I don't know. 60's Adam West 'dorky Batman and Robin' is one of our most well loved Batman representations

I don't think you understood the Adam West show. It was very ingenious farce. It'd be like saying Airplane! was a great disaster movie.

like the Lego Batman

And this is basically farce too EDIT: Parody, I mean

Batman and Superman don't belong in the same cinematic universe. It just makes Batman dorkier and Superman darker. No one wants that.

There's hundreds of stories that prove otherwise

It works in comic book stories. Not in movies that work best carrying a certain visual motif and tone. Mix it all together and it looks shitty.

It was fine. If it came out a decade ago (before the Avengers) it would have made like a billion dollars.

The problem is that people feel like the DC movies need to be as built up as the Marvel movies, but thats never been DC's forte, so it didn't work out well cramming everything together, and it was Avengers 1 when people (and WB) were looking for Avengers 3

I think DC should go back to how their old comics worked, where everyone just did their own thing. Every once in a while, if Batman was having a lot of trouble, Superman might come and help, but that was isolated from whatever Supes was doing at the time (as if you didn't need to read 900 comic books so you could follow the story)

It's been done twice by a bad director. The medium doesn't determine whether or not it works, it's the competence of the person telling the story.

A movie can't both be Serpico and His Girl Friday at the same time. Trying to mix tones like that is like dunking cookies in Worcestershire sauce. It doesn't matter how good the chef is, it's not going to made tasty unless you change either of those things to be something they are not. Everything has to be a cinematic universe now, it's a hip thing (and Hollywood loves it because then they can sell you at the end of every movie, instead of giving you a true ending). But if DC actually wants to challenge Marvel, they should do it by making great, standalone movies of different tones. You know, like it worked all of those years before they saw Marvel and then changed everything.

you're too focused on the movie instead of a story. A Superman/Batman film doesn't have to go full sad or ultra bright.

It does unless you want every character to come off like they're the same flavor. One thing I liked about Wonder Woman was that it didn't really sell the cinematic universe that hard, and seemed like it was trying for its own thing. Then she got wrapped up in the big story and became a prostitute. "But if we had a good person, it would work!"... just keep putting the quarter in the slot machine, DC. Never learn.

Just because you can't understand how to write a group of characters with different personalities doesn't mean it's impossible, and using JL as proof does not help your argument

My point is DC repeatedly doesn't understand it, so why keep trying as if everything has to be like Marvel when in the past, not being Marvel scored you movies that were some of the biggest blockbusters of all time.

Just the whole idea that all their movies have to tie together like in the comic books. They are premised on the same marketing gimmicks, except DC does them terribly. But just keep rolling that dice, ignore the fact that you can have successful movies without the EU bullshit, gotta hit black sometime...

You'd have to be a little dense to not see that DC didn't just "suddenly" come up with the movie tie-in idea right around the time Marvel made a billion off of the concept.

You'd have to be dense to think a shared comic universe is something the MCU invented. Especially in a world where the DCAU existed.

To be fair, I think the general consensus was not that it was terrible. Rather that it was a mediocre movie that utterly failed to repair the damage done by the other DC movies.

They didn't invent it, but that's not my argument. DC didn't suddenly shift their movie strategy without at all thinking about how MCU was a thing. They wanted part of the action. To think it all just came about independently is bizarre.
