imagine having fresh vegetables for like half the year (more or less depending on your weather) that haven't been touched by pesticides and you can go get them whenever you want

I grew a ton of yellow squash and cherry tomatoes this year. Grew some zucchini and cucumbers too but the yellow squash and tomatoes went crazy! I'm still gathering the tomatoes.

My mom does that at her house in Hawaii. Whenever I visit we get fresh salads and dude you're right. Plus there's tons of fresh fruit trees:. Mango, papaya, banana, tangerine, lililoi, avocado, plus some others and damn.... I'ma go book a trip home right now. Thanks TC, you helped me decide what to do this winter either snowboarding in Tahoe or go visit home and surf. There's no place like home.

That is why you have an outdoor cat or some strays.

They eat a lot of those.

When I was a kid we lived on what used to be a big farm. Had fresh green beans, tomatoes, potatoes, squash, onions, zucchini as well as green and purple grape vines and a couple pear and peach trees. Neighbor had corn fields so we had fresh picked corn all the time too

Indoors, hydroponically in a controlled environment. I'm going to go with a variety of heavily fruiting annuals.

Are you poor or something? Why would you be required to stop being a picky eater, that sounds more like a financial issue rather than maturity lol

I farm part time, for fun and for this reason that TC posted. I generally have crops year round and grow enough to feed me and the wife, and some to give out and trade in the community. I've grown a few dozen different varieties, i'm trying squash for the first time this season.

Pepper plants self pollinate primarily by way of insects. Get a qtip/paintbrush/finger/etc and go crazy on the little flowers you see.

i'll try that next year (just lost all my pepper plants to the tropical storm) but i dont think a lack of pollinators was the issue, someone nearby has a bee hive so my yard is constantly buzzing with bees. i really think its been the heat, i think the flowers die when you have blistering hot temps. though its possible that i just need more variety, since some plants generate fruits from its own pollen at a very low level and i think i only planted one line of peppers.

Pepper can't pollinate or flower when it gets too hot, but if you want them to bear decent fruit, they need a bit of phosphorus, but also need a little sulfur too.
