Today class we will look at ways to save money and eat like a king....while spending like those filthy peasants!!!

T-bone steaks are always a good value pretty much, you get a filet mignion portion and a NY strip portion. Even at full price these steaks usually cost about as much as just buying the filet would (the entire rest is basically free). On sale, it's often much better since filet mignion doesn't actually go on sale much.

This week, max packs of T-bones are 5.99 a pound at Safeway (for me, it varies from area to area). Therefore I went in today and bought a 4 pack for $30. Now....one trick/tip is to actually have the person working there open the package so you can see all the steaks.

Often they will hide steaks with very small filet portions under the initial steak. Have them open it up, and go through it, and if they are bad, replace them with good ones from the ones on display. This way every steak has a nice large filet portion.

Now I realize when you are younger you might eat a whole T-bone (or even need to), but honestly the way I do it makes for very nice meals. I cut off the filet from 2 of the T-bones and make that into a meal, then I do the NY strips individually as others. This gives you a total of 6 full meals from 1 package of steak (average of $5, but that is before sides etc).

I often freeze the NY strip (or even thinly slice it ahead of time) as it's the perfect steak to use for stir fry/mongolian BBQ. It also means you don't need to freaking eat steak 6 nights in a row (not that it has ever bothered me to do so).

Not everyone knows about T-bones. I see people buying NY strip steaks that are not on sale (and more expensive because of that) when a T-bone is right next to it.

This has actually made a difference for people in real life once they found out, so I figured I'd post it on here as well:)

Idk why, but I've never been a fan of Steak. Like, some people go crazy over it. But it's probably one of my least favorite meats, of the ones I've eaten. Salisbury Steak is worse, though... I nearly throw up just smelling it...

And shrimp would kill me...

Diff between $6 a pound (and I hunt for the big filet portions), and $12+ a pound.

I general go in this order for steaks, based on the sale price.

Rib Eye (my favorite)
T-Bone (best value usually)
Tri-Tip ($5 or less and still good)

Very rarely there will be something else with a good deal. I never do Sirlion though.
