Do you need to stay in CA for now?

I do not. I'd love to leave it behind, even.

I helped a friend find a few places in Brooklyn NY as well, and places for another in Portland Oregon, but most of them have been in or near Olympia WA where I live. Depends on where you are, but you can generally get a place ranging from $350 a month to $600 a month in the most expensive places, usually including utilities/internet.

My folks are in Centralia. Olympia seems nice if I can find a residence and a job. I'd ask my folks for help with such a move, but my stepdad would pick up and drive here when the man should not be straining his back for a bag of gromulch at this point, let alone moving boxes. I don't want to do that to him, ya know? At the same time any help you could give me in this would be most appreciated.

wolfy42 posted...
I can find you a place in SoCal pretty easy, if you have specific location or area in mind. Some places are far more expensive then others, but I can find you one under $700 anywhere (I mean, not Malibu heh....but anywhere logical).

I'd rather avoid places like Boron where my situation would only get worse. lol... Also, I vaguely recall the cheaper areas down here requiring a car to get anywhere, including work. At least fifteen years ago it was the case where people moved to this desert for low housing costs, and spent those savings or more on car-related payments to get to and from their places of employment.

All the more reason for me to get out of SoCal, this time for good. (I had lived in Salt Lake City for a couple years where it was nice)

I can help you find a place in centralia easily, and it's super cheap there. Also if your dad wants to pick me up on the way to come get you, I'll move all the boxes etc so he doesn't have to (just don't like driving long distances anymore).

Centralia is really close to me, and it's very inexpensive to live there. I will look now but I bet there are rooms for rent under 400. It's actually hard to find/get them in olympia/lacey where I live, but I have been pretty lucky/good at finding them here.

I'll look now. I also have a friend who works for people ready (it's a temp agency), they have a app for a cell phone to get jobs for you etc, and he would be able to set you up with work pretty much right away. Only prob would be getting there without a car initially (especially asI think most of the work is in Olympia/Lacey which isn't far from centralia...but is if you can't drive.

I'll check for places right now and see what the landscape is like. Would be way easier for me to help you near here (where I am) then LA/SoCal.....but I can look around there as well.

Hmm there are only 4 listed in centralia right now....it doesn't seem like a very large town. Tons more in areas around there, but if you want to actually live in the town there are only a few choices (on craigslist at least). Here is one (that actually lists the price) at $450 a month ($500 deposit though).

I can usually find them without a deposit but it may be hard near such a small town. Plenty up north in olympia/tumwater/lacey which is my area or south from there near Vancouver WA though, and that is still near your parents.

https://seattle.craigslist.org/oly/roo/d/centralia-shared-house-on-dead-end-with/6899336758.html

I can also check my facebook links, which help a ton in my area, but again, centralia may be a bit too far south for much to show up.

Oh this one is better and it's another female with just 2 cats (so you must like cats...if you don't....I won't help you anymore!!! (just kidding).

Anyway, here is the link it's $350 + 1/2 utilities.

But I gotta say, if you don't have a car you are going to be REALLY limited in what you can do in centralia it looks like. It seems to be really small. It might be much better for you to live somewhere like olympia/vancouver/tumwater etc (or even tacoma) where you are still fairly close to family, but there is good public transportation and tons of jobs etc.

Ahh, ok, what about the olympia/lacey area then, or Vancouver?

Is there an area you would like to move to. I can help find a place anywhere, and work as well, but kinda gotta know where you want to go.

Can you stay with your parents short term, or drop your stuff off there at least, while you work and get money to move in somewhere, or will they help you with move in costs etc?

Found one in olympia for $280, but we would need to make sure it's actually a girl and not some sicko guy trying to get a female roomate.

Work isn't a problem here, there are tons of jobs, you just need enough to move in and support yourself for the first month etc. I can help with food and there are food banks as well. Also if you don't mind donating plasma I know lots of people who get about $300 a month doing that as well (haven't done it myself but it's quite common in the area).

