That 9th inning almost killed me. I thought that sac fly was a grand slam off the bat. And I felt so sure that if you guys tied it, you were going to win tonight and game 5.

It's up to you, New York, New Yoooork.

The Dodgers are not an offensive WS option at least.

I want the Brewers to get annihilated because I fucking KNOW that if they end up against Boston in the WS they will do what small market NL teams do against Boston in the WS and get destroyed in four games, not interested in watching that again.

Be happy for us for once. Your team has a huge market and a huge payroll. Ours has the smallest market and a payroll around the bottom 1/3 in the league. Its literally a small market/payroll team against 3 huge market teams with payrolls significantly higher than ours. Youve been spoiled by having an owner who doesnt care about what they have to spend to put a good team on the field. Youll never go into an extended rebuild. When Yelichs contract is up in 3 years, do you think he resigns with the Brewers, or does he go to a team like the Yankees, Cubs, Red Sox, Dodgers, etc, who can pay him 4x more than we can afford without blinking. He goes to the team that can pay him more, which is why baseball always has those same teams near the top, and the rest of us waiting for tmthese magical years where things finally fall into place and you can make a run.

The Brewers are rarely in this position, and our window is really small to be here again. This is a really special time in Milwaukee, to the point where people are more interested in the Brewers than the Packers (partially because the Packers suck right now). Your window as a Yankees fan will always be open, and youve always got something to play for when October gets close.

Even though I expect the Dodgers to absolutely destroy the Brewers in this series, its been awesome to be able to experience playoff baseball again. This is the 5th time in 50 years that the Brewers have been in the playoffs because we dont have the same advantages that your team does when it comes to market and financial backing. Be happy that your team contends every year, instead of being shocked on the rare occasions where theyre still playing for something in September.

It sucks that your team thats in this position every year lost, but youre going to have this excitement pretty much every year for as long as you remain a fan of the Yankees. Youre not going to watch that window close again, and have to sit there wondering if youll ever get to see your team playing in October again before you die.

What do you think about the Red Sox chances vs. the Astros, neon? Anything can happen of course, but the Astros do look really good. I expect the Red Sox to put up much more of a fight than the Indians did at least. But I just think the Astros will be able to capitalize off the Red Sox bullpen, which the Yankees failed to do.

I think Houston's pitching staff can keep Boston's lineup down way way way better than our pitching staff can keep theirs. Cleveland was an incredible team and had a great year and improved themselves at the deadline and their season was basically just erased with Balefire by the Astros.

Realistically it's hard to see the Sox winning because of those Price/Cole games. Price is going to have to be a hero, or the lineup is going to have to go nuts, or we're just going to have to win some strange game (which the team seems to keep doing). Like some random Sandy Leon 2 HR game that makes no sense, or the Astros keep leaving guys on base the way the Yankees did. Being pragmatic I just think Houston wins in 6 and we try to figure out how to make David Price opt out. Being optimistic, we split Verlander games, get to Keuchel because this lineup can be configured to crush lefties, Porcello is rolling like 2006 Jeff Suppan, we split Sale/Verlander, lose the Price games, and it's all hands on deck with a rested Eovaldi that only needs to go 3 IP followed by a little Porcello and Sale.

So let's say Astros in 6 or Sox in 7. I think Game 2 and 3 mirror the ALDS where the teams took turns looking way better than the other one.

I'll say it's a coin flip and pretend the bullpen isn't full of arsonists and fault pacemakers.

Dodgers > Braves (3)
Red Sox > Yankees (5)
Astros > Indians (4)

I got every winning team right so far except the NL Wild Card game winner. I thought the Cubs would win that one. I think Astros win the ALCS in 6 or 7 games. And while I feel like the Dodgers are the more sensible pick for the NLCS, I really want to believe in the Brewers. So I'm going to go with them winning it in 7.

I don't think the World Series will go to Game 7 again. I expect the Astros to crush either team they face. Still would love to be wrong and possibly see the Brewers win it all.

I'm all for conspiracy theories and I'm a Brewers fan, but even I think this is absurd. I agree with him the MLB wants the Dodgers to win because the Brewers winning is something people will only care about in Wisconsin, but they're not going to rig the games to make sure it happens.

It's going to happen naturally :(

I think they know better than to actively do something. Baseball is kind of struggling to get new fans and it would be a disaster if they organized a team to lose. The most they'll do is have an umpire crew that somehow benefits LA but even then... a shred evidence gets out and MLB is a joke and LA is a joke, etc. If it even becomes a legit whisper among owners, that becomes a huge, huge problem.

I'd say don't worry at all. This isn't Stern's NBA.

You misunderstand me.

Of course I'm happy for the Brewers, and of the four remaining I absolutely prefer them winning to every alternative.

You just have to understand, my top priority is Boston losing. And I have seen what happens when they come up against small market NL teams in the WS enough to know that your guys will get shit wrecked if that's the matchup.

If they proved me wrong, I'd be ecstatic, but I just want the Dodgers there because I think they matchup better against Boston (and I want Kershaw to get a ring).

