More like "The Dickman" considering how much he throws his willy around.

It's hilariously bad how people will only care if a D or R follows a name.

Not really. I was literally one of the first people to call for Franken's resignation. These allegations never end at one person and Kavanaugh is up to 4.

The New Yorker piece by Farrow and Mayer that details Ramirez's allegation was updated saying that two of the classmates who had signed a statement of support for Kavanaugh provided by his attorneys approached the New Yorker and requested their names be removed from the statement, saying they did not wish to dispute Ramirez's claims.

One was a woman in a pro-Kavanaugh TV Ad by Judicial Crisis Network

Link is the whole article, which I think was posted earlier, update is appended at the end.

Democrats have concluded Kavanaugh is guilty because of a Washington Post article and a New Yorker article. That's it. They've done it because they serve Moloch, not the American people.

I think my current thinking is that Kavanaugh is not confirmed. The insistence by McConnell and others strikes me as them trying to project a strength and certainty not there in reality. I think I'd say I'm about 2-to-1 on him not confirmed.

I think the Senate would prefer he withdraw and free them from this and it is admittedly difficult for me to pin down where I think the "No" votes come if a vote is forced but this feels like it's collapsing and has for the last week (has it even been a week it feels like forever.)

Assuming it does fall through, I think the GOP puts up Barret because they're super predictable and think by nominating a woman they can go "got 'em" or something. Think she does get confirmed regardless of the absurdity of that logic though.

He wouldn't! But if the nomination falls through he wouldn't have much of a choice.

That's why I've essentially discarded "Trump withdraws Kavanaugh's nomination" as a possibility here.

Jesus Christ Kavanaugh's defense is "no really I was a good Christian boy who didn't have sex or drink heavily."

You know how easy that is to refute? You know people have already come out and said he drinks too much? That he joined a bunch of sex-based clubs and made yearbook comments about sex?
At this point I can't imagine him getting confirmed. The red state Dems aren't gonna vote for him and I see a couple of Republicans turning. If he doesn't get pulled.

The one issue I have with that is that while I agree that I assume enough of the group of: Murkowski, Flake, Collins, Corker, and the ~3ish others that apparently are undecided are likely to vote against - and you only need 2 - whenever I focus on them individually I find myself doubting they'll do it.

I'm pretty sure the hearing will tank the nomination but at the same time like... will it?

As I said, I'd probably say there's a 1 out of 3 chance in my mind they just go "f it" and vote to confirm anyway.

A lawyer representing Kavanaugh, Alexandra Walsh, told The Times "Judge Kavanaugh was friends with Renate Dolphin in high school. He admired her very much then, and he admires her to this day."

"Judge Kavanaugh and Ms. Dolphin attended one high school event together and shared a brief kiss good night following that event," Walsh continued. "They had no other such encounter. The language from Judge Kavanaugh's high school yearbook refers to the fact that he and Ms. Dolphin attended that one high school event together and nothing else."

However, Dolphin said she never kissed Kavanaugh.

"I think Brett must have me confused with someone else, because I never kissed him," she said.

Lol so we have three different versions.

Renate Alumni stands for men who slept with this woman.

Renate Alumni stands for them sharing a kiss.

Renate Alumni stands for nothing because she never even kissed him.

Trump wants him because Kavanaugh thinks a president can't be convicted while in office and stuff like that, so he's specifically trying to get that vote for later events. And other Repubs want him because they want Trump's voter base.

Trump is the sole person who can select the nominee and Kavanaugh is the one who believes that presidents can't be investigated or subpoenaed. That's all he cares about.

The GOP is afraid of Trump's base turning on them if they go against Trump.

Again, I have little doubt that most of the GOP Senate wishes that Trump would withdraw the nomination or Kavanaugh himself would withdraw himself because it would allow them to escape all this without having to put a vote down either way.

The GOP has to push Kavanaugh through because their base is going to be pissed if they don't get an anti-Roe justice as fast as possible. Without a new justice, they won't have any popular accomplishments to get their voters energized before midterms, and there's not enough time left to get a new nominee approved before then even if Trump would consider backing down on Kavanaugh.

Trump is by far the most popular Republican politician to Republican voters, and has convinced the base that anyone who publicly opposes him on any issue is the enemy

They have to bend the knee or else risk their base staying home in November. The Trump mindset has taken over conservatism.

This is why we spend 50 bucks for the best background check instead of being cheap and only doing the 20 dollar version. Turns up all state and federal crimes, misdemeanors, and formal accusations (basically getting reported to the police or someone pressing charges), and a search of the sex offender registry. Nursing is like 90% women so you dont usually see anything, but its still good to run a check.

This is why its important that people actually report sexual assaults. It absolutely will turn up on a background check. Just accusing someone doesnt do anything long term. Reporting it will.

To answer the question, if I had equally qualified candidates and one popped for sexual assault allegations, not a chance in hell I hire.

Yes. I've explained my reasoning. If it was as simple as you're describing then the ACA repeal wouldn't have failed dramatically.

I haven't dismissed the essence of what you're saying. A 1 out of 3 chance is significant! But things are more complex than that.
