No way dude, you're like the Sox from last year. It doesn't matter what the score is, what the situation is, who is hurt who is playing... you always feel like the Yankees are gonna come back.

Meanwhile the Sox best outlook is having a 5-17 Chris Sale starting the wild card game on the road, complete fumes, somehow we get a lead only to realize we never signed a closer so we blow it in the ninth. I'd say that's our high water mark this year.

Like, Cora was asked about the Sunday night win, and what that kind of win might do for the Red Sox, and he just gushed about the Yankees. Your team is hungry, they wanna win and have all sorts of clubhouse drama about Donald Trump in 2020 that ruins their season.

kimbrel to cubs

*insert wilpon rage here that the mets didnt sign kimbrel*
you know how that ^ goes by now so you don't need it

also the mets activated cano today and he was limping down the first base line alike after his very first AB, and he came out of the game by the 5th inning

Are you trying to tell me the Mets probably activated a player from injury too soon OMG NO WAY THAT NEVER HAS HAPPENED EVER

*more wilpon rage etc*

booth confirms Cano came out of the game with "left quad tightness" which is exactly the injury he went on the DL for 10 days ago. He literally was activated today and played like 4 innings of total baseball before coming out with the SAME INJURY. I will remind you, the Mets (aka ownership) said he did not need to play in any rehab games.

It is comical how simultaneously villainous and incompetent the wilpons are to rush a guy back from an injury without any rehab games only for him to get immediately hurt with the same injury

why didn't this deal happen in january again? Was it really like an 80th overall draft pick that prevented this?

oh yeah i suppose i should talk about the good thing too huh lol

his ERA is 3.57 on the season now

I did say in the offseason i was higher on him than most to be fair! He's been great though. hope he can keep it up. Last year, when he came back from injury in August, and he put on the VARGY uniform for the Players Weekend, he was great those last 2 months. Really this year he just had the 1 cataclysmic start, and like one other bad one, and he's been good besides that. Now that he's shown he won't fall apart 3 times through the lineup, he doesn't need a leash anymore

(for those unaware he just threw a CGSHO, though it was just vs the worst offensive team in the NL)

the NL East is a complete trash fire for the taking right now. any team that was able to add Kimbrel or Keuchel (without having to give up any players) would be getting a massive boost. You would think it would be the only one of those 5 times that loudly promised to "win now", yet has not done a thing to show it yet.

love to watch other teams in my team's division truly improve their roster while our GM says "adding hector santiago to our bullpen is a big improvement"

it's the Wilpons fault. everything is their fault. If they weren't so not just cheap and miserly (because so many owners are cheap), but also incompetent, meddling, vindictive, and ego-driven, they'd be a legit strong team, because they have the talent. it's just ruined by horrific and poorly-driven decision making.

the most basic shit like, bringing back Cano from the DL. he plays 1/3 of a game, leaves with the same exact injury, and he's still been sitting here taking up a roster spot and hasn't played in 3 more games now. its LITERALLY just a 10 day DL, stop wasting a fucking roster spot. This is a Wilpon decision 100%. "But if a household name like Robinson Cano isn't on the roster, people won't want to come out and buy a ticket" - this is guaranteed what their reasoning was for activating him too early and then not putting him back on the DL. They did this with Cespedes and literally called him a liar when he said he needed surgery, activated him anyway, he got "re"-injured after one game and then got surgery 2 months later (they actually knew he needed the surgery all along, like 1 month before that incident, and had he had it as soon as they knew, he'd be on the 2019 opening day roster).

Like, this is hwo this garbage franchise is run. and mets fans are so stupidly loyal, we are so much more deserving than having this human scum (which btw they are actually horrible human beings too- they fired a woman for being pregnant and not married) run a baseball team.