Nice thing is public transportation here rocks, but most places you live there are tons of jobs within walking distance that pay $12+ an hour (min wage is $12).

Those places would be nice, I think.

I may or may not be able to talk them into helping me store my stuff for a little while, maybe. That much may be uncertain.

As for staying at their place the problem at that point would be that they live by a private road (that has only enough room for one vehicle) going up the side of a mountain. So getting to and from anywhere would be that much rougher for me.

Yeah, it would be much better if you could just move into a place in olympia directly. Do you have any money saved at all? I have helped a bunch of people move into places and a few are women, so they might be willing to have you stay with them briefly if needed.

Would be the best if your family would help with just getting you into a place. I have already lent out all the money I can right now, had to get a friend into a place and he had no money, was supposed to get paid on the 15th of last month (from twitch) and it didn't come through, so I'm still waiting to get paid back from that.

I'm on a fairly short budget myself. I may start teaching again (or subbing) which will help, but yeah, I can't afford to pay for you to move into a place right now. I can help with resources though, help with food (I always cook extra) and I'll help you move stuff etc if your in the area. I do know alot of people around here though, and some of them may be able to help as well.

The AV, yes.

based on the cities mentioned, and the cost, they seemed the likely two candidates in LA. given your residing in the AV, you've acclimated to Arizona.

short of emergencies, doubtful their citizens regularly venture outside, in time you could buy a junker car. either way, best of luck.

So the current plan APPEARS to be trying to get work--which I've been trying to do already--and getting money together so I can move to WA; unless I've misunderstood something. So yeah, I need to get that ball rolling, as it were. I've applied to more places out here and checked in on a few others, and still nothing yet.

It doesn't help that I need to replace some nicer clothes for interviews, or that I'm running out of hygiene items. The weather is warming up fast, meaning no more jacket and I need to replenish my sunblock.

Food has been reduced to dry cereal, a slice of toast with peanut butter on it (twice a day), and runs to Costco for their free samples on weekends. A couple friends have sent enough money for two or three weeks worth of eating like this. For that I am grateful to them.

More on this later, but I'm going to be selling some stuff via craigslist that I neither need nor want. This will include a hardwood entertainment center that is on wheels, a large, standard def tube television, a dual core G5 mac with two monitors and external hard drive, a few Puzz3D puzzles, five class jigsaw puzzles that are almost as old as I am, and a DVD set of an anime I no longer care for.

I have no idea how much I'll get from these things, yet.

Thanks, Lan.

One sad thing is all the times I've either filled a survey for this site or when I had been entered in a thing for uploading a guide, and I received nothing.

So yeah, if I need anything at the moment it's money for food and continued hygiene. If I can manage that, selling the things I want to sell, and getting work finally to help save up for the big move north of here, then I'll be in better shape. At this point there are too many unlikelies or what-ifs attached to moving forward.

One is someone who changed their contact info without informing me, or few other people we know, so good luck using that one at all. Another died.

When I think about it, as well as this site, I think of all of the surveys I filled out or the many times I was entered in some thing for submitting a guide, only to receive nothing in the way of Amazon Gift Cards. Had I received any such cards I wonder if I could have bought time cards for FFXIV (especially now with a promotion via Amazon I'm currently missing), the few food items I'm using now, or more hygiene stuff. My luck with such rewards has been as bad as finding work where I'm at.

Costco samples, Friday through Sunday, only help so much, you know? I'm past broke, and actually owe more money than I can make in the foreseeable future. It sucks so hard.

Not exactly, yet. It's looking more and more like I'm going to head up north to WA state, but the big question mark is affording the move. I still need to sell that stuff off too, including two large items no one wants to help me move around again - the entertainment center and big-screen tube TV. I don't expect much from the latter item unless there's an avid collector or someone desperate to get one of those heavy-ass things.

Also, most importantly, I'm running out of food in a couple days here. It'd cost me about 10-13 bucks for a week's worth of food as I've been doing for the past month or so.
