im getting back into it after a few years off of dealing with some minor major issues in my life. im starting my graceful aging phase in life and want to fade into the darkness with a little more muscle then i had the day before

im currently sitting at about 165lbs, most of it in my ass, shoulders, and back. id like to get to around 175-180ish by the end of 2019.

i started lifting again about two months ago and my big lifts look like this:

bench: 230x1, 185x10
overhead: 165x1, 135x7
squat: 305x1 275x6
deadlift: 360x1, 315x7
barbell row: who honestly cares

my goal is rejoin the 1000lb club by 2019, which is probably going to be mostly gained from the leg lifts. even at my strongest my bench never really got over 250, mainly because i always preferred overhead and train that one more primarily on pressing days.

anyways, if anyone else is working a program please join in with me here. fitness and weightlifting got me off a heavy addiction to opiates, which some of the old heads here will likely remember i struggled with big time. its a great benefit to ones physical health obviously, but the mental health boost is great as well.

congrats on overcoming addiction

i severely hurt my back deadlifting a while ago. i don't know why deadlifting bothers my back so much but i just can't seem to do any more than like 225-255 without getting negative feelz

i haven't 1rm'd squats or bench lately but i'm at around 295x5 and 335x2 respectively

oh and i don't do OHP either - wind up just doing seated dumbbell stuff for shoulders instead

i appreciate that man. its something that now that ive been able to wrangle in for myself im able to help others and give back. unfortunate that it took such a toll and my life and led to significant pain for people in my life, but i cannot change that.

deadlifting gets me in the left knee the most. really anything over 3 plates i have to be careful with. sometimes its fine, but sometimes it causes at least 2 weeks of issues. always been a problem for me

335 on bench is no freaking joke my man

glad to hear you're doing better. I'm far from my glory days, but I'm trying to get back into weightlifting as well. i never hit the 1000lbs club and I don't think i want to at this point. just want to get back in shape. at my strongest I think my numbers were something like:

1rep:
bench - 225
squat - 315
deadlift - 385

7rep:
bench - 185?
squat - 275
deadlift - a little over 315

now my goal is just to get to a consistent 3x10 at 185ish for bench, 5x5 at 225 for squats, and 5x5 at 315 for deads

not trying to go crazy

Those are awesome numbers for 165lbs and congrats on your progress. Weightlifting really is the only fountain of youth.

I'm currently at 173 (bulking to 180 then cutting to 10-12% Body Fat)

bench: 245x1, 225x3-4, 185x12 ; 205x6-8 depending on day..
overhead: 145x1 (never really tried to max this; end up doing 115 - 135 for sets of 5-8) - mostly work on DB press and seated presses during shoulder days
squat: 305x1 - do a lot of 5x5 in 225-245 range
deadlift: 335x1 - honestly my worst lift.. having a hard time breaking this plateau.

Working on a Push Pull Leg split, but recently went to a A/L/C/B routine which is helping me with strength gains. I'll need some serious improvements in my lower body to hit 1000 club

alcb as in arms legs chest back?

deadlift plateaus were the exact opposite for me. those were the ones i always seem to be able to break through, especially using a 531 program and going down 70ish pounds once i stalled out. once i got back up to that weight i was stuck at id usually be able to progress another 30ish pounds before i needed to do it again

bench on the other hand is where when i hit a plateau i just have nothing for it

Yeah. Tons of volume and you can vary between strength/hypertrophy week by week. 4 on / 1 off. Shoulders go with chest day. Typically hit abs and do cardio during the off day.

Oh, and drop sets/huge volume is what helped me break my bench plateau.

I'm talking 8-10 sets of flat bench something like 135x10, 145x10, 155x10, 165x10, 185x8, 195x5, 185x7, 165x8, 155x10, 135xfailure, followed by incline w/ similar formula. Sprinkle a few of those in with the 5/3/1.

i love 531! i don't adhere strictly to it since i'm too lazy to go to the gym with enough regularity (i go in the AM, and i crave sleep - so i wind up cutting many workouts very short)

but that's definitely how i've attempted to scheme my training for benching and squatting

I need to get back into it. I moved a year and a half ago and my schedule, plus relationship stuff has been every where. Haven't had the time to get back into despite getting a gym membership at a local gym nearby.

