Pokmon HOME can only transfer Pokmon to Sword & Shield if they appear in the Galar Pokdex.

Holy shit, what a stupid thing to do. That means we're potentially going back to how it was in the original Ruby/Sapphire when many old Pokemon were flatout unavailable, but at least there were hardware issues preventing trading with the previous games; this time, there's no excuse.

Pokemon Bank will be supported, but it's not known yet if every Pokemon will be transferable from the get go

Dex entries will probably be there but the Pokemon themselves don't have appropriate modeling and animations. I'm willing to bet Pokemon home will just let you copy your dex.

Pokemon Home connects together Bank, GO, Let's Go, and Sword/Shield, and Pokemon can be transferred from Bank, GO, and Let's Go into Sword/Shield.

Just an educated guess, I don't see why they'd limit the transfer otherwise. They also mentioned one of the reasons they're doing this is so the wait between generations wouldn't take longer and longer (I assume implementing every single Pokmon?).

Im going to assume they just meant at first. No way are they not going to let you use your older Pokmon. There would be no point in getting a subscription for home/bank.

You CAN transfer every single one of your pokemon to Pokemon Home.

You CAN NOT transfer every single pokemon transferred to Pokemon Home into Sword and Shield. Only pokemon THAT APPEAR IN THE GALAR REGION POKEDEX can be transferred from Pokemon Home to Sword and Shield.

I can kind of understand it. As awful as gamefreak can get with their practices they're rarely as outright broken as Bethesda or Bioware. Even Pokmon LG, their worst and laziest attempt at a main series game was more polished and less of a mess than FO76, Anthem or Andromeda.

That's different. The capability to transfer was simply not available at all during the launch of X/Y and Sun/Moon, but once they came online, transferring was unrestricted. However, the ability sounds like it will be there from the start, but the fact that non-Galar Dex Pokemon can't be transferred at all and the fact that they're outright saying this may mean that those Pokemon may not be programmed into the game at all. They outright said that they will be picking Pokemon that best represent the sort of game they want to build going forward.

With updates and patches now a thing I believe eventually they will add in more pokemon. What is the point of transferring all your old pokemon to Pokemon Home if they cant enter the new game ??

Think about it, they allow transfer to the storage system but not to anything else is strange.

Nope, they specifically said this is due to a change in policy, and they plan to permanently limit the pool of pokemon in every future pokemon game

I highly doubt they will stick to this policy when people get pissed off they cant get certain pokemon into the new games.

Perhaps you were not around for the Gen 3 fuck up with a lack of connection but it did not go over well and alienated a lot of old fans.

What you describe is just another version of that where they pick and choose only certain pokemon, and no the fans will not put up with this.

Every gen still has some older Pokemon show up in the wild in the new region. The ones that do not cannot be traded in either. So something like Caterpie can be transferred, but not the various older starters or legendaries or others that don't appear in Sword/Shield.
