Arnold Schwarzenegger admitted he stepped over the line several times with women in the past and regretted calling his political opponents girlie men.

In an interview with Men's Health published Wednesday, The Terminator actor addressed the #MeToo movement and said he apologized for his behavior toward women in the past.

Looking back, I stepped over the line several times, and I was the first one to say sorry. I feel bad about it, and I apologize, Schwarzenegger said. When I became governor, I wanted to make sure that no one, including me, ever makes this mistake.

In 2003, Schwarzenegger was running for governor of California when he was accused of groping women without their consent. The alleged incidents spanned for three decades on movie sets and studio offices, the Los Angeles Times reported at the time.

"Did he rape me? No," a woman said about a 1980 encounter in which Schwarzenegger allegedly touched her breast. "Did he humiliate me? You bet he did."

Schwarzenegger said once he was elected governor, he and his staff took sexual harassment prevention courses.

Thats why we took sexual harassment courses, to have a clear understanding, from a legal point of view and also from a regular-behavior point of view, of what is accepted and what is not, Schwarzenegger said.

The former California governor added though that his views on masculinity have not changed, saying hes always had respect for women.

Another regret Schwarzenegger has is calling his political opponents girlie men.

At the time it felt like the right thing to do. It was in my gut. I improvised it, he said.

I called them girlie men because they werent willing to take risks, he continued. They were afraid of everything. Politicians, in general, want to do little things so theres no risk involved. But it was shortsighted. In the long term, its better to not say that, because you want to work with them.

For those of you who didn't know, Arnold is notorious for groping women. Back in the days when men groping women wasn't considered a big deal like it is now, it was seen more like stealing cookies from the cookie jar, he did it all the time.

Often to women he only just met.

Ever since he got into politics his crew have done a really good job downplaying his several decades of "cheeky hands"

So It's cool that he's not denying it.

But are we certain that we are carefully waiting for all the fact to be in, here ? I mean he claims he did it, but so far these are just allegations about himself. Often people have been seen admitting things that they didn't even do, especially under specific tense or pressured circumstances.
Shouldn't we just rather wait for due process and draw our conclusions from there, instead of starting yet another hysterical witch hunt on the chap ?

"It was wrong because it hurts politics, not becausing using "girl" as an insult is a bad thing".

This is a dumb man image washing, not really understand the different layers of what he did wrong.

I don't think using "girl" an insult towards men implies being a girl is a bad thing.

As "man" is an insult towards women.

The disrespect comes from calling you something you're not, not from what you're being called being bad.

If Trump said "Look at that mannish woman!" to Warren he wouldn't be hailed as giving a great compliment.

You guys sure do have an odd sense of perception.

Calling a man a "girl" shouldn't be insulting to girls. It's not designed to be at all. It's only insulting to men who are called "girl", because men don't want to be girls. It's like telling a girl she looks like a dude. That isn't offensive to men. But it's offensive to the girl because girls usually don't want to look like men.

Exactly.

It's an insult but not disrespecting women.

I've always assumed the point of cross-gender insults was an implication that failing to meet the social expectations of your gender was a failing as a person, basically a message of "you are an embarrassment to your sex" rather than "the other gender is bad"

anyway, it is good that he recognizes what he did was wrong

better than the alternative i guess. the bar is low.

i know you don't

It's like trying to explain that 2 + 2 = 4 is different to 2 + 3 = 5 to someone who says they don't comprehend how numbers work.

I'll try.

One statement is insulting one person.

The other statement is saying that said person is insulting billions of people.

Same as going up to a Chinese guy and going "You're stupid!" vs "You just said all Chinese people are stupid!"

I don't get how you can't tell the difference.

It's disrespecting men by implying theyre inferior for acting different. For acting like women. It insults both genders because the insult relies on the person viewing women as a step below. If that wasnt the case, there'd be no sting to it