Manfred generally does a good job with general MLB runnings - much better than Selig.
He still has his share of issues like turning a complete blind eye to ... certain ownerships intentionally sabotaging the team for the sake of ego ... and also he likes to mess around with rules shit too much that doesn't need to be messed around with... and doing dumb shit to reduce the TIME OF GAME as opposed to improving the PACE OF PLAY, which I don't think he realizes are 2 different things.

Other than that he's doing ok... you'll never see rigged games or anything in baseball these days.

On the subject of the upcoming Championship series games, I'm starting to not hate the idea of the Red Sox winning anymore. The thing about this Red Sox team is that I like almost everyone on it. It's not like the old days where there were guys like Varitek, Youkilis, and Papelbon to hate. Maybe a significant part of it is just getting older. Plus, I really do enjoy the way they play baseball. I still would prefer to see the Astros beat them, but I don't consider the Red Sox losing the priority anymore.

Not over yet, but this has been a great game as a Brewer fan. This is such an unorthodox approach to pitching by Counsell. Never show the Dodgers the same pitcher twice. Start them off with a lefty in Gio. Switch to a righty in Woodruff. Then back to the power left in Hader. Never let the Dodger hitters get settled in.

Also....I just really dislike Machado. He must have the biggest ego in all of baseball. Very smug.

They still have Burnes, but I don't think he can do it solo. Hader's definitely out tomorrow, Soria and Jeffress were both off (though Jeffress seems to be off more often than on lately), and Knebel scraped by.

They sit there and talk about how pitching Hader for 3 innings was a bad move, but look at what happened with the guys following him. They almost gave away the game. Without Hader tomorrow I don't think they're going to win that game. Could be done with the series before it even gets back to Milwaukee.

No way was it a bad move. Win the games you have in hand. There is no game more important than the game you are winning. You go up 1-0, 2-0, it doesn't matter how beat up you are, you have massively increased your chance of winning the series. Dont kill yourself in the game and throw 200 pitches and be out for the series, but doing what you have to do to make sure you win is absolutely the right move.

Seriously, we've won 12 games in a row. We did finish with a better regular season record than these guys. Let's start believing in ourselves.

Rockies played like crap against us.
Cubs played like crap against us.
Tigers/Cardinals played like crap against us.

When are we going to start to get credit for the other teams playing like crap? They are playing like crap because our pitching is amazing. We fell apart a bit at the end there, but held through. As much as I dislike Machado, he is a force to be reckoned with at the plate.

Counsell is just going to have to be less trigger happy tomorrow. If he starts Miley, maybe let him go a bit longer if he's doing fine. Maybe switch in Peralta in there to get them into the later innings, then throw in Burnes, and get Jeffress/Knebel to close it out.

Counsell managed this game like it was a 1 game series and this is why:

"Teams that have won Game 1 of a best-of-seven League Championship Series at home have gone on to win the series 24 out of 35 times (69 percent). In all NLCS matchups, the winner of Game 1 has a 23-9 (.719) series record. And 18 of the last 19 Dodgers postseason series have been won by the team victorious in Game 1. The only exception was last year's World Series, when the Dodgers won the opener and lost Game 7."

It seems strange that just the first game can cause such a tilt, but historically, it's a huge advantage for whatever reason, especially in the Dodger's case.

Although...last time Brewers were in the NLCS, we won game 1 at home, then lost the series in 6. So...it's not a failproof script.

Ugh, I'm glad I turned it off when I did. I don't think A-Rod has picked the Brewers to win a game this postseason yet. And Ortiz...just dont get me started with him.

Looking back at the game yesterday, what kind of stikes me is how it was not our pitching that won that game, but our hitting. If you told me we'd give up 5 runs to the Dodgers with Kershaw on the mound, I'd say that was probably a Dodger win. It was our ability to chase Kershaw, and get some key insurance runs, that gave us the cushion we needed to allow our bullpen to falter a bit there.

mlb.com has a great little article called "Actually, the Brewers are the favorites in this NLCS". It seems like ESPN and Fox Sports are making a concerted effort to cast Milwaukee as a lucky, upstart small market team that is just waiting to be blasted away by a playoff experienced big market team. A little snippet from the article:

"To recap: The team with the league's best record, with the league's best home-field advantage, with the best player on the field riding a historic hot streak ... still gets to come in feeling that it's the underdog because of the discourse. "

I'm honestly tired of the narrative that the Brewers are just lucky to be here. They finished with the best record in the NL, have formidable players. They belong in this NLCS, and they certainly can win this series no matter if the Dodgers "play like crap" or not.

Also, I'm going to go get my free George Webb hamburger today. :)

Edit: Oh, boo, just found out the free burgers aren't going to be given out until Thursday. Lame!

Even if the Brewers win the world series, the narrative will still be that they were just lucky. They're a small market, small payroll team swimming with huge market, huge payroll teams right now. They're not a moneymaker as far as reporting goes.

A-Rod is a pretty abysmal broadcaster. Relies almost entirely on sensationalism and basically never has any insightful comments to make. No real opinions on Ortiz, but yeah, that probably means he's bad in his own way.

Loved seeing Bob Uecker call that bottom half of the inning.

One thing that is shocking me that players aren't running hard on their ground balls. I think I've seen with both teams now players just slow down. I get that statistically they know that they wont make it. But you never know when a bobble or miss will happen. I don't get why they aren't running everything out full force. Maybe it's a stamina thing.
