The wishlist thing seems particularly scummy to me. He's already making $100,000+ a year, mostly from donations. He rarely upgrades his setup or spends much to improve his streaming capability, and he complains constantly about not being able to afford games, clearly hinting that fans should buy them for him. Basically, most of the money is going towards his bills, taxes, and day-to-day stuff, not streaming. And yet he feels he needs to be given more. His fans, who already pay for him to live well beyond his means, are expected to give him more. At least a Twitch thot tries to earn the money they are given.

Edit: I also think the Etika thing is super scummy, because there is no way someone making another person's suicide all about themselves isn't terrible.

The wishlist is more of a smokescreen. If you want to maintain the lie that you have no money, you can't just buy any game you want on a whim. He could very well fulfill some items in the list himself, this will not raise questions, since these will laregly be anonymous.

The Etika thing though... I know I shouldn't get mad, I really do, but fuck me. Phil admits he doesn't know the guy, but uses his death for 20-30 minutes to throw a pity party about himself. It's all I I I, me me me. And the fucker has the goddamn gall to monitize the video too. What an unredeemable fucking sack of shit. And it's not the first time he did this too. I just can't with this asshole.

Also, in a similar vein, Boogie2988 is doing the exact same thing. Went on twitter to show how much he donated to charity in light of Etika's death, while all tweets regaedinf the subject contains atleas 5 times and more I/me. It's disgusting as fuck.

Maybe he'll use the wishlist to buy some things for himself, but I think he's really expecting to have people buy them for him. Given how many times some whale will pop in and drop a huge tip or enough subs to hit the goal, it's not an unrealistic expectation. It's actually pretty smart (but, again, really scummy) because he's trying to fleece more money from the small group of supporters who have already shown they're willing to give him big donations, and having them pick from a wishlist will make them feel like they're helping him in an extra special way,

Back to the Etika thing, Phil needs to simply avoid talking about stuff like this. It's a delicate topic in the first place, not the kind of thing you want handled by the guy who's always talking about shitty dicks. But it's especially bad when the only way he can relate to another human being's struggle with mental illness is to whine about how mean everyone has been to him.

It really does. The one that stands out to me is Pet Words and Phrases. I know everybody has words and phrases that they favor, but Phil takes this to a ridiculous level. You can tune into any stream and hear him say the exact same things, almost like he's reading from a poorly written script. I remember thinking that it was like watching WWE commentary when they were really trying to push their new buzzwords. His vocabulary is quite limited.

I agree, if Phil is going to actually do it, it will be a one time thing, because Phil will see it get leaked regardless.

But more likely than that it will not happen, because Phil is the biggest paranoid person I know. He is already swallowing his words on almost daily basis on Twitch, deathly afraid he is going to break the ToS, so there is no way in hell he is going to do a private stream where is going unfiltered, this will only give ammo to the "detractors".

For all the shittalking he does, he is a huge pussy. He is still bitching about the Halloween stream from 8 months ago about how his chat treated Kat, even though he was well warned before that.

Beyond not doing it because of potentially getting trolled, what would he even have to offer for a private stream? It would basically be another "special event" stream, with Phil spending the entire time whining about how the trolls/YouTube/the world in general fucked him over, and the best way you can help him right now is to tip him. If Kat did appear, Phil would spend an hour rehashing how it's Tevin's fault she doesn't want to come on camera anymore. The only difference making it private would have is that he wouldn't make as much money from troll tippers.

As amusing as this little story is, there is absolutely some truth to it. Phil is doing still the exact same thing as he did a decade ago. He never actually learns a game, the mechanics, doesn't improve.

The same is with his "personal" life. It's always a financial emergency, overdrafted, taxes, etc. Never bothers to adjust his streaming schedule, the games he plays, making free time for his significant other, never makes time to finish a game.

Phil also never put any effort in the stream it self, he can't carry a conversation, never actually talks to his audience, doesn't engage them, doesn't do anything for viewer retention, doesn't acknowledge being raided, doesn't try to cultivate a bigger audience, not a single attempt to improve his "product".

Phil is still going to be doing the exact same thing down the road. For as much shit as he loves to give other streamers, at least they make an effort to engage their audience one way or another: Some people do an excellent job at explaining a game, or their thought process. Others just fuck around and want to have a laugh and are basically conversing with their chat more than they are playing a game. But all of them have a niche, they play to their strengths.

And being bad a games, can actually be a unique selling point, just engage your audience, laugh at your own fuck ups, have a good time. Pick a niche, people still know Phil best for his fighting games/gameplay, so go for that, stop dividing your audience by playing a dozen or so different games at a time.

Phil's biggest enemy has always been: himself.

I can't get past the idea that he wants all his games to be purchased for him. All the money he gets from Twitch, YouTube, and Patreon is not enough to buy games anymore. No, those have to be donated to him separately so that all the other money he is given can be put towards continuing to live beyond his means. How long before he starts adding laptops and gaming consoles to the wishlist? Maybe his fans could send him gift cards to help pay for Netflix and Hulu each month.
