I think the main flaw is his script writing/speaking voice, but the actual content that he provides is top notch. The information is worthwhile enough that you can put aside the presentation issues.

I don't think he's saying any of this matters. I think there's an element of "the human condition" in the video that's incredibly interesting--persistence, obsession, patience. Someone summed it up really well by saying how slamming into a wall over and over is basically a metaphor for speedrunning as a whole... And I think that works as an analog for a lot of jobs/activities we all have to do every day that can feel futile at times.

Yeah I don't think he's saying this is super important but it is awesome and wonderful that the persistence and achievements of these guys over the course of two decades was documented by somebody.

So like yeah, it's a single track in an N64 kart racing game, but to these guys it was super important. And that's all that matters.

Just watched the whole thing. That was an amazingly well-documented history of a MK64 track that I've hardly ever paid any attention to. I enjoyed the music as well, so it was a very fun watch.

power sliding is what you do to activate a miniturbo

I thought it was called sliding unless you did it enough to do the thing we're calling a miniturbo, at which point it became a power slide.

you can just hop and angle the kart for a regular slide. power sliding is when you waggle the stick back and forth while sliding to turn the smoke yellow and then red. then once it's red, you can end the slide to activate a miniturbo.

i think lucid had the any% WR for the NES ghosts 'n goblins in like '04. not sure if it was for 2 loops or 1 loop.
