Wait, never mind: I don't want to be spoiled on the DR3 game, but I don't care as much about the DR3 anime. So if Nagito is only in the anime and not in the third game, it's probably fine. Why did they pick such a confusing title system?

I hope this writeup isnt too bad/long-winded.

King of the giants, destined to destroy the world. Surtr has the burning desire to lay waste to the land with the power of his flame... And yet, theres much that he loves. He sees himself as the father to his men, and admires the human race. While the situation was tragic, he was proud of his Role for the fact that humans will be able to rebuild the world into something better, after both his own people and those of Valhalla fall.

... Although, that comfort never lasts, as he realizes that this war has happened many times before. You see, Surtrs helmet summons Shadows; negative memories that have been cast away. Its through these that he learns that Valhalla has been closed off from the other worlds, and put into a perpetual time loop. He falls into despair, yet is forced to continue the fight and fulfill his Role.

Hed finally been freed from this eternal cycle, when summoned to Tokyo... And imprisoned inside a research facility. There was a strange kind of peace with this new life, he formed a family unit with he new classmates. Him the father, Babalon the mother, and his children Arc and Azathoth. The four of them managed to escape, thanks to an attack by an enemy guild, but Surtrs woes were far from over. It turns out that Tokyo has also been set into a time loop. To have any chance of stopping this, he would need to bring suffering to these beloved humans. He goes so far as to follow Babalon in her plan to destroy the Earth, after having his mind worn down by many cycles and being convinced of her noble intentions. His family forms a guild called The Genociders.

Hes very respectful to his opponents, maintaining a calm, kind tone even during battle. If there is a fight that Surtr feels he absolutely must win, he allows the memories of the fallen to engulf his consciousness and send him into a mindless rampage. He doesnt think very highly of himself, feeling that he deserves all the pain inherited from his helm. The helm is never taken off, in honor of his kin. He sees himself as a force of destruction, and sites this as a reason that he has no interest in intimate relationships. But, at the same time, he also lovingly bakes for everyone, and treats his human prisoners very well (personally tending to their injuries at times), and is just generally a total dad. With an especial fondness of Arc, he some sees a flame in them similar to his own, despite how passive they are.

Has the ability to raise an army of giants built from Shadows, force memories and feelings of suffering onto others, and burn any connection and safeguard to other worlds.

Ushiromiya Kinzo (Umineko no Naku Koro ni)

Kinzo is a whole lot of things: an incredible man; forceful, obsessive, and brilliant; but also a hot mess. It's hard to know where to begin with this dude.

He's a legendary businessman who amassed immense wealth and brought the Ushiromiya family back to its former glory. As the patriarch of the Ushiromiya family, he ruled with a heavy hand. He had very definite ideas of how things should be done (his sons needed to carry on his business legacy! his daughters needed proper husbands who would also carry on his business legacy!) All his children were molded by his expectations, scarred by his disappointment, forever in his shadow.

In Trails of the Sky, there's a character who says "A father is a wall for a son to overcome." Kinzo was a hell of a wall.

He was also wildly obsessive in love and in his studies of the occult, and kind of a loose cannon; nobody really had a handle on this guy. "I wouldn't put it past Kinzo" becomes a catchphrase in one of the later episodes. Eighty(?)-year-old guy, jumping out his window at night, sliding down the drainpipe, on some obscure occult mission? Sure. Why not. Wouldn't put it past him.

Also he was a powerful magician. Sure! Why not! That's our Kinzo!

Alsooo he's the lover of the Golden Witch Beatrice, and literally obsessed with her. so chuu2? The truth is more sordid - Beatrice was an actual woman he fell in love with in his younger days. She wasn't a good marriage prospect because she had no STATUS, so he married someone respectable and kept Beatrice as his side woman (and true love). Beatrice bore him a kid and died in childbirth, and Kinzo raised Beatrice(2) in secret - and then she grew up to look just like her mom and Kinzo raped her. She got pregnant, ran away, fell off a cliff and died, but the child, Beatrice(3) survived and, unbeknownst to Kinzo, became one of the Rokkenjima servants. And Kinzo was VERY SORRY. WAAAAA BEATORICHE

So this incredible larger-than-life dude is actually a child rapist and a broken old man wracked with guilt over being a child rapist, but you don't find this out until very late in the game, so how does it properly factor into a ranking? idk that's why I nominated him

