I decided to make a "general" topic series about the TV frachises Survivor and Big Brother. This first topic is a personal reference to me which is relevant because ImTheMacheteGuy, and machetes are an important staple for the castaways on the show Survivor to function and survive while living out in the elements. In some seasons, sub-plots have revolved around machetes in fact. In season 6, one contestant was considered creepy by some of his tribemates because he spent a lot of time sharpening the tribe's machete. In another season, a fire broke out in a tribe's camp when they were away for a challenge and claimed the life of their machete, causing hardship.

(note: if and when this fills up, feel free to make a new topic. The next set of paragraphs between the --s should be included in the topic title. I will personally keep track of the tag list and post changes accordingly for now)

In any case, this topic series to discuss Survivor, Big Brother and any similar competition-based reality shows. Please, at least for now, use spoiler tags, even for old seasons, when referencing any sensitive information in case any users unfamiliar with these shows wander in and take interest. Discussion of other shows of any similar format is welcomed. Discussion of competitions based on these shows is welcomed, especially if they are relevant to this board or site (such as The Epic Struggle which is hosted on gamefaqs and Minecraft Mole, a youtube series in which at least 2 gamefaqs users have been contestants). Also note that while Survivor is essentially known as an American TV show, this topic is also about international versions, including Australia, South Africa and New Zealand, as well as ongoing international Big Brother series such as BBCan(ada) and BB UK, and any cancelled editions of any such international versions such as Survivor UK and Big Brother Australia. It would be appreciated if you would specify which version you are discussing in your posts if you are not discussing the US versions. Feel free to specify US also especially if you are outside the US and have complaints that US versions are not the original versions >_> (they aren't, but I'm American and so is gamefaqs, so "America by default" it is. Sorry if that's an issue).

We are currently halfway through US Survivor season 37. Big Brother has completed 20 seasons and a new Celebrity Big Brother (US) will be taking place early next year.

Most recently on US Survivor, Dan was voted out after he correctly played his hidden immunity idol. In an unprecedented tribal council, the first ever "idol nullifier" advantage was played and Dan's idol was voided, making votes against him count even though he played an immunity idol, which would otherwise have cancelled all votes against him

You may be right, but I don't really bother or care about many other boards, including those, so I felt like I'd just make a series here because this is the main board I visit. B8 has a topic series but moves more slowly tbh and I did follow it for a while but then lost track. Could be more active here. That's the goal.

Most of UK is on youtube... however, with so many season and daily episodes, it has literally taken me a few years to watch all of it, so they could potentially have been taken down since. It's a different format, public vote (like US BB1). It takes some getting used to, but it works. AU is the same way (also on youtube. I'm currently on season 3). The first UK season is a bit of a snoozefest. The cast is weak compared to later seasons but there are a few good characters. A lot of it is cringey and they have a lot of side-show nonsense like a segment where they parody the housemates with guinea pigs and the story is told by kids dressed like scientists. It's dumb. There is also no music, barely any commentary and the aesthetics of the house itself are trash. Season 2 is great though. Seasons 3-6 very from meh to decent. Season 7 is an absolute clusterfuck of huge characters and is possibly the best season ever. It is the debut season of Nikki Graehm (not sure of spelling of surname), who went on to also participate in "Ultimate Big Brother" which was a hybrid of BB and Celebrity BB, had several other reality shows of her own and then was voted into BB Canada 4 as one of two "international" houseguests. She wasn't even the biggest character on her initial season in the UK, and by the time she was on BBCan4, she had mellowed out a lot and was sort of a diet version of her original self... and yet she is the most over-the-top character in BBCan history hands down >_>. In fact, Canadian audiences probably thought she was just playing a character because she was just that unbelievable as a real person, but having watched her when she was younger and more unhinged in her BB UK days... yeah, she wasn't acting for a second lol. BBCan4's other international houseguest was Tim from a season of BB AU that I have yet to watch. 2 others were eligible but did not get the public votes to join. One was Jase from US BB5/7.

UK BB8 had a strange initial format, but turned into a very solid season as well, and the show has maintained its quality since imo.

BBCan has had a few twists and gimmicks that I haven't cared for, but ultimately has been pretty solid. Dailymotion is a good site for it.

Hadn't seen a Survivor episode in years and randomly tuned in to see the last one and the nullifier was one of the coolest little additions they could have put in the show.

They've been trying out various twists like that for a number of seasons now but usually they are not utilized properly.

Yeah, it's derived from scapegoat, but I do believe that term is derived from a concept involving actual goats. I don't think there have ever been wild goats killed in the show. I know a wild pig was killed, and chickens won in rewards always end up being eaten (with one extremely notable exception where a rooster was kept as a pet, given a name, appeared with a castaway in some of his confessionals and was released back into the wild at tribal council one night).

The new seasons focus too much on strategy than the experience
I remember in the good old days when someone won a reward we would get like ten minutes of the episode showing them enjoying it and talking about it
Now they just cut back to strategy talk which makes the show feel.more hollow and soulless

Anyway I wanted Dan to win
And gizzy in hells kitchen
In a single week I lost both of the people I was rooting for in different shows

i could easily see gabby making it to the final 3 just because she isnt good at challenges and doesnt have a forceful personality

basically she can skirt by because there is always a bigger threat than gabby
but the problem is that it would be really hard for her to win unless the other 2 were completely hated by the jury

i do find gabby overemotional but it doesnt annoy me as much as it could
from the gabby cut aways i get that she has the idea of how to play the game properly but lacks the social skills to do it right which i understand would be incredibly frustrating
