watched Bad Times at the El Royale

not straight horror but sort of mystery thriller

really good overall. kind of a weak ending but consistently great performances and beautiful set design and cinematography

like i always thought it was a given that face was "the best"

but the question is about finding which of the two ancient forces that are eternally in battle burns in your soul

so I finished season 1 of Channel Zero (Candle Cove)

Pros:
-Really solid horror imagery
-Interesting concept
-Generally just very creepy

Cons:
-Inconsistent acting (would sometimes jump to super overacting out of nowhere)
-Characters were mostly bland and forgettable
-Somehow felt like it was dragging despite only being 6 episodes

I almost feel like this would've been better as a movie than as a show. It started strong but then took weirdly long to not really go anywhere until the end

I will agree the characters in season 1 are definitely boring, which is something the other seasons improve on greatly in my opinion. It's why it's the weakest season for me. Still though, I hate the goddamn tooth monster, gives me the damn chills.

Just watched Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer and Venom

Venom's not really horror (which I expected but it was still pretty disappointing given how it was initially speculated). Solid enough movie. It handles the symbiote action really well even if the story's pretty flat. Forgot how nice it was to watch superhero movies that weren't trying to force themselves into a cinematic universe.

Henry was deeply unsettling and almost hard to watch at times, but I'd say that's what makes it as good as it is. Rooker is excellent and Henry himself may land a spot among my favorite horror villains.

I felt like that was a movie that couldn't make up its mind on what it wanted to be. They had a pretty creepy story going just with the whole snuff film plot. Making it all be the work of the Illuminati threw it all way into Dumbland

Trying to decide between Suspiria or Overlord for our second movie of the month on Sinemia.

But tonight we finished watching Channel Zero: Dream Door! Definitely the best season, for sure. It has the issue where it falls apart at the end, but only very very slightly and in a way that you just want a little tiny bit more from it than you got. Other than that, man. Good season. I hope it gets another season.

I picked up The Painscreek Killings since it was on sale. That was really fun. Kind of daunting in that it gives you a bare minimum of in-game notes and fully expects you to keep your own, but I am the kind of lunatic who enjoys having a notebook full of blurbs on videogame characters trying to piece together who killed who
