Pokemon Gold

Up until then, the 151 Pokemon was all we knew and all we ever expected, like that WAS Pokemon as we knew it, so the very idea of 100 new species added to the 151 we already had blew my fucking mind at 11 years old. Also knowing that some of the existing Pokemon now had evolved forms and there were two new types of Pokemon? Christ I was over the moon.

I was on the internet checking for any and every little scrap of new information coming from Japan at the time, I remember for months I had a printout of all the new Pokemon but had no idea what their English names were (remember Pikablu AKA Marill?) or even who was an evolved form of who.

I brought my Gameboy to the store with me and was immediately playing it on the way back to the car.

And as far as the actual game goes post-release, I had no idea whatsoever that ALL of fucking Kanto was in the game, so I was literally screaming with excitement when that moment happened.

I went to the midnight release for guitar hero 3 at my local Walmart back in the day, then got home and stayed up all night playing it, probably the most hype Ive ever had for a videogame

i was really obsessed with World of Darkness at the time. had some friends that were into it too. and we used to talk about it all the time. though sadly, rarely actually got a chance to play. the game was a huge deal to me. I actually got a new computer to play it.

Gta3. I had never watched any previews or screen shots or gamely footage. I was pretty well versed in some of the things you could do in the game, and the different crime organizations... so I hyped it up hugely in my mind.

I got the game for Christmas 2001 and I was absolutely blown away that it was a 3d world where you could do almost anything! (Except swim)

As a kid, the launches I remember being especially hyped for were Wind Waker, Sonic Heroes (lol) and Brawl. I would wake up every morning and open up the Smash Dojo website to see the daily update, what new thing they announced.

More recently, Forza Horizon 3 and 4 were both big launches for me.

Super Smash Bros. Melee

My friends and I would have hour long discussions after school about it, looking at the same screenshots over and over again in magazines, amazed by stupid shit like how good Mario's overalls looked. I don't think I even had a GameCube at the time but I knew I was getting one for Christmas.

I would just count down everyday by actually marking days on a calender. Come Xmas Eve I stayed up for over 24 hours and zoomed into the front room at like 7 in the morning to open it. I ended up playing it till like 7 PM until I just finally passed out.

That's the only midnight game release I've sat through and at the time, AC was my favorite franchise

I probably puked in excitement waiting all night as a kid for my mom to bring me an N64 and Mario 64 after she waited in line all night on Christmas Eve but I was 8 so I don't think that counts. I was also pretty hyped for the GTA5 PC port and heist update

The buildup to that game and all of the new items and synergies shown was great.

Probably the N64. I played the Mario 64 demo at Toys R Us two or three times a week. After I preordered it, the wait was unbearable.

Dreamcast was close too. It had WAY more hype leading up to it as opposed to the Saturn, and it felt like a Sega comeback.