But there's nothing that can be done. We are fucking cursed with them forever. They have survived the same scandals that have literally forced out other owners. Nothing will save us. We are doomed forever. I'm never going to see them win a championship and it's all thanks to one fucking disgusting excuse for a person.

so FOH with this "loser franchise" shit, don't overgeneralize like that. there is a reason they are made of shit, and it's because people are just like "oh lolmets same old same old" without failing to realize what the real problem actually is. if the national media actually was worth their salt they'd report on the true awfulness of this situation properly instead of shrugging it off. the wilpons get away so scot-free because they have the mets media in their palm, they can cut off all access at will. most of the national media doesn't touch it either. there's been more articles about them lately, but they're not pointed enough. Every single baseball reporter who has not made an article like "The Wilpons need to be forced out to sell the team yesterday" is not doing their job properly. It's a joke that this is allowed to happen.

jesus christ, this shit literlaly only happens to the mets.
the mets have a 4-2 lead over the cardinals, rain coming down hard. 8th inning just finished. diaz is ready. comes out to throw warmup pitches it starts raining harder. they're about to put the tarp on. rain lets up a bit and they decide not to, after diaz got warmed up. 15 minute delay to clean up the field a bit. diaz blows the lead. to extras. then they immediately put the tarp on.

like are you fucking kidding? this is pretty similar to that awful game the mets blew to the padres after the rain delay in 2015, where again they had a 2 run lead with 1 out to go, and a rain delay interjected and they blew the game after the rain delay, and then they delayed it a second time. its like literally exactly the same.

Like ive said since day 1, that cano/diaz trade is an epic disaster and is going to wind up as one of those top 5 all time worst MLB trades you see on those lists, like 20 years from now.

it's all because ownership refused to give a budget to actually spend on relievers and had to force a trade for one instead. Fuck the wilpons.

Wins certainly don't come easy for them. It's unfortunate how much trouble Diaz has been having. It was too much to expect him to be as great as he was last year, but still he was expected to be one of the better closers this year. Looks like it was indeed a pretty awful trade.

The team lost Beltre (Admittedly, he was old). They lost almost all of their pitching rotation (Minor was the #4 guy last year for a reason). Profar (Who could've easily been the #2 guy on the team after Elvis if the team bothered finding a role for him) was traded. The only positive I can see is that this team made is that all of the young guys had another year under their belts. There is literally no reason to think this patched together nonsense would make a team even one win better than last year's dumpster fire, let alone be one that looks statistically decent.

And the Rangers are still having their perrenial closer issues too <_<

Most closers dont have back to back great years. Even with a very good diaz, they were still ultra-shallow in the pen and didn't address it. That trade is bad but not awful if they add a bunch of other solid closers. they didn't and they had a chance until as late as last week to do so. it is very clear there is no priority to win, and that exact trade is proof of that.

i more had them higher because there's a lot of bad and mediocre teams in the AL that the rangers would get to see a lot. I figured a lot of it would be a mediocre-fest. I think I also was short too many wins when I did everyones numbers so I had to add a bunch somewhere and I think a number of those went to the rangers lol

Anyway wins are also hard to come by for the Yankees now too. They need starters desperately at this point. Having a very good bullpen is nice, but all it takes is for one guy to be off his game to ruin it. Usually I think Yankee fans overreact to a lot of things, but this particular issue is one I do share with them.

There are a number of Yankee fans who would disagree with you here. A lot of them seem to think Hal Steinbrenner is Wilpon levels of cheap. Not going after Keuchel is definitely suspect, but Cashman makes far more good moves than bad moves, so I'm not going to blame ownership too much.

Also, Mets barely eked out a win there.

yes? literally anyone can get hurt swinging. so why have anyone bat? if he didnt get hurt batting he'd just get hurt throwing a pitch next inning anyway, it makes literally no difference. theres plenty of dumb reasons to not want pitchers batting but because they can get hurt while batting is the dumbest, its selection bias. "judge got hurt swinging, so he shouldnt be allowed to bat either." dont be dense.

anyway , yeah vargas got hurt. mets are now down 2 pitchers on back to back days and have literally no replacements for either of them. its almost like having literally 0 backup starters and also skimping on the bullpen is a bad idea. Sell The Team.
