We used to have to go to the food bank when I was a kid. One time we got a big can that didnt even have any writing on it, it just had the black outline of a pig

Sometimes we would get good stuff though

Why is the Ramen in this topic so expensive. I think I get them for like $0.10 a pack. So a 12-pack was like $1.20...

They used to be that cheap, but, at least from what I have seen it's hard to get em for less then .20 a pop now, and even that isn't easy to find. I was just going on what he posted since stuff has gone up so much across the board.

A quick search though shows a 6 pack for $1.60 at walmart and I'm sure you can get cheaper than that....so shrug.....may not be able to get em for 10 cents anymore, but also may not be 25 cents a pop either if you buy them in bulk.

No matter what it won't be that much cheaper then pasta though and pasta is healthier. If you can't find a way to get $5 a week to have pasta even night.....I mean, you could probably just walk around and get that much from picking up change, finding quarters/change in soda machines/vendor machines/video arcades (if you can find any anymore) etc. If you live somewhere you can trade in cans/bottles you can get that much easily etc.

I just watch a part of a video about these guys making the first instant Ramen that's healthy or something. I haven't had a chance to watch the whole video. So, I don't know how it ends. But I just don't have the time right now. But here it is if anyone wants to see it... I think it's kind of in the first part. But... I don't think it talks that much about it. It more about the business side. But maybe they talk about it more than I think...

What are the health differences between bouillon and what instant ramen provides you?

I believe it's the noodles in ramen that is very unhealthy, and you can get non-super salty bouillon as well.

The noodles though are supposed to be very hard to digest and not contain almost anything good for you or something (read about it once).

There is no way this is true. The packets have a shitload of salt so that's where the health issue comes from.

But it is true that it takes longer for the noodles to be digested. According to that doctor. Though, I'm not sure why that's super unhealthy. I just remember a little of the video. But the doctor says he still eats them. Haha.

I would think one would want food to last a while inside the body. We advanced through heating foods but how much good would it do if food just flew through our bodies?

Do any of you avoid processed food every day?
Looking at my diet, something is always processed. Heck, even my coffee is instant.
I mean, I make a full dinner for my girlfriend and me once a week, so the meat typically isn't processed, but everything has some salt or something in it.

Instant coffee is shit. You should only be buying it if you can't afford real coffee.

I wouldn't say it's that bad. But I'm not a normal coffee drinker. It's very rare that I drink it. But I know some people have busy schedules where instant coffee probably works best for them. And nothing is wrong with wanting good coffee. But Mead is right about people in the US having some sort of superiority complex when it comes to coffee...

Instant is delicious and allows me to drink it cold. I love cold, bitter coffee when it's warm.
I turned a buddy onto the coffee I drink cause he didn't know instant works just about as well in cold coffee.

And for any snob that looks down upon instant but buys coffee from an establishment like Starbucks, you're border line hypocrite.

Idk why the US is so snobby with coffee. Maybe it's just a cheap enough product where people pay more to feel superior.

You can drink any coffee cold. Also you wouldn't be a hypocrite for getting coffee from a coffee shop since that would be higher quality than instant.

I drink instant coffee all the time. I can't really tell much of a difference between it and regular coffee. You put as much sugar and cream in your coffee as I do and you wouldn't be able to tell either.

Now cold-brewed is a totally different ballgame. The cold-brew process extracts more of the sweet components and less of the bitter. I can drink cold-brewed coffee black, while I can't stand hot coffee that way.

Cold-brew is super easy to make too, you just need some ground coffee, a couple big jars, a funnel, and some filters. I use a couple of well cleaned 64 oz mayo jars. Add 1 cup of ground coffee, fill completely with cool water, seal, then leave on the counter overnight. Next day, put a filter in the funnel & run the brewed coffee through into the second jar. This makes a concentrate that you can store in the fridge for a week or two. Dilute with cold water or milk when you want a drink, usually about 1:1.

Now if only someone would make a freeze-dried instant cold-brew...

Also, as far as the coffee conversation goes, pretty sure it's up to personal taste. I hate Starbucks (too bitter, even though I enjoy some bitterness), hate Tim Hortons (ridiculously bland), enjoy McDonalds (at least here in Canada, used to be trash, and is now quite good) and mostly find local coffee shops with well-trained staff using beans from local roasteries make the most flavorful and aromatic coffee. Guess I'm a snob! I still enjoy gas station coffee, as some extra flavoring will mask the less uhhh...expressive flavor (**** I'm a snob).

It is kind of heartbreaking for me if I'm somewhere that only has instant coffee though. Definitely does not taste the same, even with cream and sugar.

Just because you're not fat does not mean you're not unhealthy. You can keep your calorie intake lower than your metabolism easily enough but if you're only eating salt and carbs you're gonna be dying on the inside.

I just like it the normal way. Maybe adding meat would taste ok, but I don't even know what I'd add that I would like. And while peanut butter sounds weird, I'd probably at least try it. The stuff that sounds weird sometimes taste good. How did they add it? Just like drop a glop of it in or what?
