This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Professor Oak is fodder line, I think there's some genuine love for the character and even some low key meme strength but that won't make him Red or even Blue level

Robo is probably Mid fodder just because he has a devoted fanbase that will probably always show up for him but that really isn't much. Of the core CT cast I think Robo would be the weakest. Maybe Ayla? she has boobs and looks like a dbz.

Cappy might be high fodder because even though he's associated with the Mario franchise he's only in one game (maybe Smash? is he in there at all?) and I don't think I ever have seen anyone really attached to Cappy or say they really like him. Fuck, I might take Robo over Cappy. I don't even know if high fodder is low enough. I dunno. Ask metalmind.

Professor Oak: Low Midcarder - I think he's a notch ahead of Giovanni, for the reasons Zen mentioned. Also, Giovanni's a well-liked villain, but not truly beloved nor among the first Pokmon characters who comes to mind for most people, and his design isn't as recognizable as Oak's.

Robo: Fodder Line - I disagree with Robo being the weakest core CT cast member; if anything, he comes off as the fan favorite and most popular, when excluding Crono, Frog, and Magus. On top of that, CT's been at its strongest since before 2005 over the past five years or so.

Cappy: Mid Fodder - A cute entrant with some potential joke and meme heat, but the same thing that I've said about multiple other Mario characters goes here - people don't care one bit about him, so there's no reason to assume he'll perform. He also doesn't have the longstanding legacy of a Goomba, for example.

CT party members probably wont be too weak due to how strong their game is but Robo doesn't appear to be particularly popular among them. And in general I don't think people strongly care about those outside the top 3. Between those poll results and TJF I'd figure Ayla as the 4th strongest.

Professor Oak is a Low Midcarder for the reasons zen and metalmind stated.

Robo is High Fodder. He was 2nd to last in the polls linked ahead of Marle, and Marle did really bad in her only appearances. He is from a strong game and has some hardcore fans, but not nearly as many as Frog or Magus.

Cappy is Mid Fodder. Only in one very recent game, and he's not a character I have seen anyone talk about.