Alsooo, Kinzo died before the start of the game. Everyone comes to Rokkenjima Island for the yearly family conference and Kinzo's already dead (no foul play, just old age). Krauss/Natsuhi/the servants cover up his death for reasons I don't remember. It's an easy sell: he's SO idiosyncratic and SO disappointed in his kids that "he just won't come to dinner" is actually plausible. So literally every Kinzo scene in the game (flashbacks aside) is fanfiction. I <3 fanfiction

ALSO why is it so hard to find vintage Kinzoface, I had to go with remake

So a devastating sandstorm hits Dubai. The 33rd Infantry Battalion, led by Colonel John Konrad, is sent in to evacuate the population, but the mission apparently fails and Konrad disappears.

Six months later, Captain Martin Walker (the main character) and two of his men are sent into Dubai to evacuate Konrad and any other survivors. This mission is a big deal to Walker because Konrad previously saved his life, and is one of his personal heroes.

So Walker and co. head into Dubai, not having a clue what's going on, and they find themselves in the middle of a full-blown civil war between those of the 33rd who stayed loyal to Walker, those of the 33rd who defected, and the CIA. You understand it's not this clearly laid out in game. It's just like "dudes are shooting us" "wtf why are they shooting us" "w/e shoot back" and it KEEPS HAPPENING.

And because our dudes are just dumped in the middle of a powder keg with guns, literally everything they do makes things worse. Oops civilians dead. Oops more civilians. Oops. Oops. Why are they shooting at us. Nothing we can do but shoot back. Oops.

And periodically Walker's comrades are like "Maybe we should just leave???"

Walker always says no. Because he wants to rescue Konrad, his PERSONAL HERO, and he also sees mounting evidence that Konrad is responsible for war crimes/atrocities, and he wants to know how his PERSONAL HERO could do such a thing.

So they keep on going, and keep on killing, and iirc they end up destroying the whole city's water supply, basically dooming everyone to a slow death. Why did they do this? idk it seemed like a good idea at the time?? I think it was like, they allied with the CIA, and destroying the water supply was supposed to break the 33rd rebels' chokehold on power, or something.

Ultimately it turns out that Konrad is dead, and has been dead before the start of the game(!!) - he committed suicide after his evacuation mission failed. Walker has been hallucinating about Konrad throughout; e.g. what he thought was Konrad taunting him was just Walker talking to himself while his comrades stood there like "uhh...you okay dude?" So basically the mission was even more of a fracas than it already was. The end! After this revelation, if you want, you can have Walker commit suicide.

Shuckle has absurdly high defensive stats in general and those got boosted to be four times as high. In addition, he's paralyzed which means you can't poison or burn him, which does percentage damage over time

For example, I was doing a randomized Pokemon run and I didn't lose to all of the extremely strong late-game Pokemon that everybody seemed to have. I died to the boss's Shuckle which just WOULDN'T. DIE.

Actually I'll help explain Shuckle since you don't know Pokemon at all.

Like I just said, he has extraordinarily high defense. Look at his stat distribution (larger bars mean higher stats): https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/shuckle

As far as I know, those are the highest defensive stats of any Pokemon in the game, and he's just a turtle living in a rock. He can't die. You can't kill him. This is especially true with his rare ability Contrary which reverses any stat changes (increases become decreases and vice versa) and his rare move Shell Smash which raises attack a ton and lowers defense a bunch. With this combo, it's trivial to boost his defense to insane levels like in the image.

He's noteworthy for a another reason. There's a move that can make his attack and defense swap values... you can probably see where this is going. If you set things up exactly right, he can do over 700 million damage in one attack. Keep in mind that the maximum HP that Pokemon ever get it like, 1000. It's a very specific scenario, but that's absolutely insane.

The image is probably Acupressure Shuckle (without Contrary obviously). Though yes Shell Smash Shuckle is another (better) gimmick that exists.

Also Shuckle apparently has the same base physical defense as both Mega Aggron and Mega Steelix. (Though I wouldn't have guessed that either if I hadn't just looked it up)

Update: busy, haven't really had time to do much with this. I'm doing all the writeups beforehand, so the actual ranking topic should have very little downtime, but it means the wait will be somewhat long in between topics.
