Board 8 > Potentially going to play every Mega Man and MMX game for the first time

I just got both MM and MMX Legacy Collections for the Switch. I've played a few of them previously, but never enough to *really* say I have.

Gonna try to power through them all this summer if they're enjoyable.

Rankings/tips/words of encouragement?

I cant speak for the later X games but 5-10 sounds right if youre playing blind and figuring out the boss order on your own

If you know the orders going in its more like 2 hours per game

The games are really short. It depends on how good of a player you are and how much you're willing to do certain side stuff in the later games, but it's easy to blaze through them even for a first time time player.

I feel like 7 gets a lot of unfair flak. It's a pretty fun and solid game, despite its flaws. Admittedly I'm biased since that was the first Mega Man game I played(But I've played 1-8).

As for advice....

1st game does indeed have a lot of bullshit in it, the later games naturally smooth things out over time.

Besides that, some general advice is to not be afraid to go back to a stage/boss later if you're having a lot of trouble. Some stages are a pain without certain ah... "equipment", and some bosses are a pain without their weakness to exploit.

So hey guys. Mega Man 1 is ridiculously hard (thankfully the rewind function exists).

What changes in MM2 that makes everyone like it so much more than the original?

The levels have much better designs (less cheapness) and the weapons are generally more useful. You can touch spikes and lava while flashing after getting hit, unlike the first game. Less jankiness when it comes to moving platforms (you wont just randomly fall through them like the ones in Ice Mans stage)

E-Tanks added (consumable life refill) if you need a little more help on a boss

Do you know about the pause button glitch? Its only in MM1 but if youre having trouble with bosses it helps. That game has two pause buttonsthe one that lets you change weapons and another that just pauses the game and stops the music. If you use that second pause right when a shot hits a boss, then repeatedly unpause and pause again, they will take damage again from the same shot. Just make sure you arent ALSO taking damage because the same principle affects you too. It works best with Elec Beam or the Cutter since theyre big.

Mega Man 1 beated

That was quite enjoyable; however, I would have HATED this without the Legacy Collection's cheat features. That boss rush at the end would have been impossible for me without rewinding.

I'm in awe of how some of you did this when you were like six.

Once you play enough, the patterns of Guts Man, Ice Man, and Bomb Man become predictable enough to not get hit. Fire Man is insane though. I definitely didn't beat the game until I was a teenager though, especially since this one had no password function.

I beat the game with buster only and don't really remember how the Fire Man battle went.

It was probably just killing him before he kills you kinda thing, but you have to jump over a decent amount of the attacks.

I just ate shit a bunch and kept hitting him until he died first. Dodging with any regularity was impossible.

The CPU will follow certain patterns, so that strategy is basically just exploiting that pattern.

Holy shit is MM2 a monumental improvement over the original (starting with a jump mechanic that actually feels normal). I'm only 3 stages in and this might be the biggest leap in quality of any game from its predecessor.

mega man falls like a rock (pun?) in Mega Man 1. Specifically thinking of the Guts Man platforms

Mega Man 3 is the best one imo. 2 is a great game, but too easy. Metal Blades just murder everything. It feels good but also feels very cheap.

I personally like 5 the best, but it's not objectively one of the better ones.

Eh, some of it's nostalgia, I think, and some of it is just loving the challenge of the original, even if it's largely because the controls weren't as good.
