I mean on paper the Mets were better than a .500 team. Still are too. Just on paper never works out. Even if they had built more optimally to win now, the Mets' atrocious luck would have ruined it anyway. Either way, pretty disastrous loss.

As for the Yankees, hopefully they can take 3 out of 4 from the Red Sox this weekend. Would be nice if the Rays were their only major threat in the AL East. Probably going to split though.

it has nothing to do with luck. I want to be fully clear on the fact that the Mets issues have absolutely ZERO to do with luck and EVERYTHING with how they are run.

it is ownership's committal to half-assing every offseason. Either full on sell, or spend on great FAs. making "one big move" and doing nothing else is strictly detrimental. the moves they made took them from being a .450 team to a .490 team. what does that accomplish? no playoff spot, more bad contract commitments, and tighter restrictions on spending when they actually have a window. that window they had due to their great cheap starting pitching? that window has closed. ownership blew it (or i should say, they never cared about winning when they had that opportunity to do so, but its gone now).

one thing we agree on anyway is that was a truly devastating loss. the kind that will unravel the season, much like it did last season after they blew a 6-1 8th inning lead to the nats.

I definitely feel confident about this Yankees team, but there's still a lot of season left. And I think any of their potential playoff opponents are a major threat. The Astros and Rays are easily capable of beating the Yankees. Everyone knows about the Twins' struggles with the Yankees, but if they face off in the playoffs I will not take the Twins lightly at all. And the Dodgers are pretty scary too, especially because they really want this year to be the year. Just like the Yankees, the season is a colossal failure if you they do not win the World Series.
