The United States will condone the murder of journalists, because Saudi Arabia's dick is stuck firmly up America's ass pumping that sweet oil into your rectum.

Journalists who dare to criticize their government are, after all, "enemies of the people".

Turkey really needs to stop, things are going to be bad enough for it come Thanksgiving already, no need to make it worse.

If Trump called out the Saudis on this I'd actually respect it quite a bit because it's something I think most other Presidents wouldn't have done, and would lend credence to his image as an outsider trying to fix politics. I don't expect it though. He hasn't called out Turkey despite them being similarly shit. Or even Russia.

Trump literally signed a 110 billion dollar arms deal with them shortly after taking office

Most of the publicly announced items had been previously announced by the Obama administration and there appeared to be few, if any, signed contracts. Rather, many of the announcements were MOIs memorandums of intent. There were six specific items, adding up to $28 billion, but all had been previously notified to Congress by the Obama administration.

In essence, this is a wish list. Its worth recalling that Obama offered Saudi Arabia $115 billion in deals, about half of which resulted in actual sales.

Probably the same way most of his predecessors would have.

Namely, grab their ankles and stick their head in the sand.

Youre probably right. If nothing happened when we found out the 9/11 hijackers were trained by SA special forces, why would something happen over this

We constantly complain about militant and fundamentalist Islam, yet Saudi Arabia has basically been the source of it for 200+ years:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wahhabism

It's been argued in the past that the current state of Islam being so radicalized and violent is pretty much entirely because they found oil there during WWII and we haven't stopped sucking them off since.

Though the guy currently in charge, Rouhani (spelling?), seems pretty good, and Trump was really dumb to throw him under the bus and abandon the nuclear treaty. Probably will end in him losing power in favor of a more "traditional" America-hater, and we'll once again be The Great Satan to them.
...OMG! I finally know what trump meant by MAGA!

Well, the difference there is that they generally have little to no actual power over governing.

Though I think a genuine constitutional monarchy is still fine as a form of government, as long as a parliament or other body does have the power to override the monarch if he goes nuts.

To be fair, that was almost entirely our fault as well.

When you deliberately help hamstring a modernized democratic revolution in favor of maintaining the power of a despised monarch who happens to be in your back pocket, you kind of lose a bit of your grounds to complain when that monarch later gets overthrown by a militant and radical religious revolt that mostly still hates you for interfering the first time around.

And then when you spend the next 40 years shutting down trade and political relations with them, and never treating them as anything other than an antagonistic entity, it's probably not surprising that they don't necessarily feel all that interested in being friends.

Basically, if we'd stayed the fuck out and not backed the Shah in the 1950s, Iran would be a VERY different place right now, and our relations with them would probably be a hell of a lot better:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1953_Iranian_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat

On top of which, a more democratized Iran would have obviated the need for us to support Iraq in the 1980s, which in turn probably would have prevented the Gulf War and the post 9/11 intervention there, which in turn would mean ISIS wouldn't currently be a thing.

Oh, I know Iran's hatred of the US is our own fault, especially for what we did in the 1950's.

But the fact still remains...they hated us, wasn't so simple to just suddenly be friends. We were gradually thawing relations under Obama, but now...
