There is one going on today, but it's too far away for me to get there in time. I could bid online, but I think I'll wait till the next one and actually go there in person, so I can see the cars etc.

The prices look REALLY cheap, so this may be a good way for me to get a car/van that I could travel in easily.

Main problem is I need to look up how to get there by bus etc, so I can actually drive the car back (or grab a friend to go with me and drive one of the vehicles back).

The pre-bidding prices may not reflect how much the cars eventually go for. The auction starts in about an hour, and you can watch/bid online, so I will get more of an idea how much they really go for at that point.

I'd say on average right now with pre-bids they are going for about 1/10th of what you would pay at a lot for the best deals and maybe 1/2 (or about 2k$ min) less then you would pay.

Bunch of pristine looking trucks/suvs etc going for 1k or less for instance (min price for any of em on a lot would be $5k.

Course it's as is purchases so anythign could be wrong with them. I don't think they drive them, or even let you know if it runs before you buy....so that is really risky.

My dad did. He got trucks to use on the farm that were from some marina, some dark green truck that once belonged to the highway dept. that when the paint chipped it was bright yellowish orange underneath and 3 blue cars that said "US Air Force" on the side.

The marina trucks were good, the green truck was ok but had so.e problems ( probably mostly my sister's driving) and the blue cars...one caught fire and he rolled it into a creek, the other was in a head on collision and totalled and the last....I dunno....

YEah, I talked to a few friends and they have gotten cars there, but they all say you have to go in person and check out the cars, and it's best to bring someone along who knows cars as well. Still one friend had 3 members of her family get cars that lasted for years from them at a very low price.

So I will probably go to the next one and check it out:)

They are repossed or donated from what I understand.

Mostly it's auto-dealers who go, then they jack up the price when they sell them to you.

Kinda irks me a bit since I know a place I bought my current car (Titus will) goes there and I saw other cards similar to mine being sold for under 1k, yet they sold it to me for 4k. When I wanted to trade it in they wouldn't even offer me 1k in trade in value, and now I know why.

They were like, oh, we have to inspect it and there are fees etc.

Yeah, no, the reality is, they don't want to trade it for more then they could get another one at auction, and they are just trying to make as much profit as possible.

It's more because I thought I had struck up a friendship with the buy who sold me the car lol...yeah....I'm a moron. I gave him some CDs etc and he seemed nice. I did haggle etc, but whatever, I know they gotta make a buck and the salesmen probably only get a tiny bit of the profit.

Still annoying though.
