The NES version was only hard because a lot of the best spells didn't work.

A round or two of buffing a knight or monk and he can one shot the final boss.

I have never beat them but aint all the bosses easy? Like the more frustrating part is getting to them because of the high encounter rate and whatnot?

This is my signature, there are many others like it, but this one is mine.
If you take 110% of what I say seriously then you're gonna have a bad time.

I beat the game when I as fairly young, but there are times when it doesnt give you a ton of direction. I could see that being tough for someone who hasnt played it before. The only parts of the game that tend to pose any real threat are...

1) Fighting Astros. If he uses rub and it kills an important member of your team, it can make it an uphill battle.

2) A random encounter with sorcerers in the ice cave. Their attacks can cause insta-death, which can wreck havoc if they get a surprise attack on you.

3) Again in the ice cave, you twice need to fall through a hole in the floor, which results in an unavoidable battle with a full team of undead creatures. If they start stunning your team, there is a chance that theyll slowly kill you and theres nothing you can do about it.

4) If WarMech appears in the floating castle, it can absolutely wreck your team just before fighting Tiamat. Even if you beat it.

Overall, I highly prefer the NES version over the remakes. The remakes are way too easy.

You can run from most encounters. Just grind a bit at times early on to get a few good weapons and spells, and make sure you have enough potions for the earlier dungeons, just in case. Once you get a few healing items, you can pretty easily keep your team at full strength.

NES version is broken. That's like saying you prefer drag racing with a flat tire.

A few spells like SABR & TMPR dont work. And if you use a house, make sure to use a tent right afterwards. If youre aware of those, the game is fine.

Never played the original on NES but the iOS version is way easy with all the items you can use for healing.

Do the iOS versions let you toggle auto-targeting?

The bosses are indeed pretty easy. The difficulty mostly came from the barrage of random battles early on when you have minimal spell slots, no money, and limited inventory space.

It's why the Marsh Cave is considered to be one of the hardest points of the game. I still grind a bit before going there. The Ice Cave is brutal as well just because of how hard hitting everything in there is.

To me, Origins is hands down the best version. Keeps most of the difficulty while fixing most of the broken stuff.

Id have to redownload it to find out, but I doubt it. I should play my Origins copy for a more true experience, but Ive got II, T, VII, XIII and XV to finish first.
