It is really simple. Just post each time you beat a game throughout the year and the platform you played it on. Do not hesitate to add some discussion in regards to the games you or others beat.

At the bottom of this post is a link to a Google word doc that you are free to edit to immortalize your gaming accomplishments. Feel free to tinker with your color and font options, but do know that users are supposed to be in alphabetical order.

Well, there's no way the last topic was going to last through the end of the year, so we might as well have presumably the final topic up now.

Omensight (PC)

Had no idea this was a spiritual successor. Might play the previous one.

Anyways, it's a time travel plot so repetition is expected. I'm suddenly having Radiant Historia flashbacks but to a more annoying degree as there are only essentially 6 dungeons that just loop over and over with the difference being who's accompanying you and what the plot's after. But, because it's time travel, I guess I can excuse it. In the very least, combat was very satisfying and challenging so that kept me entertained. The story itself was average, but the way it was told through these perspectives and characters was nice.

The ending was...interesting. In a twist to these kinds of games, everyone still dies even if you technically save the world from an abomination because the kingdom was already at war

Ranma 1/2: Chounai Gekitou Hen (Super Famicom)

We got this game over in the West under the name Street Combat.
All they really did was change up the story, character sprites, music and a few background changes.

Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon (Game Boy)

Played this via the 2DS XL.
I was going in with mild expectations and unfortunately I ended up not liking the game. Quite possibly the worst game in the series (of what I played from the series).
You only get 1 life and no continues.
You can only move in 4 directions and using Goemon, Ebisumaru and Sasuke makes no difference as they all play the same. Coins and Shurikens can only be found in chests.
You go from screen to screen looking for a key item to proceed to the next area and finally to the boss.

After you beat a boss, you are suddenly challenged to a Surprise Match against the boss you defeated, a mini game.
Unless you looked it up in the manual/guide, they don't really give you in game instructions on how to use the controls in some of them. You only get one shot at the mini game and if you lose, game over. You get taken back to the title screen and have to start all over again unless you use a password (which is terrible. It's one of those password systems where it's just character objects/faces). Hot garbage right there and the ending wasn't even any good.

I have mixed feelings about the campaign for The Last of Us. It was definitely a case that they cared more about the story than the gameplay/interactive element, which I am not really a fan of and held the game back, but the multiplayer is great.

TLoU pulled on my heartstrings the first time I played it. I don't think I can harshly criticize its gameplay as much. But I can be harsher to its sequel if it proves to be more of the same thing

Azure Striker Gunvolt (3DS)

The story didn't really interest me much until near the end.
Was a little annoyed I had to look for 7 Jewels after you get the bad ending until you get the true ending.

I disliked how the Challenge system was set up. I hated the fact that they can't be passive but you have to select them manually and can only pick up to 3 Challenges at once.

Those things aside, Game was really solid. It had that Mega Man X thing going for it and the whole "tagging enemies with your shots than zapping them with Flashfield" mechanic was neat along with Prevasion (cool way of dodging).

Using the touch screen to activate your Skills took some time getting used to but it was all good to have them right where you wanted them.

Mighty Gunvolt (3DS)

This game was really short but also really fun.
Was a very good Mega Man Classic 8-Bit styled game.

Beck...was kinda lame. He really felt like a poor knock off of Mega Man himself. His dash mechanic was nothing special.

Gunvolt was solid. Liked the double jump and the way he used his electricity was alright, being able to direct it's direction upwards and downwards.

Ekoro surprised me on how fun she was to use. She can hover and she can shoot arrows at a rapid pace. It was also fun using her Lock On shot to convert enemies into Gradius style'd Options to fight by your side temporarily.

Gunvolt > Ekoro > Beck

Manual Samuel for PC

Normally, I don't think that I would go for this kind of game, but it was so stupidly goofy that I couldn't help but want to see it to the end. I could do without hearing "feces" every other sentence, and that final boss was a slog to get through, but I had a great time.

Mickey to Donald Magical Adventure 3 (Super Famicom)

This is the third game in the Magical Quest series. This game also eventually got ported to the West for the Game Boy Advance.

You play as Mickey and/or Donald as they travel inside Storyland to rescue Huey, Dewey and Louie from King Pete.

Game can be played solo as either of the characters or in 2 player co-op.

