Homophobia has ruined a lot of perfectly healthy male-male interactions. It's just kind of a thing. As homosexuality becomes more acceptable and guys stop being afraid of being perceived as gay, I imagine it'll come back.

As far as I can tell guys are willing to do it but only for a good/close friend and in private, usually where he's just trying to boost said friends self esteem before say asking a girl out or something.

Similar thing. I hate feeling awkward when I want to say something nice to a girl like, I like her dress or hair but have no interest in doing anything with her. Just wanting to pay a compliment.

Seems basically if it comes from a guy compliments are taken as he wants to bang you.

So this reminds me of a situation I had at work. If something looks nice about a co-worker, Ill comment on it. Man or woman. If a guy has a good outfit on, Ill let them know what I think. If a girl has a cute blouse or shoes that I like, Ill tell them. Figure its uplifting to hear a compliment. Or if anyone does something different with their hair or gets a haircut, Ill tell them it looks nice.

A few months back, a manager heard me make such a comment to a female coworker. I was told to stop doing that, as I could be making a female uncomfortable. When I mentioned I regularly pass along compliments to men and women at the office, I was told to just stop complimenting the women, but it was ok to continue it with the men.

I found the situation a bit weird. But Ive complied.

There are ways of telling another man they look alright without seeming completely gay though.

Women hold hands with each other and aren't generally considered lesbian. But you're not going to go around holding your guy friend's hand are you? Well, unless you two are fucking.

It basically boils down to, you treat men differently than you treat women.

You won't say "damn dude, your eyes look amazing with that shirt" because he's gonna think you're a soyboy, and a homosexual and that you want to sex his body.

But, on the same side of the coin, you absolutely CAN say something along the lines of "who's this guy all dressed up for? gonna go slay that pussy tonight, eh?" Obviously, you don't have to use that whole shtick because workplace and all. But you get the idea right?

Thats because of our culture, though. I think its in Korea, guys actaully do that. Theyll like hold hands and stuff. And generally do things with each other that other countries would see as gay. But they are straight and do it...

I don't treat anyone differently unless I'm actively trying to hit on them. This is very rare though.

This tells me you're actually insecure with your own sexuality if you can't take a complement about your appearance without thinking it's something more than that. The same can be said for paying compliments to folk of the sex your attracted too also.

I dont think so. I can find a woman attractive and not want to have sex with her. Same with a guy. Though, more often than not, I would probably have sex with the guy if I were single. But you can find people attractive, but not sexually attractive...

If you cant, that seems more like a you problem. But most other people can...

There is a social stigma around it, however, men and women are able to recognise if other men or women would be considered attractive, it doesn't suddenly become a case where just because they happen to be the same sex as you, that you're incapable of registering if they're aesthetically pleasing to people interested in their gender.

For instance, I know a guy, and he is VERY attractive, unfortunately he isn't very confident, and despite getting multiple people interested in him, he didn't have a single date until his mid 20s.

Though he ended up... In a bizarre relationship with them where she went crazy and basically said she would kill herself if he even had a passing glance at another girl.

No. I can. I can recognize if someone is attractive without being attracted. Because some people are attractive, but not your type, for example.
