so yeah the set up Im not super stoked with, but I can see why it kind of works. It allows everyone to try and showcase their skills and put their money where their mouth is. It forces some of the talk to be heavily mech related, I think it would be more fun to have a game like this but with flips and closed setup. So they know no vanillas but they dont know whats up

Such is Mafia, I suppose. You can't win them all.

Even in a setup that appears to favor town on paper, the players and/or meta can shift it to a game won by scum the majority of the time or vice versa.

For example, I just modded a game on MafiaScum that looks scumsided in a vacuum, but the setup plays with the site meta in such a way that the scum would be unlikely to take the "optimal" actions. (Sure enough, they took the bait, and if not for a lucky kill, they would have been absolutely steamrolled.)

in a final 4, 2 of the 3 townies ended the day with no vote down.

the final townie was correctly voting the scum, but one of the non-voting townies told them they refused to vote the scum and so they had to vote somewhere else. so they changed their vote, and then the person convincing them to change it didn't even place a vote - she decided she wanted to No Lynch, and thought that by not placing a vote at all, it'd count as a vote for No Lynch. Then the final townie (the one who got mislynched) was M.I.A. the whole second half of the day and showed up 1 minute past deadline to place an invalid vote.

so... sometimes there's not much you can do.

I found redemption with my quick chat with batman when he told me pushing him put fear in his heart and thought he was done for and had no idea how he was getting away with lynching me

Mewtwo played a very good final day though. I'm very happy that I didnt push to lynch them and found them

To be fair one of them was playing their first ever game in English

And one of them played very well and tried to lynch last scum

But aside from maybe 3 or 4 players it was a very good and high level game

Yeah Ill stick with Board 8. You guys are actually good at the game.

The lack of voting properly is pretty glaring, but besides that, mafia is the kind of game where even if you're good, you still have the occasional game where you come away looking like you have no clue what you're doing. If the opposing team is good, it's quite frequent even!

Every mafia community on the internet sends 1 representative. Not just that, but they need to send someone whose schedule is open and has the time to commit to a competitive game for a few weeks.

Not every mafia community has 1 "world's best player" tier competitor to send.

The semifinals (wildcards) and finals are incredibly competitive though.

Hell, the player who tried to No Lynch by not voting made wildcards last year after being part of a dominant town win. Honestly I have no clue how she messed up and I'm disappointed.

It's basically an all-star game, Ulti, where every team has to send 1 pick.

So, imagine what the NBA All-Star game would look like if every team could only send 1 pick.

I have been very excited tor a long time before time and I have to say it was more stressful than I expected. When I was finally lynched I had a headache I can only compare to what I feel like after going really deep in a poker tournament . And somehow the final day without me was even more stressful. And the. Just.... peace when it was done. Relief

I have to admit when I have the proper time appearing in these types of things is the opposite of stressful for me. It makes me feel alive and challenged and I get to actually use the full arsenal of my skill.
