I eat this stuff like every day but I walk like 30 minutes a day and have a kind of physical job.
Should I be concerned?
I eat both the cups and the ones you boil in a pan.
I know it's a lot of salt, but I also eat one home cooked meal a week and have some sandwich at work.
It's just so inexpensive and it makes it that much easier to enjoy all the time.

Any advice on making it 71?
It makes me think of soda. I enjoy it, it's inexpensive but not good for you. With those two positives, it's hard to resist sometimes but I'm working juice into my diet.

I ordered some fancy ramen from a Japanese place. It was mostly pork but also garnished with a few fish cakes

Upon investigation they appeared to be sliced pieces of processed fish meat, basically hot dog wieners of the sea

First of all, that is way too much fucking ramen. And secondly, this is the most important here is that stuff has so much sodium, don't be surprised if you might end up with a kidney stone or two. One of the major causes for kidney stones is a very high sodium intake. And also, you should look up a video on YouTube what ramen actually does to your stomach. It's kind of disgusting but.. It's so true and made me wanna stop eating it all together. Ramen basically just lingers in your stomach for a while. Taking a long time to digest. This is why you feel a bit groggy sometimes and I sure as hell did when I ate it.

Leaving out the seasoning packet from a package of Top Ramen would reduce the sodium from 66% DV down to 20%, which is still a lot, and it won't affect the huge amount of fat in the noodles (22% DV fat, 32% DV saturated fat).

High sodium intake increases urinary calcium excretion, which can increase the risk of developing kidney stones.

But Ramen is even cheaper. Also, it depends on what you like. Like I'm not the biggest fan of beans, but I'll eat them. And rice is good. But both get kind bland after a while. Ramen is cheaper, and has a good deal of flavors, which are also pretty cheap. Haha.

Dude I think you go too far with rationalizing your poor dietary habits. It's okay to admit that you could eat better. Maybe sometimes you do, but always in the most obvious ways, like saying your prefer the taste of soda to water. I mean I think most people would say soda tastes better, but that doesn't mean they'd all want to drink it more than water.

I dunno what I'm trying to say exactly, I guess that you seem way too reluctant to branch out in the slightest. I know it can be tough to break bad habits but making rice/beans instead of ramen once in a while, or replacing a soda with a glass of water, aren't exactly big steps.

I get other food. For me, ramen is usually a snack, if anything. And I know they have other flavors. But the flavored one do seem to cost more. Could be my area, though. But I also feel I get bored of those quickly. I do like to use them as sides, though. When I was struggling, though. I did eat a lot of those. 10 cents a pack is pretty good...

For the post above that one, I actually do branch out. I don't know when I said I didn't. I much rather not drink water. I do, but usually when there isn't another choice. Normally, a water fountain at work or other random times. I eat lots of stuff. Some good, some bad. I just don't really think I should eat healthy stuff I don't like only because it's healthy. I like trying new foods, too. For the rationalizing, I rationalized if I think it can be rational. Like he said he exercises, has sandwiches at work, and still eats a home cooked meal about once a week. Sure, he probably eats too many, maybe. But he does eat other stuff, too, it seems. I would say my diet is the worst. But it's definitely not the best. But I don't think most people know my full diet. Technically, I change my diet pretty often, too. Finding new things I like or whatever.

I'm not always dismissive. But you can think that if you want. And it's ok if you don't like my attitude. It's hard to really take stuff like that to heart when people here only know so much about a person. Also, I actually like the taste, but it's ok if you don't. I don't even eat it that often. So, it should matter much. I eat a lot of things that aren't super healthy. This is one of them. Before this week, I hadn't had one in weeks. Again, it may not be the healthiest thing, but I've barely even had that much recently.

A lot of stores will put pasta on sale for $1 for a 1 pound box, that's 8 servings (1 packet of ramen is 2 servings). Buy some canned Italian-style diced tomatoes, a bottle of Italian herbs, and a jar of Parmesan cheese, toss it all together in a pot and simmer to make your own sauce.

