For one thing, I'm guessing most people have forgotten about just how many times he shows up per game and just counted him once each. For another, Sonic's really fallen off in popularity among modern gamers, such that even people who did play enough Sonic games back in the day for Robotnik to be their answer are going to be a minority.

I honestly just forgot about Robotnik.

Unfortunately, Sonic has been bad way longer than its been good, so I try not to think about it.

Dude, I beat Ganondorf so much that he feels like my dick.

Because fewer people have played Sonic games, but also because Bowser was a recurring villain at the end of stages as well. That said, I voted M. Bison because I've certainly fought him a lot more times considering he's a fighting game villain.

Sonic 1,2,3 and Knuckles you'd face Robotnik a lot more than you'd face Bowser in Super Mario 1, 2 (completely absent), 3 (was only the last boss) and World

Not entirely sure on SM64, I have never played it.. I do know Bowser is a boss (last boss?) .. Eggman in SA is a boss several times

With the way the question was written, does it also count for going back and replaying the games? It said whole gaming career, so I would think so... And if thats true, that may coons for some of the extra Bowser votes. Though, I think there are also just more Mario games. Plus, the younger ones out there may not have played all the old Sonic games...

You have multiple Bowser fights in SM64. And if you're counting SMB1-W, you need to include the *real* SMB2 -- aka Lost Levels in the US -- which also features Bowser fights at the end of each level. And if you really want to crunch numbers, you can factor in that there are probably more Mario games than there are Sonic ones.
