anywhere etc, just have to charge the phone the next day (you could do that without actually paying the $30 even, but it's good to have a phone, especially if you want to work anyway).

Does anyone have any advice for someone looking to get a better job? I mean, without schooling and such because I always found it difficult to balance between the two as enough as it is if I was ever doing both : / I'm always tired as fuck when I come home from my shitty factory job so i probably won't have the motivation to keep going.

Yeah, and I could find another job, true... But would you give up 20 vacation days? Yeah, I think not, lol. And fuck, I got that when I was hired in too first day. Other places you'd have to work like a full fucking year just to get only 5 days...

But yeah...its just menial factory work. I'm trying hard to really get the hell out of here someday though. I just don't know where to start at or what's a good enough opportunity..

I haven't but a friend of mine was up until recently. During the colder months they couch surfed and never stayed more than a couple of nights (their motto being that houseguests were like fish, they both stink after a few days). When it was warmer they had a few different places in the woods where they felt comfortable sleeping.
A couple of weeks ago thier boss found them a room to stay in. So far they like it but they still stay outside a couple nights a week.
