My post was entirely on memory; there's a handful of good cast members I couldn't think of. There are also women involved I couldn't remember the names of so be sure to call me sexist as well.

Leftists who don't like that he doesn't agree with them, and racists who don't like him cause he's black, have one major thing in common... they're just gonna have to suck it up and deal with 8 years of Kanye as president.

That "great cast" only sort of overlapped. Carvey had left the show by the time Norm joined, Rock was fired about the same time, and Sandler & especially Spade took awhile to find their feet.

Chris Rock didn't really blow up on SNL either. He got much bigger a few years later doing stand up-- Bring the Pain led to his HBO show, both of which were awesome.

And as much as I enjoyed Tim Meadows, not mentioning Phil Hartman is an even bigger sin.

Regardless, the first 5 years had Belushi, Aykroyd, Murray, Radner, & Chase. That tops the early 90s cast, even though I was 12 right around then, as action suggested.

The Bill Hader/Kristen Wig run was solid

I feel like SNL is played out. It's way past run it's course and is generally the same humor over and over again except it's not even so bad it's funny anymore. Their golden years are way behind them. They had a spike with Andy Samberg and then it all went sort of downhill in general.

Look, I came of age in the Carvey/Meyers/Hartman era, so that will always be my favorite. But there have been plenty of funny people who came from the show after that. Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, Andy Samberg (and the rest of Lonely Island of course), Bobby Moynihan, Tracy Morgan, Maya Rudolph... probably there are plenty more I'm forgetting. But some absolutely brilliant comedians have been on that show since the days I watched it regularly. And I'm sure plenty more funny people will be on the show in the years to come.

I am also sure there will be old people complaining that the show isn't funny anymore, just like some of my aunts and uncles complained that it wasn't funny anymore when I was watching it. Only the first five "not ready for prime time players" seasons are funny to them. Of course it wasn't everybody--my parents still enjoyed it, even though they weren't their favorites. So it's possible to be an old person who likes old things without dismissing everything that comes after.

I'm glad that I'm more like them.
