there are better alternatives
hell even a classic mouse trap is better than a glue trap cause at least the mouses suffering is over quickly that way

but there are plenty of humane catch and release style traps to use

Release? So it can come back?

We put the garbage bag on the ground for an hour and when we looked, it had a big hole in it and pieces on the ground.

I want to get RID of the rat.

I rarely see snapping traps work, left out for weeks without a single mouse. Glue traps are much more effective if you want to actually get rid of the problem.

I find them hilarious, not too long ago I had a real fighter caught in the glue. The rodent went above and beyond for its freedom by chewing off its own arm to escape. However, I was lucky enough to be there right in time before it got away and tossed it in the trash.

Dude, rat trapping videos are fine. Even these vids of the mink man using his mink and dogs to hunt rats and muskrats are fine. When it comes to people using rats to feed their predatory animals locked in a cage with 0 chance for survival is the problem. It's a vore fetish and some creeps love that shit and want to see more animals killed and eaten.

There's some reptile channel out there that does that sick shit, like literally has a momma rabbit and her babies, the lizard or whatever eats the babies first and then the mom, all made for YouTube. If you so happen to have a mouse problem and want to document you getting rid of it for online, no problem. I saw the last topic before it was removed, not a bad video, just glue traps on like a dozen mice. If he would of set it on fire there'd be a problem.

I think I'll go for effectiveness over trying to treat a rodent like a human. When I was a kid we had some mice in the new house we built right after we moved in. We laid out the classic traps and the bait would always be gone but the mouse would never trigger the trap. Switched to glue traps and they got the job done. I don't have a mice/rat problem now but if I did, I'm getting the glue.

Professional pest control technician here.

There are other ways of dealing with rats besides glueboards, but there's no one "best way".

Rodenticides work fantastic, kill the animals without too much gruesome suffering (most modern rodenticides are bloodthinners which tends to result in fatal doses after about 4 days of eating it), however it also comes with the added risk of secondary poisoning to birds of prey if they eat multiple rodents with the active ingredient in their system.

Catch and re-release is incredibly pointless for the most part since rats and mice have large territories that can encompass miles, so you'd need to drive them somewhere like 20 minutes away to be effective, and at that point you're taking a communal animal that depends on nest mates/family to thrive and dropping it off in an unknown environment with no companions where it'll most likely be killed by competition, so is that really humane?

Snap/insta-kill traps are ineffective for large populations because the smartest/most cautious rodents will avoid them, however they are definitely the most humane.

So yeah, it's tricky. TBQH glueboards aren't even that effective for rodents because rats and mice are too wily for them to work all the time. We use glueboards for crickets most of the time. The few times we catch mice in glueboards, I do euthanize them since it is a pretty gruesome way to die. (One time I found a dead baby snake caught inside of a customer's house :( I felt really awful when I saw that.)

There is a very clear and obvious difference between dogs and rats. One is helpful to humans, one isn't. One has killed millions of people, the other hasn't.

Dogs weren't bread for food, they are companion/working animals. Rats are neither of those (except to the odd weirdo who keeps one as a pet).

Yeah see that's not a great comparison because dogs have only ever been raised as a companion to mankind. They evolved alongside us as a member of the family, not a food source, so farming them for slaughter now is kind of going against nature.

Like, if we're being honest, using dogs for meat is like a step or two away from raising human babies to eat lol.

Inhumane? Good thing I'm not killing humans

"Inhumane" isn't just in regards to humans.

From Merriam-Webster, inhumane is defined as "not humane."

Humane is defined as "marked by compassion, sympathy, or consideration for humans or animals."

Off-topic but the Humane Society doesn't actually do much to protect/rescue animals, and is pretty damn shady. Most of its funding goes toward executive salaries and political propaganda. They actually lost their status as a charity organization a few years ago.
