I think Roy's always been sort of a second banana to Marth, in the West. When you're introduced as a clone of another character from the same series, it's hard to be "Roy" rather than "& Roy".

There was recently a survey of Western Trails fans with over 1000 respondents, and for "favorite character" Estelle was far and away the winner. Even with Cold Steel 2 up there as a top tier game, the fans LOVE Estelle.

but as mentioned, the fanbase is still small, even if dedicated.

Attacking anyone? No. But there's some truth in that Leon is...well, he's the same man he was when I joined this board like a decade ago. And I don't feel anyone should be proud of not changing in a whole decade, I guess? He still has the same passive-aggressive posting style, he still brickwalls conversation instead of trying to reach out and talk to people. It's sad because I share a bunch of interests with him, but I can't say I'd ever want to spend time discussing them with him. It's just a singularly unattractive proposition, and lord knows some of the people I used to be bitter enemies with on this board have become close friends because I changed and they changed too and we grew up as people. So I can see where Ange is coming from perfectly. I don't bear any ill will towards him, but I do wish he'd change, for his own sake. I can't imagine it's fun to talk to people like he does.

Leon is very distinctly standoffish to people he isn't friends with. I can probably dig up examples if I go looking around, but it's noticeable. I don't think he's a bad person or anything, but...well, it's noticeable and not exactly an endearing character trait I guess?

Eh, don't worry about it. I've somehow become a polarizing figure on Board 8 in recent years, but it doesn't bother me. I've got friends here that I care about and who care about me still, and that's good enough for me. If people I've never really gotten to know don't like me or find me annoying, so be it. They're not why I'm here.

Also, I've changed plenty over the 15 years I've been coming here. They're just not obvious in ways that people who don't actually converse with me regularly would notice, and I don't share that side of me with B8ers I don't consider friends anyway.

I enjoy seeing how stuff within the fanbase plays out in stuff like that. Like, there have been major polls and contests among the MGS fanbase that indicate that Big Boss is actually the most popular character in the series (and rightfully so imhotbqh). Snake ends up being the most popular one in these contests among people who aren't dedicated MGS fans though!

Until recently FE6 was mostly ignored by the fandom except for its FE7 connections. Heroes has done more for it than any other game except for obvious reasons the Judgral duology, who also never came out in the West
