(Or is it supposed to be 30 days to Halloween? Do we count Halloween as a day? Meh.)

Was going to post a Halloween celebration topic yesterday, but then got sidetracked looking for the perfect Halloween card to give to the board and then got sidetracked by a bunch of other stuff.... and now it's one fewer day to celebrate!

At any rate, given that people say "Merry Christmas" all December (sometimes even after Christmas has happened), I figured Halloween deserves the same honors. And so this topic shall be a daily celebration of Halloween up until the big day! (And possibly thereafter.)

So.... what's everybody's favorite horror movie? Creepypasta? Horror manga? And what movies are people planning to watch this October?

Because it's a pretty natural inclination, tbh, especially because a lot of people had used either birth year or birthday for it in the past. And, in general, the newer somebody is to the internet, the more likely they are to do stuff like that.

Watched The Endless (2017? 2018?) last night, was pretty cool. It was about two brothers who went back to visit a cult they escaped from years ago, only to discover some fluky shit going on. Apparently it's the semi-sequel to Resolution, which also sounds pretty cool.

Unrelated to that, here's Grim, Grinning Ghosts, one of my favorite spooky songs

Earlier tonight I watched As Above So Below (which is finally on NFI). It was both better and worse than I had expected, bearing in mind I had really high hopes going in.

Completely unrelated, here's David S. Pumpkins to put you in the Halloween mood.

I can't remember if I stopped in Spirit of Halloween last year, but this year they had suits that looked David S Pumpkins-esque. At any rate, apparently it was turned into an animated film which I kinda need to track down.

Some have occasionally started in July. I suspect it's partly because the Thanksgiving and Christmas stuff starts going up for sale before Thanksgiving >_>

tbh, one of things I kinda look forward to every year is the new Spooky Town stuff which retailers like Michael's put on display. The designs are often humorously creative. This year one of the pieces involved a skeletal couple holding hands and taking their skeletal dog for a walk. Occasionally I've bought a smaller item on clearance but in recent years they tend to sell out before they get really cheap and, tbh, I just can't see buying a lot of the stuff anyway.

Already kinda fell out of the holiday spirit, partly because I was catching up on Saiki K instead of anything horror, etc. >_> idk, it's kind of a bummer that there's massive buy-in for Christmas so it gets a whole season whereas Halloween doesn't unless you're a kid or have kids. It's almost enough to make a guy want to knock up some chick.

At any rate, SNL had a so-so skit about pumpkin fucking over the weekend

It had some funny moments early on, but then it kept going.

Otherwise last night I was torn between watching Malevolence (NFI original) and "Black Museum." Had thought I'd watch Museum first because it was shorter but then realized/remembered that Black Mirror episodes an hour long so no matter what I probably wasn't finishing either one in a single sitting and decided to go with Malevolence because I assumed I'd be more okay with stopping it midway through (which I ultimately was).

Finished watching Malevolent. It started iffy, began to look promising, briefly got good, and then turned to absolute shit at the end. Speaking of absolute shit, when I went to mention the movie earlier I couldn't remember if it was named Malevolent or Malevolence. And, after googling it, I saw details for a crappy slasher named Malevolence which I remember seeing years earlier and was only really memorable for the stupid animal mask. Apparently that slasher got a prequel and a sequel.

And, just to toss out an overlooked Halloween song, here's AllStars's "Bump in the Night"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQyM53uDIT8" data-time="

Learned about the song maybe about a decade ago because it was used for an Ouran High School Host Club AMV. Coincidentally enough, I first learned of Ouran because of *another* AMV set to Simple Plan's "Grow Up."

Watched that "Black Museum" episode which was pretty good up until the semi-hokey ending. Granted, right when they walk into the final exhibit the twist becomes glaringly obvious which also kinda killed part of the fun. Oh, not to mention that it has the side-effect of casting doubt on the earlier stories, since Rolo clearly lied about some of the details concerning Clayton. I'm also not sure why they had to make Clayton innocent since the story works without that detail... and, really, the mother being in her body was a pointless touch, too.

Otherwise the whole thing comes together nicely between the technology progressively advancing and the little snippets of the weather girl story teasing the final exhibit

Oh, best of all? I was watching the credits and there was a card mentioning it was based on a story by Penn Jillette. Really neat learning that he had another talent. Going to have to read the original story (below) later.

Eh, fuck, lost my last post. Either misplaced the tab somehow or didn't hit post.

At any rate, had left (or was going to leave) a few comments about Creeped Out (that it's mostly terrible, especially compared to older kids horror shows like AYAOTD and Goosebumps; however the two-part finale was pretty good and featured Julian Richings (Death from Supernatural) and then mentioned plans to watch that new NFI show The Haunting of Hill House.

Came back to wonder if watching horror all year round kinda kills the Halloween season for me a little.

Started the Haunting of Hill House tonight -- wish I had gotten into it sooner today (or yesterday) because it looks pretty good... although it's hard to keep track of all of the characters so far, given that it's flipping between them.

What's a bit less good is the Curious Creations of Christine McConnell which, I guess I must have missed it in the description, is apparently a cooking show but with a running horror comedy angle.

None of the choices fit me. I am not a fan of Halloween, but my reason is not listed. I am not a candy person and don't like the thought of all that candy going to waste. During childhood, I enjoyed trick-or-treating, but now with so much crime and danger, I am not comfortable with children walking around at night. They are vulnerable, and I worry about their safety. I do not like some of the Halloween decorations and activities either because they are too sick or scary. For example, I'm a wimp and can't handle being startled.

Finished watching The Haunting of Hill House last night. It gets really neat by the end, although some of the reveals are a little goofy and out of place (like the Bent-Neck Lady possibly being a future Nell falling back through time to terrify herself -- although, I guess, it might have also just been the house fucking with Nell).

Not sure if I like Rose Red or HoHH better. HoHH had the great touch of sneaking in a lot of additional ghost stories unrelated to the main plot.
