One I mostly buy new and two I'm selective with the games I buy so I don't buy that many, so I rather pay for the advantages of digital. Game streaming though, at least PSNow on PC is pretty cheap. I pay $45 for access to around 600 games every three months.

It's $45 every three months on PC (so about $15 a month), and you get access to around 600 games (granted they aren't all brand new). You need to use wired Internet though and set up a few things.

That may only be on the PS4 itself, the $99 a year. I couldn't find it for the PC subscription, they are two separate subscriptions as far as I know.

Where I work items put specifically on hold stay on hold for at most one day unless the person calls us to extend it another one or unless the store specifically agrees with the customer to hold it for two when the hold is placed.

We're upfront about this though, at least?

Yeah, it is. I get plenty of customers daily who don't read obvious signs.

It's in clear, large text that clearance items are final price and won't take any sort of coupon.

80% of the customers will still try to coupon clearance items and half of them will get angry when they don't work. It's not even about fine print; most people don't read clear and obvious print.

I always remember it being this way everywhere for opened media. I remember I was in the DVD section of Barnes and Noble one time many years ago (I'll say about 12 years ago) and there was a father there with a boy who was probably about 10 screaming at a manager to give him a refund on a King of the Hill box set because it was inappropriate for the kid. I think they finally broke store policy and let him swap it for a different show. I think they ended up settling on Futurama (and i bet the same thing happened again a week later)

I played AC:O on project stream for like 8 hours. It was honestly very impressive and worked really well for AC. After 5-10 mins you really forget it's a stream.

But then I played a local game and remembered what 1080p 60fps is really like. It's not comparable at all. If you just have some crappy laptop, then the streaming is awesome for sure. But I have a PC that can run things so it's not worth it.

To me the trade offs are worth it. It's like when HD came out I cared more about youtube 240p. Even fighting games are still playable at I think the 30 fps they deliver (and 720p) on PSNow. The stuff is only going to get better too I would assume, and once they advance to 60 fps 1080p they can take their time upgrading beyond that since everything will still look really good and I don't think I'm going to care too much about going beyond 4k HDR 60fps (unless I really get into VR or AR).

I'm also keeping an eye on project stream, there will probably be some interesting stuff that comes out of there. From what I know about it, you are right, it does run pretty smooth, just like PSNow.

Edit: Also btw I have a Surface Pro 3 and a gaming laptop from a few years ago, but neither are or were truly up to spec to play full on modern games. You still need to have some base specs for game streaming to work good though, and this stuff works well for me.

Edit 2: Though I also like the idea of playing on a fairly low end laptop at the lowest settings recommenced, we have some in our house.

Tried to buy a Fortnite: Save The World there in person. They told me the game doesn't exist. So, I bought it online.

That's about all my GameStop interaction for the past few years. I used to buy used games there, but I realized I can buy them brand new usually cheaper than their used prices a lot if I just kept my eyes open. Plus, I was fucking pissed I bought Infinite Undiscovery used from them like 5 years back when I purchased like 4 used games at once there. When I got to infinite Undiscovery after a couple of the others, it would only load the main menu and nothing else. The game didn't work. I asked them to exchange it for another copy of the game that worked. They basically told me to go fuck myself in nicer words. So, that was the end of that.

Meanwhile, the dev gets at most $15 from your $60 purchase, while gamestop continues to churn the used sales for $30 profit each, which despite being an absurdly high margin still doesn't come close to saving their decrepit outdated business.

I'd rather lose the $12 so the dev can get triple the money from my purchase instead of dumping into the giant dumpster fire that is gamestop. Not to mention the frequent digital sales which defeat any trade in benefits, and the free return policies on Steam and Itch. (Side note: buy on itch.io so the dev gets 100% of the money.)

I used to strictly buy physical to avoid hdd space issues, and still do on Switch for this, but once Xbox and Playstation just started having you install the full games, anyway, I go digital if there's a good sale.

I do still like the feeling of having something physical and knowing I could sell it if I wanted, but it's not a must have thing with me anymore, just a preference.

All games are digital so all you can choose is which disk it's downloaded onto, your hard drive or the one with some art on it. If you really want the art then fine but it's no more physical than than the hard drive.
