Not sure exactly when it happened.

I noticed it's getting harder to find certain videos because the default search (relevance) is prioritizing mainstream media outlets.

And this:

Information panel providing topical context
Note: This feature is currently available only in the United States.
Users may see information from third parties, including Encyclopedia Britannica and Wikipedia, alongside videos on a small number of well-established historical and scientific topics that have often been subject to misinformation online, like the moon landing.

An information panel providing topical context may appear in search results or on the Watch page of videos. It will include basic, independent third party information about a given topic, and will link to the third party partners website to allow viewers to learn more about the topic.

This information panel will appear alongside videos related to the topic, regardless of the opinions or perspectives expressed in the videos.

I found this while watching moon landing videos and yes, they really do put it on everything.

You would think this is a nice feature to augment youtube but it gets patronizing after awhile.

Youtube has been a bit redundant since the HTML5 <video> tag became a thing. Surprised the adpocalypse didn't kill it completely.

Revelation34, my problem with the articles is that you can't assume the role of an adult, click "I understand" and turn them off/opt out.

Kind of authoritarian but at least they aren't Pokemon devs that knows what's best for you.

I haven't seen these articles on anything else but I guess there's also the potential for abuse.

People like to talk about what Google broke, but they don't like to talk about the serious usability problems Google fixed. There was a time when you could not find a video on Youtube, even knowing its exact title. Being bought by a company known for its search engine sorted that shit out.

Google buying it isn't what ruined YouTube, it's when they forced people to use a google account when everything went off the deep end... Not that is was much better a couple years preceding that event.

On the plus side, Google is *finally* shutting down Google+ so we don't have to deal with that nonsense. All it took was a major security breach.

And this is exactly why Youtube sucks now. Back in the day, it was a place where everyone had a fair chance, everyone had a shot at being noticed and having their content appreciated. Now, startup channels are lucky if they get any traffic at all.
