Nope. Like I said, grew up in poverty and went to public school. And still excelled.

What do you think would happen if charter schools are banned? Do you really think that would HELP anyone? Or it would be just "level the playing field" by not allowing those kids to have access to elite teachers/programs.

It's purely for punishment.

I mean those elite teachers aren't going to quit. They will work at the public schools.

And if the funding and donations that go to the charter schools go to public instead that will keep a lot of those programs going.

What about a middle ground? Private School can still exist, but it gets $0 of public money.

The public education system is controlled by Democrats. We should defund public schools to force the teachers and their unions out. They can retire with their big pensions and then we will start over by massively raising wages and standards to attract good, intelligent, conservatives to the field. We will restore the dignity of teaching as a profession.

I had cousins from Texas who were completely unable to write in jr high and high school despite good grades. I was shocked to see how bad they were. That was 10-15 years ago.

So it's not so much new as happening in more areas. Heck at the Georgia college my wife works at the kids struggle to write 5 page papers. And seldom get assigned longer than that.

Yes, that was what I said.

But more seriously, I do think we, as a country, should be incentivizing people who are not teachers right now to teach. Our school system is failing and we should be getting people from outside the system in if we want change.

Our schools are not competitive enough. Students don't compete with each other enough. That's because our schools are structured to reward minimum competence. The top student in the class gets virtually identical grades to the #2. Tests have loads of easy questions, but students are expected to get the vast majority of them right to get a decent grade.

This isn't what the real world is like. And this isn't what school is like in East Asia at least. Test questions are hard enough that the students who actually know the subject matter well will stand out. Students know they are competing with each other. Students don't get credit for turning in mountains of time-wasting homework, or even worse, extra credit.

I think a big reason for this culture is our teachers tend to do well in an environment based on minimum competence rather than outstanding performance themselves. That's because we don't pay teachers well so highly talented people choose other professions. And this is a feedback loop - the worse our teachers are, the less the public believes they deserve to be paid.

You would be surprised how many major changes teachers and admins would make if they were allowed to. I have heard so many educators talk about how we need to change testing or get rid of summer vacation but administrators cant do it because the public gets upset if they change anything and the department of education is run by a lot of people who dont want change and to often aren't even educators.

They study all these learning methods and theories then get in the school and they cant use them because they have to follow state/federal curriculum.

I got Andrew Yang as my #1, followed by John Kasich and then Donald Trump. A lot of the questions it felt like my actual answer wouldn't fit into any of the boxes. Like, I want college to be less expensive, which is why I DON'T want the government to commit to paying more for it. That would just cause the colleges to raise their tuitions further.

The only questions I rated "most important" were keeping the Electoral College and not allowing non-citizens to vote.

I'll have to do some research, I doubt those are accurate portrayals of their stances

What they might be talking about is non-citizens being counted by the census when determining how many seats each state gets in the house

There are bigger issues with how the house numbers are chosen (the ratio is getting more and more skewed as the country's population grows), but this is the one related to immigration

Yeah, I looked at the details. None of those candidates actually said non-citizens should be able to vote. That's based on their supporters' poll answers and some very loose constructions of their words.
