Well I mean, the shittiness of many modern seasons is a direct result of the producers trying to replicate Cambodia and holding it up as an example of how Survivor SHOULD be played.

Yeah, I don't blame Cambodia I blame production because you're not wrong I think they wanna replicate Cambodia because how popular it was. Now, fortunately, I think DvG may be that new season which I think will make you guys a little happier.

While Im harsh on Cambodia, Id like to point out that there are several factors that I think have led to the decline of Survivor. Ive actually been thinking a lot about this, and maybe doing a lengthier blog post about it once EoE ends.

Here is my line that I've stuck to, production underestimates their fan base and thinks it needs some sort of gimmick to keep people watching and they're wrong but at the same time that's why they keep taking these big swings like an EoE or a GI. Where the best received recent season are the ones who are in the middle ground Cambodia (say what you want there were not THAT many twists in Cambodia), MvGx, Koah Rong, DvG. So once they figure that out I think Survivor won't be in a "steady decline" like you said but continue to be consistent. The problem is that may not happen til at least 40 based on spoilers. Because even in DvG the fire thing was fiiiine obviously we would all prefer it not be there but it is liveable.

I think it's just Probst wants to up the ante as much as he can. Push until it breaks. Test as much as possible. I don't think he's interested in going back to basics, but more so in exploring what's next. He's all about big swings and going for broke, trying something different with each iteration. I think he also doesn't view these seasons as a regression, or worse off than previous seasons. As long as he continues to push the envelope, and the fans still stick around (which they will, because Survivor has a big, strong core audience), he's gonna keep trying new, wacky, potentially disruptive, but potentially inventive ideas.

Also because they're now in Fiji forever, which means it's all about the next new theme.

I'm just now realizing if Lauren reaches the final 4 she'll have attended more TC's than anyone else ever in a single season. Current record is 15. Final 4 would be her 16th.

And if she reaches the final 3 then she'll set the record for surviving the most TC's ever at 16 (record is also 15 by Natalie White & Denise).

Rick can tie the first record if he reaches the F3, and tie the second if he wins the season.

But it's usually not counted because it wasn't a formal elimination TC. That's like saying Tai and Aubry survived the TC where Michele voted Neal off the jury.

GTM did you enjoy the BBCAN7 finale? Where would you rank BBCAN7 compared to the others?

Yeah, I really liked the finale a lot. It does a few things better than survivor: I, for one, enjoy it when they talk with everyone on the season, and a smaller jury is nice. Part 1 of the HOH was very fun to watch, and seeing Kyra completely break down in the final part was fitting. Dane choosing Anthony gave us the best possible final two from a "the winner wasnt obvious" point of view, and the reaction was a great moment too. Compared to BB, they got a bit more time with Jury questioning (just a bit) and it seemed more fun and tongue in cheek. And loved seeing the houstguests reuniting with family (and to a very lesser extent, Kiki and Este), that was very sweet.

Still some low points. Part 2 was obvious (but that's better than Part 3 being obvious). Missed out on the jury reaming Kyra if they were in the final two. Not much heart in the Jury responses, and they both did not answer any questions. I am fine with the montages if we get some good reactions, ( from last season), but this season, they had the camera on all the stonefaced no-sell people. Then the standard BB stuff. Not enough Jury time and finale ending once the winner is revealed. But I hope we get some post-game interviews to cover that, which makes it relatively okay.

But as a season, Its still probably very low. I enjoyed it, just enjoyed other seasons more. There were some real boring stretches, got essentially the worst double eviction targets, and the twists, god. Really made me miss BBCAN6.

The most fun part looking back is that no one believed in the pretty boys, and they dominated. Chelsea/Eddie/Este/Damien were rolled over despite being EVERYONE's top 4 going in.

This was essentially just a thought dump, if I think of more things, ill make another post or ill just continue editing this post

Also I'm listening to Christians recap episode of last weeks Survivor on RHAP and jesus christ Rob has been letting him ramble on any tangent he gets on and I checked the time, I'm 1 hour in on 3 hours. It's pure gold obviously but Rob really knows what he's working with here.

Redmond at least said 39 will not be involved. He originally said that 38 wouldn't be involved either but he has backed off the 38 statement a bit. I'm wondering if they offered it to the final 3 and then they'll give them an answer after the reveal? Idk, speculation of course.

This has been my stance from the start (heck I'm pretty sure there would be a legal issue with them prematurely revealing to them that they won) but some other users were insistent that it would be possible so I decided to be careful just in case.
