What a terrible year to be... anything except mainline Nintendo.

I should be the happiest clam in the ocean since I spent two weeks hyping up the Board 8 Factor and leaned into it heavily throughout my entire bracket but, jeez, the death of Square/Sony/anything not iconic or Nintendo is too much for even me!

- the Monika rally brought in about 3000 new voters, and they swung the results by 12% (in terms of GameFAQs vs Outsiders) which is three times higher than any other match to that point. good effort, but it wasn't nearly enough

Biggest Winners So Far in Terms of "The Board 8 Factor" (registered versus outsiders swing %) [besides Monika]

1. Pikachu +6% (ruh roh)
2. Donkey Kong +4%
3. Leon +3%
4. Ganon, Yoshi, Sunderland +2%

Zero scored a impressive +5 but we need to take that with a grain of salt because it was Rally Day. Zidane and Noctis scored +3s that day as well, which pretty much just tells us "the kind of people getting linked to the site from Doki Doki communities like Square and Mega Man less than we do." Might be useful info on D. Va or Sans days but we shouldn't be thinking about it too much otherwise.

- we're at an almost perfect split between message board posters and outsiders, floating between 50.40% and 49.10% for all matches so far (aside from Rally Day when they pushed that down by 6%)

- GameFAQs people (aka mostly Board 8) contribute 78.16% of the votes in the first five minutes, and 65.86% in the first hour. this quickly falls to 49ish% for the next 23 hours

One thing I plan to do in the near future is make registered user voting trend charts for select matches over the course of the contest to get a better idea as to the range of variance in registered user voting by hour (and time period). I also want to get an idea if the trends are different depending on whether the match happened on a weekday or weekend.

I don't plan to do these trend charts for every single match, though. Like, it would be unnecessary to do trend charts for all 4 matches in a given day when the vote totals are nearly identical across all 4 matches. So I only need to pick one match from each day.

Honestly I love Ed Bellis and all but yoblazer really fit the cohost part more and pretty much anything after Character Battle 2010 podcast was really good (except when yoblazer was unable to make it on on a handful of days)

Outside of that I'd say it's heavily guest dependent as well as dependent on what happened in the contest in the last week.

I think it's best listened pretty close to when the matches they talked about happened but it can be good to listen to the old ones to get an idea of the mindset/predictions of the board when they were recorded

To summarize we're currently dealing with

- old Square in particular
- especially when not given ideal pictures

- the rise of Nintendo
- particularly nostalgic Nintendo
- especially iconic/recognizable choices that benefit from the shared voting
- and everyone's apparently A-OK with memes (based on that darned Hand)

If Kefka manages to overcome an entire year's worth of trends to pull this one out, I'll be shocked and super duper impressed. And yes I realize his whole thing is to never make sense but jeez, this would be truly next level even for him!

Sony's looked good in all its matches. It just hadn't had many. In fact Kratos is the only true Sony character so far and he looked pretty beastly.

Our registered voter percentage for the first 5 days of the contest - 50.18%, 50.39%, 44.38%, 49.11%, 49.22%

Those first 2 days being over 50% might be an outlier more than anything else. We might just have more outsiders voting after finding out about the contest on this site, and this could lead an increase in outsiders voting regularly. The Monika rally probably helped propel this increase.

Although we've also seen an increase in registered voters since averaging 8723 voters on Day 2 of the contest. We've already jumped up to an average of 9811 registered voters in yesterday's matches, an increase of about 1100 voters from our low point on Day 2.