Two servings of pasta with tomatoes and cheese has:

530 calories
47 calories from fat

(% DV)
8% fat
10% saturated fat
4% cholesterol
10 to 28% sodium (depends on the brand of tomatoes)
24% fiber
16% Vitamin A
40% Vitamin C
10% Vitamin E
20% Vitamin K
60% Thiamine
30% Riboflavin
40% Niacin
60% Folic Acid
32% Iron
16% Calcium
8% Magnesium
12% Manganese
8% Phosphorus
12% Potassium

12-15 grams Lycopene

tl;dr, Pasta is only slightly more expensive than ramen, nearly as fast to make, and WAY WAY healthier.

I did a quick search and you can get a case of 20 bags of pasta (1 pound each) for $10 (online for that mattered, delivered to you).

I would need to check and see how much it is at winco etc, but you might be able to get it for even less then 50 cents a pound.

That being said, even 50 cents a pound is probably around the cost/ratio of ramen (from what you listed it was 25-28 cents a package). It's probably about 1/4th a pound per package....so the pasta is actually cheaper.

Which means............

You could afford the sauce as well for the same price as the ramen.

There are can's of sauce...forget the brand name, that are normally $1 a pop at safeway etc, and less then that other places. Same size as the other brands, and comes with spices etc in it already. Might even be able to find them on sale or in bulk some places for only 50 cents a can.

More then enough for 4 meals (one pound of pasta), so your total cost would be about the same as the Ramen noodles.

But you said you like meat. The cheapest I found a 10 pound 80% ground beef was $10.81 on the internet. I know you can get it for less (believe i've seen it for $6.00 before on sale). At safeway you often get the max packs of ground beef for $3/pound and they put them on sale at night 50% off. Many other stores sell the ground beef for $1 a pound the night before they expire.

Even at $2 a pound which I am sure you can find, 1/2 a pound added to 2 jars of sauce, and then frozen would make you enough sauce for a week easily (each jar is 4 meals add in the 1/2 pound meat and you might even stretch it to 10 meals if your light on the sauce (but not on the flavor...use some spices to help it along and a bit of oil).

You are not going to want to eat ONLY pasta, but you could do this as your main meal.

So total price for 10 meals or so:

2 1/2 1 pound packages of pasta at 50 cents a pop is $1.25
2 cans of Heinz pasta sauce at 50 cents a pop $1.00
1/2 pound of ground beef at $2 per pound $1.00

Total cost for 10 meals 3.25 or about 33 cents per meal.

Compared to 25-28 cents per ramen (and honestly you are probably gonna eat 2 ramen if it's a meal).

You also get real meat this way.

I would actually toss in one large french roll $1.00 per 3 days...it's cheap and lets you soak up every last drop of sauce. That and the pasta could actually be all you eat, although I'd suggest a few other things to go with it and be a bit healthier. The french roll is very filling though and would boost your cost by another 33 cents a day...to 66 cents total.

Leave 33 cents more to make you eat on $1 a day.

Remember that french bread? Can use it for more then meal, and it's good ot get some veggies soooooooooo.

Bullion cubes are extremely extremely cheap. Get some of those and some veggies. The options are wide on the veggie front...here is a list of the cheapest prices of veggies. Potatoes are the cheapest at 19 cents average a pound, but cauliflower is cheaper then brocoli florets at only 40 cents a pound. Using the list you can certainly make a interesting beef and veggie soup every day for 33 cents to go with your french bread as well.

I would probably round things out a bit with eggs for breakfast (you can usually get 18 for $2-3 most places)....allowing for 2 eggs every morning as well.

Btw, I recently volunteered at a food bank and they give away tons of food from super markets twice a week. It's more then one person could eat honestly (sadly most of the people had many kids...and we had to limit them to 1 per family for most of the food (that was my job which is NOT what I wanted to volunteer for!).

Point being, if your really pinching pennies, you could probably get more then enough food from a local food bank to feed both you and another person pretty well, and spend pretty much nothing at all yourself.
