Also Callaway had said "we're not going to Diaz for 5 outs" but he wasn't even WARMING with 1 out in the 8th, so that's clearly not the issue. And also he doesn't have to pitch 5 outs, he can come in in the 8th and pitch 1, 2, 3 outs...

like dude is a straight up (liar/dumbass/puppet) - pick one, I'm not sure which, maybe all 3

Context: Before the mess in the clubhouse, Mickey Callaway was not particularly happy with questions asked about Edwin Diaz not being used for five outs.

"Because you think we should?" he responded to one reporter at one point. He seemed real irked.

sounding more and more like this really is callaway's issue and he blew up at being questioned for being shit at his job. but need to hear the other side.

but man, this is all a terrible look for this org as a whole. as every day is.

my main problem is this is going to be the "focus" instead of callaway being a shit manager, and ownership causing all the shit things that have been happenign to the mets. Why is the media going to pick this story up, instead of the fact that the Wilpons literally force players to play while they are injured?

Callaway and Vargas are just getting fined by the Mets. That's a chickenshit move by the Mets, they need to be suspended.

Neither apologized either. Callaway actually used it as a compliment to himself. Saying it 'proves he's a firey competitor' and "Billy Martin punched a reporter one time...I'm a passionate guy about baseball, I'm a tough competitor"

fucking yikes

The most toxic of cultures.

This is so fucking sickening, I really truly hate being a fan of this team. There is never any fucking accountability ever anywhere.

IT GETS "BETTER"
https://nypost.com/2019/06/24/van-wagenen-is-managing-mets-games-from-home-in-unusual-struggle/

As general manager Brodie Van Wagenen continues to insist his manager has full autonomy on game decisions for the Mets, a specific example has surfaced that indicates otherwise.

According to an industry source, it was the rookie GM who instructed Mickey Callaway to remove Jacob deGrom from a game in Arizona earlier this month in which the Mets ace sustained a hip cramp. After deGrom was removed from the game in the seventh inning, the bullpen imploded in a loss that added to the frustration of a 2-5 road trip.

The source said Van Wagenen, who was watching the game at home on TV, communicated with a member of the Mets support staff with an order to remove deGrom from the game. Callaway complied with the order, and deGrom was visibly upset as he departed the field, certain that he could continue pitching. The manager was grilled for the move, but at the time insisted the decision was his.

Hell, yeah, its unusual: sending word to the dugout, telling the manager what to do? the source said. I have never heard of that before.

THE METS!!!!!!

the ball is juiced, and the yankees play in a babby stadium, so its not really a big deal. feel free to discuss it but any power related stuff this year is not impressive at all, especially anything that has to do with yankee stadium or having boatloads of cash to buy players good at hitting homers.

this is shit that is literally not legal in MLB and its happening anyway with no repercussion. stuff like this and forcing players to play through injury is serious shit that no one does anything about?

https://twitter.com/DeeshaThosar/status/1143349102429843456

Brodie Van Wagenen said the reports that this went beyond that game in Ariz. is not true.

BVW said he communicates with the training staff when a player is injured, but communication does not include strategy.

everyone knows this is a lie.

well this shit doesn't get talked about enough- these are serious issues

"Callaway and Vargas yells at a reporter" is a story nationwide and stuff like "ownership forces 4 players a year to play while they are seriously injured" or "the front office is illegally calling the manager in the dugout to tell him what moves to make" doesn't get that same kind of press for some reason.

not enough discussion and not enough knowledge of the Mets situation is part of the reason why we have continued to be cursed with them all these years. The toxic part is the LACK of other discussion about it, that these issues are not NEARLY enough brought to light.

and there's new awful shit every day. It's stuff that deserves to be talked about. It's so many mets post because no other team in any sport comes remotely close to having the kind of dirty laundry shit going on in their organization as they do. There really and truly is a new terrible story every single day and they rarely ever get picked up and when they do it's always the stuff that is less ownership-facing , and that is a major problem.

the NBA and NHL have so much more coverage for its badly operated teams than MLB does and its a real goddamn shame.

Edit: And personally, I tend to repeat myself when I bring an issue talks to light and no one else talks about it because it's like the point isn't hitting, and you can say "No, wigs, really it is. Stop." But I won't believe it because it should make you feel upset that this is happening. Like, not a Mets fan level of upset because its happening personally to them, but still some level of anger. If all this shit that happened to them, instead happened to your team, you would be as upset as I am. And I would be upset that it is happening in baseball to ANY team, though not as upset as you'd be, obviously.