Me and my girlfriend are going to start going 5 to 6 times a week starting on next year.

Before I stopped I was at:

275 x 1 on bench
365 x 1 on squat
425 x 1 on deadlift

My best lift for my weight at the time was actually incline bench press which as 240 x 1

Oh and there is no secret to getting passed plateauing. You just gotta keep at it, like 3 or 2 times a week on that one area.

drop sets are how i tackle ohp too. i got out of 135 hell by loading up the bar with smaller plates and recruiting two victims to quickly pull them off for me all the way down.

i didnt have the greatest lift today. im a day out of sync, so what would usually be a press day was a back/biceps. failed to hit 180x10x2 on the lat pulldown which by all accounts i should have gotten, ended up being 8 on the first set and 5 on the second. and i just had jack and shit on pretty much every set on curls.

i did progress on a few things. hit 45lbsx5 on the pullups which ive never had in my life. and while the sitting pull down was disappointing i did do strong on the standing variant.

looking forward to heavy squats in the morning

Did deads today and hit 335x2! Felt really good.... Tried 345x1 and failed, then went back to 275/225 and repped out.

Tomorrow I'm going to try to get back to my 6:00-6:30 A.M lifting routine that I've fallen out of recently. I just feel so much better when I knock it out first thing.

I started learning how to deal dice/craps, so that has me at work 12 hours a day M-F and I haven't found time for the gym yet.

Good to see you btw Sess, do you have Smash?

deads are my fave just for the fact that you can casually throw on 10-20bs for a PR attempt that you werent even planning for and sometimes you hit it

and sometimes you get hurt but whatever

Yeah, I started as a dealer this summer and it's been going great so far. Once I learn how to deal Dice/Roulette I'll be able to deal in any casino/cruise ship in the country/world so that's the next step.

And yeah, imagine going through life without having experienced the greatest story Smash Bros ever told.

alright well i was leaving the shopping center area that has my gym and had to cross into a median that divided the highway. i pull in and wait for the oncoming traffic to go by. as im waiting a kid pulls up to the left of me, which was the spot where someone who wanted to access that median from the oncoming side of traffic would pull into so dick move number 1. i start to pull out onto the highway and this clown starts driving straight into my car, so i wham the horn and thankfully he doesnt hit me, dick move number 2. i get onto the highway and he starts to pull up next to me and motions for me to roll the window down, which im assuming is to apologize for being a shithead. i roll them down and he throws a dunkin coffee thing square at my face and it goes everywhere in my car. i tried to catch up to him as he sped off and get a pic but my windshield was covered in coffee and it never worked out

i was enraged at first but after taking a step away from it im not even mad. it was flawlessly executed. the baiting me to roll down the window. the perfect aim at 40+ mph. the leaving me with a obscured windshield. still not sure why he felt the need when it was all his fault, but still i can appreciate his genius and skill

what a dick. You can totally file a police report BTW. Maybe some of the shops have outward facing cameras that caught the incident.

Or you can camp out at the Dunkin same time tomorrow/remainder of this week and hope the f***er stops in to buy another cup of joe.

Gym was PACKED today BTW - we've got all of the New Year Resolution people coming in to put in their 30 days of work and then quit b/c it's too inconvenient to continue.

oh i called the police and did check with the businesses in the area but nothing worked out. even the intersection he pulled off at didnt have a camera. the officer said that i did the right thing by not pursuing him because if he would throw shit at me for him almost hitting me who knows what hed do if i tried to follow him

i havent been able to lift for a few days as i triggered an exertion headache on some high rep squats. i was fine on rep 19 and then on rep 20 i got an instant massive migraine and nearly fainted. since that day i havent been able to do any real physicaly activity without it causing to flare up, not even a sad handjob. probably going to have to take off at least a week.

dude, the same thing happened to me about two months ago. I've NEVER had an exertion headache in the gym.. and all of a sudden I was benching and it destroyed me.. I felt like throwing up.

I kind of blamed it on smoking two cigars the night before and sleeping like s*** and going to the gym at 6:30 am. I told my girl about it and she flipped... wanted me to get checked out at the doc and stuff. Nah I'm good.

I took three days off and it hasn't happened since. Hope you can get back at it soon.