Game is really fun.
The costume outfits both Mickey and Donald get are fun against the enemies and bosses.

I like that both characters get different costumes and some of them have a few differences.

Mickey gets a knight costume with a javelin that has a boxing glove at the end of it and a shield to block some projectiles. It can't be used in water cause you'll sink to the bottom. Donald wears a barrel that can float in the water and even block a few attacks. He can also roll in it and uses a hammer to attack.

The Climber outfit can be used to rope objects and enemies like a whip. Mickey has a longer rang while it seems Donald has shorter ranger. By holding up on the D-Pad, you can also be used to climb up vines/pillars/zip lines to get around and proceed. That mechanic took me some time to get used to.

The Magic outfit allows Mickey to shoot magical birds at enemies that can do various actions like stun them, turn them into items and there are objects you can shoot at to turn them into platforms. Donald wears an Arabian style outfit and does the same thing except he uses a Magic Lamp but it's a little slower.

One neat little detail that I kinda liked was Donald gets a unique hit animation where after he gets hit, he does his fit of anger shtick that he is most famous for. lol...

Shadow of the Tomb Raider (PC)

Ehhh. It could've been better. On the plus side, there were more exploration and puzzles. The combat was crappy which honestly wasn't so bad. What I hated was that the villain of the trilogy that was so built up in the 2nd game turned out to die in a cutscene and offscreen. It did all these "improvements" but, it just messes up whatever character Lara has left.

This honestly never really needed a trilogy. The first one was enough and it was the best. Rise and Shadow should've just been "after" the prologue to Tomb Raider, it would've been so much better.

Goddamnit, I want my badass Lara Croft back. Maybe I'll play the 2000 trilogy again sometime. Or the original 2013 Tomb Raider.

Trip World (Game Boy)

This game is only available in Japan and Europe which is a shame cause this could of easily been very accepted over in the West.

Game was made by Sunsoft so I already knew I was in for some quality.

I couldn't really tell you what goes on in the story as there's only an intro and an ending unless you looked it up. The intro and ending are very nice for the record.

You play as Yakopoo, some weird looking cute...rabbit...thing and you can shape shift into two forms. Initially you can move, jump and kick while in your other 2 forms you can fly temporally and turn into a fish form that is useful underwater and can shoot bubbles as a means to attack. There are other temporary forms you can get when you pick up certain flowers.

One form gives you a Flower on your head and allows you to shoot seeds to temporarily stun enemies, one form can turn you into a ball form (which works very similar to Ball Kirby's form from Kirby's Adventure), a Tail form which gives you a tail you can use like a whip, a tall form where you get long legs and able to shoot fireballs and finally you can take on a mini form which basically makes you small but works the same as your normal form and a useless mega form where you're just big.

Interesting to note that you don't take contact damage from most enemies and bosses unless they obviously do an attack. You can even jump some enemies to use as platforms.

Game is very short. Only 5 levels but it was mildly challenging but it has some very good music and it was fun. I recommend checking it out if you like anything from Sunsoft.

Call of Duty: United Offensive

Ahh simpler humbler times. I miss these games. And I thought Modern Warfare was going to change everything. I like how the credits to this expansion continued from the credits of the original CoD. The missions were also better and more grand a scale although the final Russian level was kind of lame.

Lumino City for PC

This kind of dragged on to where I probably prefer the brief Lume, but I still enjoyed this. All the puzzles were stuff that you've seen before, some a little too obtuse, but obviously the highlights of the game are its presentation, animation (it is mostly stop-motion paper), and music.

That can only get you so far, so this is really only recommended for those who are fans of the genre and don't get easily frustrated with puzzles.

Depth Hunter 2 for PC

I was kind of surprised to see the message popping up that I beat the campaign as there were two whole areas that I never touched. I guess those were DLC?

I have always been wanting to play one of these games. I have always been fascinated with the ocean and originally studied marine biology. Of course, I imagine there is less exploration and biodiversity than a game like Endless Ocean, and your main mission type is of the hunting variety, but I will take any virtual ocean opportunity that I can get.

