Here are the 2010s games in the top 100:
1. Mass Effect 2 (#15 all-time)
2. Red Dead Redemption (#20)
3. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (#21)
4. The Last of Us (#25)
5. Portal 2 (#28)
6. Minecraft (#31)
7. Grand Theft Auto V (#35)
8. The Witcher 3 (#47)
9. Dark Souls (#50)
10. Super Mario Galaxy 2 (#64)
11. Journey (#66)
12. The Walking Dead (#75)
13. Batman: Arkham City (#82)
14. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (#88)
15. Overwatch (#97)

God, I only just now decided to look this over and realized, wow, the only FPS on this list is Overwatch. Which is kinda surreal, considering 7 of the all-time top 30 are FPS games, including the top 2 of the 2000s.

I'm hoping this means the concept of Open World will eventually stop losing its overwhelming influence; at least most of these FPS games take less than 10 hours to beat. It's exhausting having so many games take several dozen hours when so much of that time feels substance-less.

That's why I don't really get The Witcher III. It feels like Red Dead Redemption with fantasy and dragged out to a hundred hours. After a certain point, it's more exhausting than anything.

Im having trouble thinking of what all has even come out since 2010. I tried to like check Wikipedia 2010-2016 gaming, but when it lists like literally everything it takes an awful long time to look through.

Off the top of my head these would probably be in my top 10 at least

The Last of Us
Fire Emblem Awakening
Persona 4 Golden >_>

No one here is talking about the biggest trend of the 2010s, I think. The RISE of E-Sports. And League had so much to do with it.

Another big trend, streaming. League was associated closely with both. I feel like on Board 8 people like "traditional" games without those 2 factors.

Yea it was, in terms of release date. You can't really go by release date anymore, in this new era of gaming, at least that's how I feel. League of Legends was NOT as 2000s game, it was released in late 2009.

I'd say go by google trend peak. League peaked in Sept 2014, or 2014 in general:

League and Fortnite are only where they are due to being free. It's a lot easier to spread when anyone can just decide to check it out. I see few people considering them truly high quality or influential as games; what followed in their footsteps? Really, they kind of remind me of 2048; other people did and could do what they're doing better, but no one will actually pay upfront for a similar game when a decent enough one is free. If anything, I'd say they actually sabotaged their own particular genre.

I mean Black Ops 4 did away with having a campaign mode specifically so it could have a mode like Fortnite, and it's getting great reviews and preorder numbers, including passing the previous CoD in preorders almost instantly, so

Like, yeah, PUBG is a thing, but that type of game wouldn't be nearly as huge without Fortnite

Care to explain, or?

OoT is the best game ever and all...

But do you want to play it for the next 20 years remade over and over?

Because every single main LoZ game since then except ALBW has been OoT again.

The fact that Breath is getting the unreal response it did is perfect. It means we can go farther with this innovation.

On the subject of the future of Zelda: I absolutely loved Breath of the Wild. It's probably the only open-world game I've ever enjoyed. But I really, really don't want the next Zelda game to be BotW 2. They'll never be able to capture the same magic of exploring Hyrule again, not after I've already done it once, and I'd much prefer a return to the "intricately designed experience" form of game design.

Also, I would dispute that every Zelda after OoT was just OoT again - Majora's Mask, in particular, strikes me as a radically different game, despite playing exactly the same and using the same models.

they'll probably just make Breath of the Wild 2, released in 2020, releases as a good but not amazing game.

I saw my brother play through Breath of the Wild. I thought it seemed like a generic open-world RPG, gorgeous for sure, but kinda just like GTA 5 but in Hyrule. I guess I was just looking for more innovation.

I think now that their handheld and console divisions are slowly merging, I think theyll more or less alternate between guided experiences and open world freedom from game to game

Kinda like Forza I guess, which is an odd comparison
