The Playstation 4 is just doing it's job like being a console with lots of games and variety.

Nintendo consoles usually suck and the switch doesn't because it has a well received zelda and mario. So naturally it's in the running for one of the best consoles ever.

If you actually looked at the libraries, Nintendo consoles are actually typically more varied than the other two and appeal to larger demographics. And for good reason.

I actually see the PS4 and the XONE as consoles made specifically to appeal to adults and sometimes teens. Also, I see Nintendo as aiming specifically towards children and sometimes teens/adults. It has been like this for more than a decade now.

No real middle-ground in terms of variety for any company, which pretty much sucks.

Now that yesterday's KH3 poll has ended, we can now look at the results in more detail. Here's the KH3 poll and the KH2 poll for comparison:

For KH3, 36.88% of the site either has the game right now or plans to pick up the game very soon. In the KH2 poll, 45.50% of the site either had the game or planned to get the game very soon based on the first 3 options in the KH2 poll.

A lower percentage of this site plans to get KH3 near the launch date compared to KH2. It's worth noting that the KH2 poll took place back in 2006 during a time when the site demographics were much different. In 2006, our average age was around 19, so there would have been a larger percentage of the site that would have been open to playing a Kingdom Hearts game. In the 13 years after KH2's release, our average age has gone way up. In the same way that people may have quit Pokemon because they were getting too old for it, I suspect some people also outgrew Kingdom Hearts as they got older, so that may be another contributing factor to the series getting weaker on this site.

Glad to see RDR didn't win game of the year. That game is so flawed and boring. Its the MGS3 to RDR's MGS2, a nicer looking game with an interesting story, but far too much of the developers jerking themselves off over the number of "systems" that the game is a complete mess.

This is also a very weak month for games, allowing a game like Anthem to win this poll when it would have failed to win this poll in most other months. The vote totals on today's poll are also quite bad, which supports today's poll being very weak on games.

There's probably some SFF here. Tifa is only slightly above a tripling on Aerith. I wouldn't pick Tifa to put up this performance on Aerith in a direct contest match. This would probably be a doubling in a contest match, but I wouldn't go as far as a tripling.

I think the real takeaway here is (yet again) not to put too much stock in non-contest polls.

If I were had to take a guess as to why Aerith is doing so badly here, though, I do feel that there's a baseline of strength that being a major FF7 character gets you, and then Aerith is even stronger than that due to being fondly remembered for her role in the story. However, as a party member, Aerith just doesn't stand out from everyone else for most people, and that baseline FF7 strength doesn't get anywhere in a FF7-only poll.

Aeris kinda sucks. She's the least useful party member, even accounting for the fact that she's gone for most of the game. Personally the FF7 cast for me goes:

Barret > Cid > Vincent > Red > Cloud > Tifa > Aeris > Yuffie > Cait Sith

I'm guessing Yuffie and Barret almost catching up to the pack of Aeris/Cid/Red XIII is more the latter three falling back than the former two improving much as they all slowly blend together into "secondary FFVII character I recognize and probably kinda like but don't necessarily care as much about in 2019."

Tifa's improvement is just otherworldly, though.

So prize emails went out yesterday. They straight up just sent the Amazon voucher to my email address. No verification needed on my end.

It does bring up the point of what is stopping a non-prize eligible entry person just putting in a fake US address and then getting the prize via email.

It takes less than a minute to look up an address on google maps and the admins can check IP addresses as well so the most basic of giving-a-damn would generally foil that.

I expected PlayStation Plus to be more popular than Nintendo Switch Online, but not to this extent.

Subscriber rate for the 3 online console services right now:

Xbox Live Gold - 15.82%
Nintendo Switch Online - 27.99%
PlayStation Plus - 39.96%

Right now, slightly less than half of all Switch owners on this site have subscribed to Nintendo Switch Online. I thought the Switch having the most hyped game on this site in a very long time (since Skyrim) would have helped the subscriber rate of Nintendo Switch Online as you need that to play SSBU online. The cost is also a huge positive for Nintendo Switch Online, as it's far cheaper than PlayStation Plus for a one year subscription.

Despite all that, I didn't think PlayStation Plus would be so easily ahead of Nintendo Switch Online.

Companies don't have to send out a 1099-MISC form for prizes under $600, but the recipient is still expected to report it on their taxes. Since the prize was received in 2019, it would be put on the 2019 tax return, which would be filed next year.
