The new mobile game from Niantic came out.

I still play a good bit of Pokemon Go and I'll be giving Wizard's Unite a shot as well now that it's out.

It has a lot of similarities, and from what I've seen some far today there are a ton of different categories and systems within which to level things up so there is a lot to do.

As far as similarities:

Instead of catching Pokemon, you have encounters where to have to nullify some chaotic magic by casting a spell. This free's the "whatever" was being affected by the chaotic magic so it returns to it's rightful place. You cast the spell by tracing a design that's different for each spell.

The "whatevers" that you rescue get broken down into a dozen different categories (magical beasts, dark arts, etc) and the more you rescue within reach category the the more that category levels up.

Instead of pokeballs you have magic energy. You expend one energy each time you attempt a spell on one of the encounters.

You regain this energy by visiting 'Inns' which are like pokestops. The Inns give you food that replenishes your magic energy and you can visit them every 5 minutes.

Instead of hatching Pokemon eggs you unlock Portkeys. I don't know what happens when you walk far enough to unlock a portkey yet, but you have an infinite use golden key or you can use finite use silver keys to unlock the Portkeys you find on the ground.

And when I say find on the ground that's exactly what I mean. There is crap scattered everywhere. You'll see random potion ingredients and Portkeys and stuff to collect scattered amongst the encounters.

I'm still not entirely sure what the gameplay loop will settle into other than clicking all the encounters you see to rescue all the things and level up the various categories, but it's early yet and some things like professions I still need to level up for

Level 7 almost 8 currently so I have a profession now which comes complete with a skill tree to increase various magical dueling stats.

Oh and if you have the space I recommend downloading all the game files from the settings. It's about 3 gigs but it's running much better on my phone as a result.

Visit the Inns and swipe them to get food.

You can also get spell energy from greenhouses when you are collecting the plants, but it isn't every time.

Ahh I've literally only played at my desk so far.

Yeah the game throws some at you at first but eventually you'll run out.

Fortunately I can reach a greenhouse from my desk so I can stay topped off. Though only like every third or fourth greenhouse harvest gives energy.

Literally live next door to a church so I've always been good on Pokeballs. Energy probably won't be a problem either.

My wife and I are gonna "hatch" a couple Portkeys later and hit up a local fortress to try a Wizard Challenge and see what that's all about.

I literally live near nothing. There's a fortress about half a mile away but it's down a ridiculously steep hill. Not worth the trek.

So the Portkeys were cool, but you need a good bit of space to make use of them. Once you open it you pick an area on the ground to deploy it, then a portal appears. You can walk through the portal into a location from the HP universe and look around and there will be a few things to click to collect while you are visiting.

Mine took me to Borgin and Burke's, and my wife's went to Hagrids Hut.

And we each did a couple of level one wizard challenges, but we couldn't figure out how to team up for the same challenge. The countdown before it starts was only like 5 seconds. We'll have to look into that more.

So I had like 3 paragraphs typed about my experience with the wizard challenges so far and they deleted, so you get this instead.

-make sure you are good on energy before starting one. You will likely have to duel several enemies and if you run out of energy then that's it.

-we were able to join the same party because there was a longer lobby before the tier 3 challenge started.

-we still don't know what affects the difficultly and enemy typing from the challenges. There's the tier of the challenge itself, the level of runestone you use to initiate it and maybe the number of people in the party? Still lots to learn.

Maybe that's what I did. I was supposed to click on five things while I was inside, and only got through one or two when it ended abruptly. It was bright outside and I couldn't see my screen really well. I'm going to stick to opening them at night time moving forward.

So far I found that everything near me that was pogo is now something in this

Bitter Root, Snowdrop, Re'em Blood

Do not discard these potion ingredients. These ingredients are used in all 3 exstimulo potions. (Makes your spells more likely to succeed at casting during traces).

Those 3 with granian hair is the level 1 exstimulo potion.

Or with Abraxan hair is the level 2

And with Unicorn is the level 3.

So at this point I'm tossing all granian hair because I don't really have the need to brew the level one potion anymore.

I'm trying to remember which supplies are for which potions so I know which ones I can toss or keep fewer of to conserve space.

For example dragon liver is only used for healing potions and it only takes one apiece so I've scaled back to only keeping 5 of those.

Stuff like that.

Hit 15 today so I can make all the potions

Some of them take a very long time so the lesson learned is to use my potions sparingly. At least most ingredients are extremely easy to come by.

And I love that you can just brew the xp potions so they are like lucky eggs that way. Sure PoGo gives you more than a few as you level up, but being able to craft your own from really available ingredients? Yes please! Only the powdered dragon claw is hard to come by, but I've been having good luck finding some in Portkeys.

Well I don't know about anyone else but I'm still enjoying myself with this game.

And the first Brilliant Event starts tomorrow so I'm anxious to see how that goes and get my hands on some restricted section books.