Mystery Case Files: Rewind (PC)

You know there was a time when HOGs were really difficult. And I was so excited when this game was first announced. Time-limits are back, none of that pseudo-pt click adventure bullshit, and trips to past games. Yeah, I should've known that they would only bring back the most recent ones and some iconic ones although surprisingly they brought back the bad guy from the first game ever. Initially the HOG was amazing; it was the early games all over again. But there was a flaw in the design. See, every object you found wouldn't come back in the next scene and alot of scenes were re-used. So, the game actually got easier the further you went by process of elimination.

It pisses me off that BigFish proves they could still make a good HOG but refuses on the principle of attracting more "casual" fans of the series.

And I'll agree the premise was very interesting. I didn't think the entire freaking movie would take place on a laptop. Had to do wonders for the budget. No wonder they could afford to make a sequel!

Oddworld: New 'n' Tasty (PC)

Wow. I found out alot of things about this game series, why the devs disappeared and reappeared again in recent time. First off, this is a GREAT remake. It's not perfect. I personally don't mind the criticism behind the change in style which removed several of the tense moments in the old game. I didn't like the changes to the music though as it made the game more comedic than usual. Also, that Evanescence clone of a music video by the end was cringe. All in all, I was so glad to finally finish Oddessey as the remake had alot of sensibilities to it such as the ever-loving quiksave feature. Now I can savescum this game!

Looking forward to the true sequel Soulstorm, next year.

Nancy Drew 10: The Secret of Shadow Ranch (PC)

Fuckin' Finally! I haaate the puzzles in this game. Some of them are needlessly taxing, but most of them are just really tedious and about 50% of them are pointless seeing as they're basically chores! Also, having to ride out the ranch everytime required you to hoist your horse up. Every. Single. Time. I expected such bullshit only in a Sierra game. On the plus side, they finally went and made the game fullscreen instead of the inventory showing in the same place like oldschool adventures do. And as far as the plot goes it was yet another Scooby Doo hoax, even more lame than the Ghost Dogs. Next one should be the first actually scary one I guess. Can't wait till the game actually modernizes.

I mean I love that its a dragon quest game. The art, music and classic DQ charm was
all there but the pacing of this game was by far the worst Ive ever experienced. Even the ending took 45 minutes!

It reminds me of playing skyward sword, which to me is easily the worst Zelda game for a lot of the same reasons DQVII is the worst DQ game

It was...ok. Nothing spectacular. Nothing terrible. There's worse out there.
You can run, jump, climb up ledges. There's also stars you receive after jumping on enemies/getting them out of present boxes. You can do 2 more moves at the cost of said stars: A double jump and healing yourself. Having to use stars to do a double jump felt like a bad design choice. You can also find snowballs as temporary items to toss at your enemies.

The game could almost pass for a Halloween game: Only one boss fight in the entire game and it's against some Witch that tried to ruin Christmas.

Pokemon Yellow Version: Special Pikachu Edition
Ancient replay. This was the second time I played through the game in years since the original release. I do like that it has elements from the Anime. The ability to have Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle in one game is nice and the appearance of Jessie & James was also fun to see.
Was also fun to do the Mew Glitch for the first time.

INFRA (PC)

Wow. So this game's been around for 2 years now. I remember playing what was then known as Part 1 and kind of giving up in the middle because of how quickly batteries ran out. They've patched it since, and was surprised that it went up to 3 Parts total.

Certain technical things stop me from admitting this as my game of the year. But I will say it runs very very close a runner up. This game is beautiful. It uses the aging Steam engine to produce some absolutely realistic settings. There is simply no game like it. It's a walking sim yes, but there's no supernatural elements, no terrorists to kill. It's just you an engineer, against some rather intricate urban exploration. For the most part yes you are isolated, but I love how the game puts in the effort to ground you in reality in some places. Occasionally, you'll see people walking around. At one point you even see a bunch of them at a rally. And even though 90% of the game is isolation, the devs put the effort to fully animate these NPCs. Heck, even bothering to make them exist is a step forward from every walking sim who wants to cut corners by never showing anyone.

I've been at this for 2 weeks now I think and I didn't think it would be this long. It was starting to get senseless by the end too but I stuck through it because I wanted to see the end. There's just so much to see and hear in this game and that's not even including the secret lore if you manage to find most of the documents.

Can't wait for the DLC and apparently they have a spin-off in the works.
