I did this when I first started and it's great, but it also doesn't solve tapping X on the horse which is the main issue.

There unfortunately doesn't seem to be anyway to make that better outside of not mashing too much.

I actually had the "toggle to run" set, unfortunately it only affects on foot and not the horses.

That FPS mode trick is nice though, I'll see how that feels

The game has decided blindsiding me with O'Driscoll ambushes while I'm on the way to Valentine is the way to go. They killed my horse, then me a half second later. Of course, my horse went from near full stamina to completely drained in no time (I guess they think brushing it three or four times in a row isn't enough brushing). Now I've got to start bonding with a new horse, because of course I do. If the developers wanted me to hate some bad guys, they've succeeded.

82/90 challenges complete. 4 more I can do now then that'll be in until the Epilogue. Can't finish Herbalist 9 or Horseman 9 until then.

oh wait you can get Horseman 9 earlier but you need to stock up on tons of health potions to drink on your ride to blackwater

You can get Horseman 10 done early too because there's a chance for any horse (that's required) to spawn at random in the wild, but some of the breeds have very low spawn rates in the beginning areas. The Hungarian Half-Bred most notably took me forever to find.

I tried to make my Red Dead Online dude look like Bullock from Deadwood, and I mostly failed because the hair/facial hair selection sucks for multiplayer.

Well, can't say I was expecting the game to go in the direction it did starting in Chapter 5.

I've made it to Chapter 3. I'm not fond of missions that tell you that you need to get the one last fleeing bad guy, and in the process fail to put them on the radar or give some indication where they're running. But I'm happy that they finally gave me something valuable to sell so I can pay off my bounty and go hunt some more.

By the way, is there any reason to stop the lawmen who are transporting prisoners or bounty hunters with prisoners?

Finished up the 4 Hunting requests you can do SPENT 2 GOD DAMN HOURS TRYING TO FIND A 3 STAR SKUNK AND WHEN I DO I ACCIDENTALLY SHOT IT WITH MY BOLT ACTION RIFLE AND NOT MY VARMINT RIFLE

Luckily it only took 10 minutes to find another

The prisoner transports can give you at least one Home Robbery tip. I don't know whether it's the case that the one(s) you get from there have to be gotten from there. It also balances out the Honor loss and gain between killing the lawmen and releasing the prisoner, because why not. I think you can shoot the lock on the back without killing the lawmen for an honor boost once you're not getting tips from prisoners anymore, but I end up with at least a $5 bounty just for doing that that you can completely avoid by just killing the lawmen from the start.

The bounty hunter transport is almost entirely pointless afaik. No reward for releasing the prisoner. Strangely I've read you can get an honor boost by killing the bounty hunters and then taking the bounty in yourself, but I have only gotten this encounter once so I haven't tried it myself.

finally started playing this after completing the spyro trilogy. absolute loving it. probably the most immersive open world game yet? I feel like I'm a decent way through chapter 2 but I try to do all the side missions I notice. haven't really gone to any of the areas outside of the story path so far though.

A lot of side missions wait until the story takes you to the area, some don't. At least one chain in Valentine doesn't even start until well past Chapter 2, so it's kind of a crap shoot.

I don't think any are missable, though in the case of one of the Strauss collections I had actually killed the target on my own while exploring so I just had to search the guy's house. Nice of them not to cut it off entirely for me.

(Friend activities that originate in camp are super missable, though. Those basically are tied to the chapter they appear in. Do those asap whenever you see them.)

try not to explore too much outside of the area you're currently in

I hear people go too far out during chapter 2 and ruin their story/side mission experiences when they get to those other places when the story moves because they did side/stranger missions out of order

I also got to Saint Denis early, right after I first got to Lemoyne. Bounty hunters chased me all the way there and then shot me dead in the city

you should definitely fight bounty hunters instead of running

riding around in circles while shooting them with your repeaters make short work of them

I don't get this game. I'm clearly doing something wrong but I don't know what.

Civilians are scared of me all the time.

Most recently, I just had a stranger mission. A man rode by me on a horse with a woman tied up on the back screaming for help.

I lassoed the man off his horse, calmed his horse so it stopped running, grabbed the woman off the back of the horse and cut off her ropes.

She then stood up, turned to look at me, screamed "Not you too!" and ran away full speed.

I don't suspect that is how that was supposed to end but have no idea what I did.