[and also I try to edit posts where I can to add on instead of making additional ones to try and "save space" when I remember to do so, so at least give me that]

I think you've done a pretty good job of illustrating and backing up your points, but there's nothing more you can do about it in this topic specifically.

Anyway I don't mind the Mets rant posts too terribly, but it is nice when there's a different topic being discussed from time to time.

I called the company to ask if we'd get something showing that the autograph is legitimate, and he said they don't do certificates anymore since they're easy to forge, they have a sticker/stamp that they put on the product now. Wasn't aware of that! The picture was an added bonus, and I need to get a frame now to display next to the bat an my other Brewers pieces!

Also, so, I listened to the mets AA (amazin avenue... their SB nation blog) podcast this week, and they did a really good job summarizing up almost like my exact feelings in ways I feel like I've never been able to describe before. about not just the whole state of this whole mess lately, but about the overall feelings of everything.

If you have 30 mins or so of downtime or just want to jump around, and you care, I definitely recommend the first 30 mins or so....

If you do care ->

https://www.amazinavenue.com/2019/6/26/18759046/a-pod-of-their-own-episode-13-peak-mets-threat-level-red-callaway-vargas-suspensions-umpires

I can also try to give a quick and dirty ...

We can deal with losing games , and losing them badly. we've been doing that all our lives. Losing games is no big deal as long as you have some hope that someday it will turn around and pay off. We don't have that with this group. Not when there's stuff like what just happened this past week, and this stuff occurs several times per season.

There's always fun story lines to follow that make losing seasons enjoyable like deGrom's Cy Young, Alonso and McNeil this year etc.

But ownership-related shit like the other stuff, this kind of non-game related, higher-up, ownership related stuff really sucks all the joy out of EVERYTHING. even the little bits of tiny nuggets you get from the things like i just mentioned. It reminds you not only are we losing but its going to be like this forever, because its part of the pervasive culture of the ownership. And the lack of communication. That there's never any responsibility taken or any communication from ownership (who we know whose fault it is) that they have failed and will take steps to do better. no re-assurance at all , and we just have to deal with it and accept it. And that's hard to do.

Yet we keep rooting for them anyway because the team STILL manages to somehow give us joy. We don't want to let one fucking dipshit (or group of a couple dipshits) steal that joy away from us. I don't want to let the Wilpons rob me of my fandom, because it is still something I will always care and be deeply passionate for.

I think all that is a better summary of everything than I could've ever before put into words myself.

EVERY. FUCKING. NIGHT. this motherfucking bullpen fucking blows it

WHY DIDNT THEY FUCKING TRY TO BUILD OUT A FUCKING BULLPEN

fml

the mets bullpen has 20 blown saves, most in MLB. 9 ERA over the last month. 11-13 in games in which they have a lead at some point over the last month (2nd worst in MLB)

and the only thing they've done to try to fix this is nothing. keep throwing the same guys out there without fail and not do anything differently. call up a different AAA reliever who sucks here or there.

how do you have your bullpen blow leads fucking 4 days in a row and then TAKE OUT YOUR STARTER AFTER 77 PITCHES

Rangers on a four game winning streak oh ya

sorry SHINE and co that it's coming at Detroit's expense but uh

I am legitimately happy about this

Also, Mike Minor is a legitimately good pitcher this year what the fuck

I was calling people stupid when the Rangers built their rotation for the year with him as the #1 and everybody else being no more than a few years removed from Tommy John surgery, but it's working and I'm eating my words

Just for the record, the Rangers rotation at the start of the year:
Mike Minor - Pitched for the Rangers last year as the #4, and he didn't show anything indicating he was worth more than that iirc
Edinson Volquez - Missed all of 2018 recovering from Tommy John surgery
Lance Lynn - Missed all of 2016 recovering from Tommy John surgery
Drew Smyly - Missed all of 2017 due to Tommy John surgery. Made one appearance at the AA level in 2018
Shelby Miller - Started four games in 2017 before being shut down at the end of April for Tommy John surgery. Made four starts in 2018

Volquez was put on the 60 day DL at the end of May. He was replaced by Adrian Sampson (Missed his senior season in high school due to Tommy John surgery, but at least that was 10 years ago instead of less than 5), who is a legitimate minor league call-up for the team, having been with the Rangers AAA affiliate since 2017.

To quote Reg back in late March when he realized how bad it was looking:
Reg: what the fuck
Reg: what kind of moron put this rotation together
