It's just that when I want to vent about how sad my life is, my mother is just going to complain that her life is even sadder, and it's just going to make me feel worse. I know she has a right to complain that her life is utter and complete crap, like I've said many, many times before, but I just can't help but feel that I have no one to vent to about my personal life troubles. All she wants me to be is happy. She expects too much of me; I can't be happy all the time, and I am rarely happy ever. She doesn't want to hear about how miserable I am; she wants to hear about how how happy I am. And I know I've vented about how unsatisfied I am with my life on here before, so I'm very sorry about that. Anyway, do you think it's healthy to snap at my own mother when I get irritated at her for telling me that she has it worse than me?

It's ok to be angry but you should mend things quickly. What if she died and the last time you communicated it was a bad argument?

Just do what i do. Vent to people who are less important to you. Your poor mother just wants to see you happy again, like she remembers you as a young child. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither will be your happiness.

That being said, there's only so much happiness you can get from your mother. The best remedy for depression is the loving arms of a woman. I say, do everything in your power to fix yourself up, and the cute girls will start to notice.

My mother is like that too, so I don't really open up to her that much except for the rare times when I really need to. She seems better at handling it now that its less frequent.

Try to avoid the mindset that its either you or your mother that's in the wrong, and try to find someone else to vent with. Even if it means talking to a professional.

I think youve got some real stuff going on and that some behavioral counseling would help you learn some tools and different ways of looking at things to make you a healthier person mentally and improve your quality of life.

Maybe she isnt helping but it sounds like your mother loves you and cares about you, yelling at her wont help anything.

I love my mom, but she presses my buttons more than anyone else. My wife thought I was kind of a jerk to her when we met, but then after a while she was like "now I get it!"

Big deal, I tried to break my mothers fingers one time. Then we didnt talk for like a decade. (That happened like 10 years after the finger incident.)

I also got pissed at her one time and called her every word under the sun, including the big C. It was her fault, and she ended up doing what she originally promised that she tried recanting on.

Perhaps she too wants to unload her frustrations or at least try to make you know that most folk have shit they deal with in life that makes them sad and there is always someone worse and better off than you.

That certainly would suck man. I'm fortunate enough to have a brother around my age who I can share things with as he does me. I mean it's got to be a two way street afterall. Also even though he's a pain at times I also vent things to my dad and listen to his problems too. It's different to vent to my dad than it is to my bro though as my bro is more close to my age group thus can relate more. Still I'm not always venting as that would not only bum myself out further but probably bum them out more too when they too have their own issues.

It's unhealthy keeping all your frustrations with life built up so you for sure need a outlet. Everyone does to be honest. Your mum however can only do so much and most mums want there kids to be happy. Maybe if all else fails a professional might help. However I also believe you should be grateful for the good things you've got in your life too. You've got a job, are studying and have a mum who clearly cares about you. It's not all doom and gloom man.

I've been told that it's inadvisable to seek out a relationship if one of the participants of that relationship is horribly mentally screwed-up.

I don't know why it's hard to appreciate the good things in life. Is it because I put too much emphasis on friendships and my lack thereof?

Nothing really makes me happy anymore, and it's hard to deny that having friends would alleviate some of my misery. I mean, what's the point of life if there is no one to enjoy it with?

Get therapy. Complaining to your mom over and over about the same stuff without actually trying to fix it doesn't help. You just end up more miserable because you focus on being miserable. You need professional help to teach you to focus on how to change things instead of just wallowing in it. Wallowing in it and whining is easy. But it doesn't get you anywhere. Your mom is probably just sick and tired of hearing about it over and over.

No, but I think you are one for hiding in those poor kids' closets and under their beds.
